The Bird’s Nest will be used for major international events, concerts and domestic soccer matches.

The Water Cube aquatic center was built to a sensible size, and will mainly be used for international diving competitions and exhibitions. Diving’s popularity in China should ensure that it is often filled to near capacity.

The luminescent light show on the glowing exterior of the stadium will be turned off soon after the Games, but will be put back on whenever there is a major event taking place in Beijing.

Whereas the list of Athens’ failures goes on, so too does the depth of Beijing’s successes.

The Games have sparked economic growth, and experts predict a continued surge in tourism as many fans who traveled to the Olympics are expected to return for a second look.

State Treasuries across the country are holding citizens' lost money from abandoned financial assets and ironically, the multitudes of unclaimed money owners are too caught up in the daily grind trying to earn more cash just to keep their pile of bills manageable.

Right now there's roughly $33 billion national unclaimed money spread-out across the country sitting in the Treasury Department of each state. These belong to residents of the 50 States who have lost track of their financial assets and may not even be aware they have missing money in the government's hands. Lost assets like uncashed checks, long-idle bank accounts, stocks and bonds whose owners may have lost track of their finances- these and other financial assets are required by law to be turned-over to their respective States after showing a period of inactivity.

Sometimes we get so busy in our lives looking for that 'something' that will make it all worthwhile. After announcing Wednesday that it will be getting $1.8 billion from MasterCard Inc. in settlement of an antitrust suit, the credit card lender -- known for catering to jet-setters and the well-heeled -- revealed that it has again underestimated how quickly its cardholders are falling behind on their debt.

"Business conditions continue to weaken in the U.S. and so far this month we have seen credit indicators deteriorate beyond our expectations," said AmEx Chief Executive Kenneth Chenault in a statement.

The rocky consumer climate comes amid a tough legal period for credit card companies, which are battling among themselves and with federal authorities around the world over various rules and fees. Wednesday's settlement was seen by industry experts as positive for both companies -- mainly because the $1.8 billion figure was close to expectations, and because the two companies can now put the litigation behind them.

Taking shelter with parents isn't uncommon for young people in their 20s, especially when the job market is poor. But now the slumping economy and the credit crunch are forcing some children to do so later in life — even in middle age.

Kim Foss Erickson, a financial planner in Roseville, Calif., north of Sacramento, said she has never seen older children, even those in their 50s, depending so much on their parents as in the last six months.

"I've had people say to me, 'Oh God, I could never do that,'" she said. "But you take humble steps in order to move forward."
