This Nendo-designed office space in Tokyo is divided by a series of low-dipping partitions you have to step over...like you're in a submarine. Was it designed for flooding? To stymie Roombas? Prevent rollerblading? According to the designers,

We wanted the usual spaces and functions--meeting space, management, workspace and storage--to be separate, but also to maintain a sense of connection between them.

To achieve this effect, we divided the space with walls that seem to sag and flop like a piece of cloth held up between two hands, enclosing the various spaces more than the usual office dividers, but less than actual walls.

Employees can move between spaces by walking over the parts of the walls that "sag" the most, thus emphasizing the contrast between the uses of the different spaces.

Perhaps it was also intended to weed out potentially clumsy employees: if you trip during the job interview, "We'll keep your resume on file."

Lego fan marks 50th anniversary

A Teesside man who claims to have the biggest collection of Lego in the country has marked the iconic brick's 50th anniversary.

Phil Traviss, from Yarm, has more than 500,000 coloured bricks and has been collecting the pieces for 25 years.

The 50-year-old said he has spent tens of thousands of pounds on his haul which takes up most of his home.

In January 1958, Lego's Danish founder Ole Kirk Christansen secured the patent for the modern day brick design.

The toy has gone onto to become one of the biggest sellers in history.

Mr Traviss said: "Like most kids I was given a few sets of Lego but when I got to 25 I had the urge to build a collection.

"The 50th anniversary is a great milestone and I have been sharing my experiences with other collectors and builders across the country.

"But it is not just the bricks I have, I've got models used in shop displays which have been glued together, egg cups, badges, glasses anything to do with Lego really."

The Hyphen -

shortest dash visually

meant only for hyphenating words or creating line breaks

The Minus Sign –

slightly longer than the hyphen, usually the same length as the en dash

usually designed to be the same length as the plus and equals signs

The En Dash –

approximately the width of the capital N in any particular font. Use the en dash when indicating duration, such as when you could substitute the word "to."

also use an en dash when you have a compound adjective, one part of which consists of two words or a hyphenated word

The Em Dash —

twice as long as the en dash

length if the capital M in any particular font

used in much the way a colon or set of parentheses is used: it can show an abrupt change in thought or be used where a period is too strong and a comma too weak. An em dash should never be used with spaces on either side

The 2007 Outdoor Grand Prix went to a campaign that quite literally gave power to the people. Network BBDO, Johannesburg took home the top prize in outdoor work for NedBank's "Power to the People" solar-powered billboard.

What ultimately swayed the jury in the favor of the NedBank work was the fact that the solar power being collected by the billboard was helping to power several community buildings, including a school house.
At a time when it so common to have short term promotions, the fact that it was "work that continues to work and continues providing, " said jury chair Jean-Remy Von Matt, founder-chairman, Jung Von Matt, was key. The fact that it was actually making a difference in the community made all the difference to the jury.
