Immunity deal hampers Blackwater inquiry

"Once you give immunity, you can't take it away," said a senior law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

The State Department promised Blackwater USA bodyguards immunity from prosecution in its investigation of last month's deadly shooting of 17 Iraqi civilians, The Associated Press has learned.

The immunity deal has delayed a criminal inquiry into the Sept. 16 killings and could undermine any effort to prosecute security contractors for their role in the incident that has infuriated the Iraqi government.

The investigative misstep comes in the wake of already-strained relations between the United States and Iraq, which is demanding the right to launch its own prosecution of the Blackwater bodyguards

Linspire Inc., developer of the commercial desktop Linux operating system and Freespire (their free community ops system), announced that as of today its CNR (Click ‘N Run) service will be free. Yes, we said free.

Linspire also announced plans for a new, open-sourced version of its CNR client as part of Freespire 1.1 to be released later this year, also at no charge. This might be just the excuse you need to jump on the ol’ Linux bandwagon.

LONDON (AP) - Madame Tussauds unveiled a new environmentally friendly wax figure of Prince Charles on Wednesday to reflect his efforts to combat climate change.

To create its first "green" figure, workers recycled wax from a 1989 figure of the Prince of Wales and updated it with 82 pounds of organic beeswax, 55 pounds of clay and fiberglass. Artists used organic pigments to color the skin.

Sculptors worked only with their hands and in daylight to cut down on electricity usage. Workers rode bicycles to attend planning meetings during the four-month project.

The remaining carbon the process generated was to be offset by the planting of three trees in Cornwall.

The wax Prince Charles is wearing a tailored gray suit, a periwinkle dress shirt, a red-and-green striped tie and black shoes. It cost $298,000 to make, which is comparable to the average cost of a figure.

The green Prince Charles figure is part of a new, $2 million exhibit of the royal family launched Wednesday.

Hybrid Hydrogen-Carbon Process - A New Biofuel Breakthrough?

A new process of creating biofuels could lead to the US becoming an exporter of oil, instead of an importer, according to Purdue University Scientists.

The new process is called H2CAR for "hybrid hydrogen-carbon process." This process (H2CAR) can be used to provide a sustainable fuel supply to meet the needs of the entire U.S. transportation sector...

H2CAR will enable us to use our current fuel delivery system and internal combustion engines. The method can also be used to produce liquid gas from coal without the production of CO2, eliminating the need for carbon dioxide sequestering.
