You can turn on the radio or TV 24/7 to be preached at. This is one hour a week of the public airwaves that offers an alternative. This program is an antidote to the domination of public airwaves by the religious right.

Your humble correspondent eagerly await the nauseating and hypocritical outcry from Fox Noise and the religious right in this country which is sure to come. For to them, freedom of religion has never meant freedom from religion and certainly not from our own brand of home-grown Christianity which more and more Americans are viewing as blatantly hypocritical, judgmental and overbearing.

Clip Source: bravenewfilms.org

So said Annie Laurie Gaylor of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, as she kicked off her inaugural, one-hour weekly radio show that began broadcasting on Saturday on Air America.

Atheist Christopher Hitchens, author of the bestselling book “God Is Not Great, How Religion Poisons Everything”, was Annie Gaylor's first guest. Imagine that, true freedom of expression in America; who would have guessed it was possible.

Small wonder that atheism and agnosticism seem to be gaining some momentum among people who are tired of the hypocrisy of organized religion; you can see it in literature and a variety of public forums including the Internet, as more free-thinkers confront different religions and urge other questioning persons to come out of the shadows.

Tags: when, religion, becomes, sin

<clipSource>http://bravenewfilms.org/</clipSource>

S&M Porn Illegal-Real Life Torture-OK!

clipped by: ratilfar
clipper's remarks: But for our highest government officials, including the ones responsible for this prosecution, we have a different story altogether. In 2002, the Bush DOJ radically re-defined "torture" and illegal treatment of detainees to exclude anything that falls short of "the pain accompanying serious physical injury, such as organ failure, impairment of bodily function, or even death." The DOJ's John Yoo even decreed that the President could legally order "'scalding water, corrosive acid or caustic substance' thrown on a prisoner" and possibly even "slitting an ear, nose or lip, or disabling a tongue or limb."

Clip Source: www.salon.com

In seeking a more lenient sentence, one of Little's attorneys argued that the videos were not sadomasochistic. "Urine and vomit, our argument is, isn't sadistic or masochistic," James Benjamin said.

"What about humiliation?" the judge asked.

That, Benjamin replied, isn't in the legal definition of sadomasochistic.

"Clearly, there seemed to be pain," Bucklew said.

That was acting, Benjamin said. "The person that was involved in the conduct sat [in court] with a smile on her face and wrote your honor a letter saying, 'Judge, this was a beautiful part of my life.'"

"I don't even think this is a close call," the judge said. The videos portrayed "sadistic conduct . . . This is clearly degrading, clearly humiliating and intended to be so."

UPDATE: Put another way, top Bush administration officials have been immunized and protected despite -- according to a former U.S. Army Major General -- being responsible for real sadistic obscenities (i.e., "war crimes") as illustrated by these:

Tags: hypocrisy, law, crime, torture, stupidity, morality, police

<clipSource>http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/10/05/porn/index.html</clipSource>

Alcohol and the Hole in the Soul

clipped by: abailart

Clip Source: www.telegraph.co.uk

It is at the point of seeking help that the real struggle can begin, as Martin, an alcoholic who no longer drinks, writes. "Conquering the battle against alcohol is entirely different to winning it. Conquering is stopping drinking permanently. This leaves you in a void, a vacuum and most of the few who conquer stay there and do not move on. They remain sombre and serious and reclusive to a large extent. Why were the property rights of the German perpetrators sacrosanct and those of the guiltless Palestinians adjudged an acceptable casualty?

In U.S. foreign policy, not all racial groups are guaranteed the same rights and protections. Otherwise, why does the U.S. rightly defend Jewish people’s claims on EU bank accounts, property, and compensation for labour expropriated during the 1930s and 1940s, while quashing the rights of millions of Palestinians refugees to lands, houses, and goods stolen as a condition of Israel’s founding in the late 1940s?

As a nation we seem unconscious of the hypocrisy. Oops. Out in the expansive lot, as far as the eye could see in all directions, were gas-guzzling SUVs. One by one, I watched SUV after sportscar after SUV pulling into the lot, the drivers getting out and invariably heading over to the Gore lecture.

In fact, since it was after work hours, and since the Civic Center is in an isolated area, the only reason for anyone to be parked there was to go hear the High Priest of Global Warming™ discuss emissions.

The original pipeline partner, Unocal, was sued by EarthRights International for the use of slave labor. As soon as the suit was settled out of court, Chevron bought Unocal.

Chevron’s role in propping up the brutal regime in Burma is clear. Rice served on the Chevron board of directors for a decade. She even had a Chevron oil tanker named after her. While she served on the board, Chevron was sued for involvement in the killing of nonviolent protesters in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Like the Burmese, Nigerians suffer political repression and pollution where oil and gas are extracted and they live in dire poverty. The protests in Burma were actually triggered by a government-imposed increase in fuel prices.

Clip Source: www.zmag.org

The Bush administration is making headlines with its strong language against the Burmese regime. Jerry Falwell, one of the most despicable abusers of the teachings of Jesus and the earnest faith of religious Christians, a foul, mean-spirited power hungry neanderthal who sought to set back civilization has been called to meet his maker. I have no doubt, he will join the other racists, bigots, homophobes, war mongers, greedy money-grubbing corporatists and holy rolling religious hypocrites he supported, encouraged and empowered.

Falwell made his infamous, and perhaps signature statement after 9/11 on the 700 club, saying, "the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians," as well as liberal advocacy groups were to blame for the attacks, according to Fox news. He later made a weak, non-specific apology. This statement could well be the quote that he is (and should be remembered by.

Tags: bush, politics, religion, hypocrisy

<clipSource>http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_rob_kall_070515_god_to_dead_jerry_fa.htm</clipSource>

Nuclear Egypt. Most remained pathetically unfulfilled and dependent on the childless Simone, who perversely referred to them as her 'family'.

...

Sartre had always said the best way to learn about a country was to sleep with its women.

Clip Source: www.dailymail.co.uk

Their legendary love pact - they never married but swore mutual devotion to each other with the freedom to have affairs - was an attempt to overthrow the stifling hypocrisy that, for so long, had dictated most people's lives.

Yet a fascinating new book paints this supposedly high-minded duo as serial seducers bent on their own gratification and as a couple who used their apparently lofty philosophy as a springboard to excuse their multiple liaisons, often with under-age teenagers who were broken by the experience.

And while Simone de Beauvoir preached her ideal of feminist independence and equality, eschewing such 'bourgeois' concepts as marriage and children, and claiming women should behave just like men, the truth is such a lifestyle made her bitterly unhappy and she became obsessively jealous over Sartre's countless conquests.

In this sordid relationship of supposed equals, he was always one step ahead of her - though it didn't start that way.
