World’s largest LED Chandelier – Amazing feat in geeky paradise

As the entire lighting industry is going green with low energy LEDs, it was just a matter of time before the LEDs invaded the chandelier space and invaded, it certainly has by powering the world’s largest chandelier. This chandelier made by the Meyda Tiffany chandelier company now adorns the Stanley theatre in Utica New York. This chandelier uses 328 LEDs manufactured by Philips Luxeon uses just 1120 watts of electricity, and to give you a perspective of how efficient this chandelier really is, how about it being almost seven times more efficient than conventional light bulbs.

That is definitely one very beautiful yet eco friendly green chandelier, all courtesy the revolutionary LED’s. Take a tour of more images after jump.

Visit the skeletal remains of a cold war weapon

This presentation will take you on a full tour of a decommissioned, abandoned underground missile complex. The site was opened many years ago by explorers and vandals, and in fact the technology therein was nearly obsolete by the time the bases were completed in 1963, so there's little "secret" about it beyond the location of these sites, which we will not reveal here.

The stairs do continue down, but disappear into the water just beneath the main level.

Here we see the heavy steel blast doors for the main entrance at the bottom of the shaft. The doors are about a foot thick. Heavy grafitti and vandalism mars the whole complex. Looking up, you can see the heavy doors at the top of the shaft.

Saving Energy in your home is not a sacrifice

Many people think of a home that uses 90% less energy and 50% less water will look like a science experiment. This is simply not the case; the home in this video looks like a regular home and uses very little energy or water. All the 'technology' is old technology and creates very little footprint on the livingspace.

Polaroid stops manufacturing ....

Polaroid is going to stop manufacturing film for their instant cameras, which they stopped making a year ago.

The company, which stopped making instant cameras for consumers a year ago and for commercial use a year before that, said today that as soon as it had enough instant film manufactured to last it through 2009, it would stop making that, too. Three plants that make large-format instant film will close by the end of the quarter, and two that make consumer film packets will be shut by the end of the year, Bloomberg News reports.

Hopefully someone else will pick up where they left off; Polaroid is willing to license the manufacturing technology to other companies. (via clusterflock)
