"Even if you're not a genius, you can use the same
strategies as Aristotle and Einstein to harness the power of your creative

                productively,
rather than reproductively, in order to arrive at solutions
to problems. "These strategies are common to the thinking styles of
creative geniuses in science, art, and industry throughout history."

1. Look at problems in many different ways, and
find new perspectives that no one else has taken (or no one else has
                publicized!)

2. A distinguishing characteristic of
                genius is productivity.

4. Make novel combinations. Combine, and
recombine, ideas, images, and thoughts into different combinations no
                matter how incongruent or unusual.

5. Form relationships; make connections between
                dissimilar subjects.

6. Think in opposites.

7. Dry skin conditions, including eczema and even psoriasis, benefit from this added moisturisation too, but also from the fact that a Vaseline barrier reduces the penetration of irritants. "Eczema is probably caused by allergy-causing molecules getting into the skin," says Prof Hawk. "Any occlusive moisturiser would help to prevent this, but Vaseline is more bland than most, there are no perfumes or colourants, so it is less likely to cause irritation."

Clip Source: www.telegraph.co.uk

A cure for all your ills?

Last month, a reader wrote to our GP columnist Dr James Le Fanu to report the "miraculous" healing properties of Vaseline.

She had repeatedly applied a coat of the bathroom cabinet staple to two troublesome scars on her leg, which quickly disappeared, and then to a mole on her face that subsequently "dropped off".

A week after her letter was published, The Daily Telegraph mail bag was bulging with letters singing the praises of petroleum jelly for the treatment of everything from nappy rash and chapped lips to psoriasis and piles. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.

2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.

3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.

4. Every sentence must do one of two things -- reveal character or advance the action.

5. Start as close to the end as possible.

6. Be a sadist. Now matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them -- in order that the reader may see what they are made of.

7. Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.

8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To heck with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.
  -- Kurt Vonnegut

Tags: writing

<clipSource>http://www.janeespenson.com/archives/00000336.php</clipSource>

Learn Out Loud

clipped by: thisnamecantbetaken
clipper's remarks: This site is fabulous and one of my favourites. A great example of a functional and fun presence of a web site & community in Second Life. If you are interested, read the whole review on my blog.

Clip Source: omega.wordpress.com

without a long introductory paragraph, I’d like to cut it short: If you are into the wonderful world of “podcasting” and are also a Second Life resident, you must visit Podcast Island. Go there and as soon as you step on the landing point, you’ll clearly understand what I mean. I bet you’ll spend long hours there on your first trip and won’t even think of leaving there to go elsewhere. This is what I call “falling in love with an island” in SL.

Podcast Island, by far, is the best example of the “SL Presence” of a popular web site / community. It’s almost exactly what I dreamt of for Clipmarks a few months ago: Carrying the web content elegantly to the SL metaverse; creating a comfortable meeting place for its users/members with so many fun things and possibilities; finally to attract SL folks to the web site and the content that is provided there. A two-way working great project. Congrats and kudos go to Podcast Pickle and his colleagues there, who created this awesome island.

Tags: second life, podcast island, podcasting, virtual places, radio, broadcast, free radio

<clipSource>http://omega.wordpress.com/2007/03/31/a-podcast-paradise-at-second-life/</clipSource>

When letting go is the only way to live...

clipped by: mugofcoffee
clipper's remarks: When we have let go of our fear and doubt; when we have left behind the idea of perfection; when have come into the knowledge that we are powerful and given up our weakness, then and only then can we create the beauty we see....

Clip Source: www.alchemyofacting.com

When Letting Go Is the Only Way to Live

You’re represented by a computer-generated character (an avatar) that can walk around, fly, teleport, or exchange typed comments with other people’s characters. You can make yourself young and beautiful, equip yourself with fancy clothes, build a dream house by the water, or make the sun set on command. The average member spends four hours a day in Second Life.

One thing that makes Second Life different from other online 3-D games is its economy. People make stuff and sell it to each other: clothes, rockets, cars, new hairstyles. Second Life itself is free, but members nonetheless pay real money—$220 million a year—to buy these imaginary accessories.

Tags: second life, virtual life, games, virtualization

<clipSource>http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/02/22/an-experiment-in-virtual-living/</clipSource>
