This is a project I worked on with Marc-André Baril while I was at Moment Factory. They created an interactive wall for the tourist information office, La Vitrine in Montreal.

The installation includes tracking devices and low-resolution LED displays and is capable of showing many different visualizations based on the presence and movement of people.

Visitors can interact with the installation every night from 7 PM to 11 PM. La Vitrine, 145, rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, Montréal

Interstella 5555 is a feature-length Japanese animated musical film originally released on December 1, 2003. The film is the visual realization of Discovery, an album by Daft Punk. Each track from the album has been animated as an episode in the story of the abduction and rescue of an interstellar pop band. The film was produced by the creators of the Discovery album, along with Toei Animation, under the supervision of Leiji Matsumoto. The film has no dialogue and minimal sound effects.

I was originally attracted to Mark's work because of the abstract, color rich photos from his Aqueous series, which I saw on today and tomorrow a little while back. After looking through Mark's portfolio a bit more, I found quite a few photos with inspiring color compositions from his series Urban Nights and Bus Graveyard as well.

Houdon's portrayal of Winter departs starkly from the usual allegorical representation of the season, typically depicted as a hoary old man. The naturalistic pose of the shivering, bare-bottomed girl, whose only covering is a shawl wrapped around her upper body, generates an empathy not evoked by more traditional versions. The figure's narrative aspect inspired its alternate title—"The Shivering Girl"—already current at the time of its initial presentation.

SEX is the ultimate absurdity. Forget the hormonal rushes, the sweat and the contorted posturing. Forget about the heartache, the flowers, the bad poems and the costly divorce, just think about the biology. It's nuts. Cloning makes far more sense.

A clone, after all, just quietly gets on with copying itself. And since every clone can produce more clones, cloning produces far more offspring. There is no need for males - a waste of space, as hard-line feminists and evolutionists agree.

All this made sex the "queen of evolutionary problems" in the 20th century, taxing some of the finest minds in biology. The issue isn't just explaining why almost all plants and animals engage in sex. It is also explaining why the life forms that ruled the planet for billions of years and remain by far the most abundant - the bacteria - manage fine without it.

A fascinating study has shown that we're unable to read insights into ourselves from watching a video of our own body language. It's as if we have an egocentric blind spot. Outside observers, by contrast, can watch the same video and make revealing insights into our personality.

The premise of the new study is the tip-of-the-iceberg idea that what we know about ourselves is fairly limited, with many of our impulses, traits and beliefs residing below the level of conscious access. The researchers wondered whether people would be able to form a truer picture of themselves when presented with a video of their own body language

Why can't we use a video of ourselves to improve the accuracy of our self-perception?

One answer could lie in cognitive dissonance - the need for us to hold consistent beliefs about ourselves. People may well be extremely reluctant to revise their self-perceptions, even in the face of powerful objective evidence
