This isn't your typical middle school mealtime melee. Stefan Nadelman's Food Fight is a short film that uses stop motion animation and food—a whole lotta food—to portray the last 60 years of global armed conflict.

Food Fight is an abridged history of war, from World War II to present day, told through the foods of the countries in conflict. Watch as traditional comestibles slug it out for world domination in this chronologically re-enacted smorgasbord of aggression.

I had a blast trying to figure out the symbolism, some of which is more obvious than others. If you don't have the patience to keep up with the mass of meaty metaphors, a cheat sheet is available to help you identify the tasty cast members. (Hint: the heaps of beef stroganoff represent the succulent Soviets.)

Vanity Fair's Incredible Alfred Hitchcock Tribute

The latest issue of Vanity Fair did a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock by bringing in Hollywood's biggest stars to pose for famous shots from the director's greatest movies. Some of these movies include "Vertigo" and "North by Northwest," and while they are simply amazing, it would have been nice to see Naomi Watts in "The Birds" shot since she is currently rumored to star in the remake. In addition, the magazine has posted a behind the scenes look at the making of these great photos.

As Chancellor Gorkon from Star Trek VI would say, "You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon." We'd reply by telling him that unless he'd seen Star Wars in the original Russian folk art version, he was a pansy. Russian artist Andrey Kuznetsov has created some pretty impressive versions of films like The Matrix, The Terminator (or maybe that's T2: Judgement Day), Star Wars, Spider-Man, War of the Worlds, and others using the traditional style of Russian folk art. We've been able to decipher most of them from the original page, but we can't figure out for the life of us what this piece is supposed to represent with the guy using a computer and sticking a knife (or is that a USB drive?) in his butt. Perfume, the film released this week adapted from the novel by Patrick Suskind, follows a murderer, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, who has no odour but possesses an unparalleled, acute sense of smell which he uses in his pursuit of power.

Recovery depends on the cause

It is a story of 18th Century life in France, told in all its stinking glory, through repeated reference to smells - people's odours, street filth, country air, food and musky scents. A time and a world away from life for the 2% of people that researchers say lack the olfactory sense.

The causes range from severe head injuries, to viruses and nasal congestion conditions, to degenerative diseases including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Some suffer from anosmia, which means no sense of smell; hyposmia is a decreased ability; and dysosmia is when things smell differently than they should.

Our sense of smell is an underestimated life sense (albeit the basis of a hugely profitable perfume industry).

We use it to detect chemicals in the air, and its receptors contribute to our ability to distinguish flavour - those unable to smell have very little sense of taste. It plays a role in mental and physical health, emotion, sex and relationships. It helps people guard against bad or off food, and helps warn against dangerous situations.

When sight or hearing go, it is immediately obvious. With smell, its absence can take longer to sink in. Robert's went because of nasal polyps - protrusions that blocked the inside of his nose - cutting him off from the kind of world Suskind's anti-hero occupies.

Apart from the most serious practical effect - exposing him to danger - eating has lost its sensual pleasure. And, a keen gardener, he can no longer smell the roses.

Can you guess the other 3 without looking? Do you have some better suggestions?

What makes a great movie monologue? Even more to the point, what qualifies as a monologue? Hamlet's soliloquy would certainly make the cut, but its origins didn't spring from film, so it's probably ineligible. Does a speech have to be a certain length to qualify as a monologue? Can it be addressed to someone who reacts or occasionally interjects something in the middle of the display?

1. "Of course it's a friendly call." Bob Newhart made his comic reputation with his hilarious phone call routines, but none come close to touching the brilliance of Peter Sellers' President Merkin Muffley in Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb calling to tell the unseen Soviet premier Dmitri that some nukes have been sent toward his country by an insane American general. The movie almost consists of one gut-busting comic sequence after another, but Muffley's phone call could be the film's comic highlight and certainly belongs in the top tier of the great movie monologues.

2. "You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale." You could really make a 5 for a Day (or even more) list of monologues entirely from Paddy Chayefsky script for his ever-more prophetic Network. Much of the movie consists of monologues -- from Peter Finch's much-lauded "mad as hell" speech to his less-often cited tale of a voice speaking to him in the night. William Holden gets his great exit slam on Faye Dunaway's Diana Christensen. Hell, Beatrice Straight won an Oscar for a monologue that is practically her entire appearance in the film, reacting to the news that Holden is leaving her. Still, for the purposes of this post, I'm going with Ned Beatty's great screed as Arthur Jensen (another essentially single-scene part that got an Oscar nomination) selling unhinged anchor Howard Beale on the pre-eminence of corporations over countries in this day and age -- a sentiment that seems even more true now than it did 30 years ago.

hen Superman debuted in 1978, it invented a whole new movie genre—and a new kind of cinematic magic. Today, hundreds of millions of dollars depend on the heroic box-office performances of costumed crusaders whom Hollywood once thought worthy only of kiddie serials or campy parodies. The two Spider-Man movies rank among the top ten of all time for gross domestic receipts, and X-Men: The Last Stand and Superman Returns are among this year’s biggest hits.

Superhero comics have been around since Irving Thalberg and Louis B. Mayer ruled the back lot, but only recently has Hollywood realized the natural connection between superhero comics and movies. It’s not just that both are simultaneously visual and verbal media; that formal connection would apply equally to the “serious” graphic novels and sequential art that want nothing to do with crime fighters in form- fitting outfits. Cinema isn’t just a good medium for translating graphic novels. It’s specifically a good medium for superheroes. On a fundamental, emotional level, superheroes, whether in print or on film, serve the same function for their audience as Golden Age movie stars did for theirs: they create glamour.

If that sounds crazy, it’s because we tend to forget what glamour is really about. Glamour isn’t beauty or luxury; those are only specific manifestations for specific audiences. Glamour is an imaginative process that creates a specific, emotional response: a sharp mixture of projection, longing, admiration, and aspiration. It evokes an audience’s hopes and dreams and makes them seem attainable, all the while maintaining enough distance to sustain the fantasy. The elements that create glamour are not specific styles—bias-cut gowns or lacquered furniture—but more general qualities: grace, mystery, transcendence. To the right audience, Halle Berry is more glamorous commanding the elements as Storm in the X-Men movies than she is walking the red carpet in a designer gown.

Creepy eBay auction

The Fembot of Jessica Kensington from the motion picture, Austin Powers 2, "The Spy Who Shagged Me". This silicon puppet weighs approximately 30lbs and is the original that was used in the movie. All silicon skin with a fiberglass plastic shell interior for the face. Face is wired with lights inside the eyes and mouth area. Works with a 9 volt battery. Punched hair. Also, there are holes where the nipples would be. This is where the special FX dept rigged gun barrels to pop out and shoot blanks. This prop does not include gun barrels or any equipment used on that effect. But it would be a simple task to rig fake ones as seen in the shot. This prop has been packed and stored since it's debut and is in mint condition. Originally cost over $20,000 to make.

Comes with: Original dress used in the movie, Pull off silicon mask, and Black round wooden base with speedrail stand.
