Thoughts on the American empire

Is it an empire?

Whenever I say that America has become an empire, someone is sure to say I'm being ridiculous.

But what do you call a government that has tried (usually successfully) to force "regime changes" in Panama, Grenada, South Vietnam, Cuba, Guatemala, Chile, Rhodesia, South Africa, Iraq (in 1963), the Philippines, Serbia, Afghanistan (twice), Iran and several other countries that don't immediately come to mind?

What do you call a government whose leader says everyone must play by his rules or risk being attacked?

World government

America rules the world - by force.

And that's ironic. Because for as long as I can remember, conservatives have been railing against the threat of world government.

But now we actually have a form of world government - a government run by George Bush and enforced by the American military - and most conservatives are all for it.

If you ask

foreigners, they make it clear that it's America's bullying foreign policy they detest.

I think Hillary forgot this wasn’t a campaign speech for 2012.

Ignoring ideological content for a moment, Hillary hit all the right notes on Barack Obama and unity. But the impression she transmitted through her tone and body language was somewhat uninspired. The content was politically unhelpful and humdrum. The few times she appeared genuinely enthused were self-involved and self-congratulatory moments.

It’s as if someone had haphazardly penciled the name “Barack Obama” into a speech that was initially a recitation of Hillary’s astonishing and unparalleled accomplishments (and sporadically Bill’s, which she seemed to take credit for, as well.)

It’ll be interesting to see polling on the attitude of Hillary supporters now.

Get a toilet paper tube and crease two lines to form a flat sided tunnel.

Put a treat on one end of the tube: A cracker and dab of peanut butter works great.

Get a tall (at least 20 inches) bucket. A trash can works well.

Balance the tube precariously on the edge of a table or counter with the treat hanging directly over the tall sided receptacle.

The mouse will scurry to the treat (they like tunnels) and fall into the trap.

Set the fella loose at least a mile away from your abode.

Also, folks have asked how this could work if you don't have a counter or table. Simple: get a piece of cardboard and crease it to make a ramp up to a small trashcan.

Shameful diploma scam

No explanation, no excuse, no logical reason can be found to even attempt to justify what has happened in the Freehold Regional School District where top school officials got degrees from a university that has been described as a "diploma mill."

Adding insult to injury, the officials were reimbursed with taxpayer money for the tuition and then given higher salaries because they obtained advanced degrees.

What superintendent H. James Wasser, assistant superintendent Donna Evangelista and retired assistant superintendent Frank Tanzini did was an absolute ripoff of the district. At least one member of the school board is asking them to return the money.

The Freehold district paid $8,700 in tuition for the educators and gave each of them $2,500 annual raises based on their having obtained doctoral degrees.
