djkraz
clipper's remarks: This has to be one of the best i've seen of this type of technology. Most of the time they are limited to 1 or maybe 2 effects. This one has many many effects. The best part is that it not only tracks motion but also distance from the wall. Very very nicely done!

Clip Source: blog.makezine.com

This is a project I worked on with Marc-André Baril while I was at Moment Factory. They created an interactive wall for the tourist information office, La Vitrine in Montreal.

The installation includes tracking devices and low-resolution LED displays and is capable of showing many different visualizations based on the presence and movement of people.

Visitors can interact with the installation every night from 7 PM to 11 PM. Not only the music is amazing, but the same can be said of the animations by Leiji Matsumoto. Put them together and you end up with this: a masterpiece.

From the source:

Interstella 5555 is a feature-length Japanese animated musical film originally released on December 1, 2003. The film is the visual realization of Discovery, an album by Daft Punk. Each track from the album has been animated as an episode in the story of the abduction and rescue of an interstellar pop band. The film was produced by the creators of the Discovery album, along with Toei Animation, under the supervision of Leiji Matsumoto. The film has no dialogue and minimal sound effects.
Music list

1 "One More Time"
2 "Aerodynamic"
3 "Digital Love"
4 "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger"
5 "Crescendolls"
6 "Nightvision"
7 "Superheroes"
8 "High Life"
9 "Something About Us"
10 "Voyager"
11 "Veridis Quo"
12 "Short Circuit"
13 "Face To Face"

Clip Source: www.youtube.com

Tags: daft punk, discovery, interstella, matsumoto, video

<clipSource>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ5XOwiryv0</clipSource>

The Colours Of Mark Mawson

clipped by: JohnWaterman

Clip Source: www.behance.net

Clip Source: www.colourlovers.com

I was originally attracted to Mark's work because of the abstract, color rich photos from his Aqueous series, which I saw on today and tomorrow a little while back. style="padding: 10px;">

Houdon's portrayal of Winter departs starkly from the usual allegorical representation of the season, typically depicted as a hoary old man. The naturalistic pose of the shivering, bare-bottomed girl, whose only covering is a shawl wrapped around her upper body, generates an empathy not evoked by more traditional versions. The figure's narrative aspect inspired its alternate title—"The Shivering Girl"—already current at the time of its initial presentation.

Clip Source: www.metmuseum.org

Artist Index: Houdon, Jean–Antoine (French, 1741–1828)

The issue isn't just explaining why almost all plants and animals engage in sex. It is also explaining why the life forms that ruled the planet for billions of years and remain by far the most abundant - the bacteria - manage fine without it.

Tags: sex, biology, evolution

<clipSource>http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20227121.600-has-the-mystery-of-sex-been-explained-at-last.html?page=1</clipSource>

Stair Porn

clipped by: JohnWaterman

Clip Source: www.stairporn.org

Clip Source: www.stairporn.org

We're unable to read our own body language

It's as if we have an egocentric blind spot. Outside observers, by contrast, can watch the same video and make revealing insights into our personality.

The premise of the new study is the tip-of-the-iceberg idea that what we know about ourselves is fairly limited, with many of our impulses, traits and beliefs residing below the level of conscious access. The researchers wondered whether people would be able to form a truer picture of themselves when presented with a video of their own body language

Why can't we use a video of ourselves to improve the accuracy of our self-perception?

One answer could lie in cognitive dissonance - the need for us to hold consistent beliefs about ourselves. People may well be extremely reluctant to revise their self-perceptions, even in the face of powerful objective evidence

<clipSource>http://bps-research-digest.blogspot.com/2009/06/were-unable-to-read-our-own-body.html</clipSource>

Stop by if you'd like a hug (now with bonus compliment)

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: I'm giving out hugs all day long.
The lonely
stand in dark corners

of their hearts.

I have seen them
in cities,

and in my own neighborhood,

nor could I touch them
with the magic

that they crave

to be unbroken.
Then, I myself,

lonely,

said hello to
good fortune.

Someone

came along
and lingered

and little by little

became everything
that makes a difference.

Oh, I wish such good luck

to everyone.
How beautiful it is
to be unbroken.

-Mary Oliver

Tags: to everyone

<clipSource>http://www.37days.com/2009/05/come-over-the-rainbow-with-me-just-for-a-moment.html</clipSource>

your possible life

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: Of course it was a disaster.

Clip Source: www.37days.com

Going There

-Jack Gilbert

Of course it was a disaster.
The unbearable, dearest secret
has always been a disaster.
The danger when we try to leave.
Going over and over afterward
what we should have done
instead of what we did.
But for those short times
we seemed to be alive.
