This new product has so far won 16 different awards and recommendations from software download sites. Some of them even emailed me messages of encouragement such as “Great job, we’re really impressed!”. I should be delighted at this recognition of the quality of my software, except that the ’software’ doesn’t even run. This is hardly surprising when you consider that it is just a text file with the words “this program does nothing at all” repeated a few times and then renamed as an .exe. The PAD file that described the software contains the description “This program does nothing at all”. The screenshot I submitted (below) was similarly blunt and to the point:

<clipSource>http://successfulsoftware.net/2007/08/16/the-software-awards-scam/</clipSource>

ecocho search & We grow trees tell a friend

clipped by: hotdoge3
clipper's remarks: new search engine that fights climate change.

Clip Source: www.ecocho.co.nz

The world’s first ‘green’ search engine that offsets carbon emissions with no cost to the user, has launched in New Zealand.

ecocho.co.nz is a site that generates positive environmental gains by sponsoring the growth of up to two trees for every 1000 searches users make using the search engines Yahoo! and Google. A worldwide version is available at www.ecocho.com and an Australian version is available at www.ecocho.com.au.

The site uses custom Google and Yahoo! searches as the foundation for its branded service, and uses the income from advertising to plant trees.

Founder of ecocho, Tim Macdonald said, “In New Zealand alone, web users conduct close to 120 million Internet searches each month, and if we could capture just one per cent of that traffic, we would make a significant contribution towards lowering the impact of harmful greenhouse gas emissions”.

<clipSource>http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=7711</clipSource>
