Six years ago, on June 24th, 2002, President Bush turned American policy in the Middle East in a new direction. In a groundbreaking speech, he announced that the U.S. would support the creation of a Palestinian state. His only condition was that Palestinians first choose "leaders not compromised by terror." He asked also that they "confront corruption," and "build a practicing democracy based on tolerance and liberty."

But it was more power that Hamas' leaders coveted so, in 2007, they launched a wave of violence against rival Fatah security forces. Since then, Hamas has been unchallenged inside Gaza and no one talks of new elections or civil rights.

Nor has Hamas attempted to build an economic base. Instead, it turned to Iran's rulers for money and guidance - and then complained that Palestinians were living in squalor because they weren't receiving sufficient funds from the U.S. and Europe.

Jefferson Accused of Two More Schemes

Federal prosecutors on Friday accused Rep. William J. Jefferson (D-La.) of soliciting bribes in two alleged schemes that had not been previously disclosed.

The allegations, detailed in a seven-page document filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, will not result in new charges, prosecutors said, but they plan to present them during Jefferson's federal bribery trial as evidence of a pattern of intentional wrongdoing.

In 2002, the government alleges, Jefferson asked a lobbyist of a U.S. oil service company for $10,000 a month for a family member in exchange for Jefferson's assisting the company in promoting business in Africa. The lobbyist turned down Jefferson's request

a federal grand jury indicted Jefferson,

on charges that he used his official position to solicit hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes for himself and his family, falsely reported trips to Africa as official business and sought to bribe the former Nigerian vice president.

Today, in New York Supreme Court, in response to Dan Rather's civil lawsuit, CBS filed a lengthy 30-page motion to dismiss the case.

"Dan Rather is one of the most important figures in the history of broadcast journalism, and for more than 40 years was one of our most valued colleagues," CBS said in the statement. "That is why we at CBS are mystified and saddened by the baseless and self-serving allegations and distortions of fact raised in his lawsuit."

"This lawsuit is a regrettable attempt by plaintiff Dan Rather to remain in the public eye, and to settle old scores and perceived slights, based on an array of far-fetched allegations,"

Mrs. Clinton's campaign is suspect due to the recent revelations with Mr. Hua (sp), her husband's past suspicious connections with Chinese donations, the sheer amount of dollars in her treasure chest.

I just wish the *journalists* would investigate campaign corruption as aggressively as they did Florida's ballots and voting machines in 2000.

Sandy Berger was a failure as national-security adviser. Then he became a criminal. As Americans contemplate making Hillary their president, they would be wise to consider the company she keeps.

clipper's remarks: Amazing! Though not so surprising. These people have no shame. Any Republican involved in *unusual* sex is tarred & feathered. They are accused of 'phony' slander and denounced on the Senate floor. They have a memory lapse and are convicted of perjury. Yet, Mr. Berger gets a slap on the wrist for stealing classified information and then lying about it. But he only has to bide his time and wait for the Clintons to call and he's back at their political and corrupted money trough.

Any American, Rep. or Dem., should be appaulled that a convicted National Security chief would be hired to work for and advise a potential President of the United States.

He’s back: Sandy Berger now advising Hillary Clinton

Sandy Berger, who stole highly classified terrorism documents from the National Archives, destroyed them and lied to investigators, is now an adviser to presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Berger, who was fired from John Kerry’s presidential campaign when the scandal broke in 2004, has assumed a similar role in Clinton’s campaign, even though his security clearance has been suspended until September 2008.

“It shows poor judgment and a lack of regard for Berger’s serious misdeeds,” said law professor Jonathan Adler

it is “simply incomprehensible to me that a serious contender for the presidency would rely upon him as a key foreign policy advisor.”

At such a point, continuing to keep Berger on board as a key advisor, where he might have access to sensitive material, would be beyond incomprehensible.”

'Political meddling' ruining learning in schools

The curriculum in state schools in England has been stripped of its content and corrupted by political interference, according to a damning report by an influential, independent think-tank.

It warns of the educational apartheid opening up between the experience of pupils in the state sector and those at independent schools, which have refused to reduce academic content to make way for fashionable causes.

"The traditional subject areas have been hijacked to promote fashionable causes such as gender awareness, the environment and anti-racism, while teachers are expected to help to achieve the Government's social goals instead of imparting a body of academic knowledge to their students," it says.

The report, The Corruption of the Curriculum, comes as the General Teaching Council, representing the teaching profession in England, calls for the scrapping of all national curriculum tests.

The only problem here is that there was no underlying crime. The answer to the question Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was initially appointed to investigate — had anyone violated the law in disclosing Ms. Plame's name in their effort to discredit her husband's criticism of the administration's war policy — was no.

I suppose I should be pleased about the tough sentence handed down by Judge Reggie Walton, sentencing the vice president's former Chief of Staff Scooter Libby to serve 30 months in prison. After all, he's a Republican, and I'm a Democrat; I'm an opponent of the war, and he worked for one of its architects. I'm certainly no fan of his boss, Dick Cheney, one of the toughest hardball players to occupy the office of vice president.

There is something troubling about prosecutors using perjury and obstruction of justice to turn into criminals people who haven't committed any other crime.

Sandy Berger and the Clinton Cover-Up

On May 17th, Sandy Berger, President Bill Clinton's National Security Adviser, voluntarily gave up his law license and with it the right to practice law. That is a stunning move for an accomplished lawyer, one of the nation's most influential public officials. Someone should take note.

In addition to primary documents, Berger had access to copies, and the only plausible reason for taking five copies of a single memo is that some had original notes on them from key officials, maybe from Berger or President Clinton.

The story doesn't interest the Democrats in Congress, who prefer spending time investigating why eight political-level appointees were fired

Maybe if this story involved a Karl instead of a Sandy . . .

Knowing what information Berger destroyed also might alter views of the current Bush Administration.

May 27, 2007 -- It now looks like the American people will never learn how - and why - Bill Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy "Sticky Fingers" Berger, stole and destroyed classified documents from the National Archives.

That's because Berger - in a significant, but little-noticed, move - has short-circuited the last investigation into his sordid little burglary.

As Byron York reports at National Review Online, Berger last week voluntarily surrendered his law license.

What it does, however, is prematurely end an investigation by the District of Columbia Bar Association into Berger's confessed thievery. It also means that details of the probe, which would have been made public, now remain sealed.

Sandy Berger Forfeits Law License

Former Clinton National Security Advisory Sandy Berger gave up his law license and likely will never practice law again.

Facing the prospect of an embarrassing cross-examination by the District of Columbia Board on Bar Counsel related to his theft of classified documents from the National Archives, Berger forfeited his law license on May 17. The Washington Times broke the story.

In April 2005, Berger pled guilty in federal court to stealing classified documents from the National Archives, destroying some of those documents, and lying to federal investigators.

Why would Berger take such a huge personal and professional risk? Apparently, the stolen documents included a highly secret memorandum (possibly with handwritten notes) that was allegedly critical of the Clinton administration's response to the "Millennium 2000" terror plot to bomb the Los Angeles International Airport.
