It could eventually help patients who had suffered heart attacks, they said.

A mixture of "progenitor" cells, taken from blood and bone marrow, made cells lining the vessels, and also those surrounding the lining.

A UK expert said that the Harvard research was "promising", and could eventually help lab-grown organs to be implanted successfully.

The ability to develop swiftly a new network of tiny blood vessels - known as capillaries - would be a prize for scientists.

There are dozens of potential applications in medicine, particularly in the treatment of conditions which involve damage to a tissue's blood supply, such as that to the heart muscle following a heart attack.

However, the complex structure of these vessels has slowed progress.

The service, called "Lively," represents Google's answer to an already well-established site, "Second Life," where people deploy animated alter egos known as avatars to navigate virtual reality.

Google thinks "Lively" will encourage even more people to dive into alternate realities because it isn't tethered to one Web site like Second Life, and it doesn't cost anything to use.

Lively's users will be able to sculpt an avatar that can be male, female or even a different species. An avatar can assume a new identity, change clothes or convey emotions with a few clicks of the mouse.

It's time to retire the NSFW acronym and associated phrases. I've simply seen far too many electrons sacrificed in long, pointless arguments about what "not safe for work" means.

Whose work? Are you bleaching the hot tubs at Playboy Mansion or arranging candlelight vigils for Citizens Against Potty Mouths? Are you European? To hear some Europeans tell the story, everyone over there watches hard-core porn and smokes hashish between staff meetings where they discuss where to find the best porn and hashish.

Most people end up taking one of two stances, each filling in important words. First, there are those who read the classic warning as "not safe for (my) work." These people are touchy.

Here's my cutting-edge solution: How about if we actually describe things? This isn't semaphore, people

Tags: blogging, language, tags, nsfw, work

<clipSource>http://www.wired.com/entertainment/theweb/commentary/alttext/2008/06/alttext_0611</clipSource>

Weird Things People Keep In Jars

clipped by: Athletes and pregnant women need a little more, but if you're eating enough calories from a varied plant based diet, it's close to impossible to not to get enough.

Plus, since plant-based protein sources don't contain cholesterol or high amounts of saturated fat, they are much better for you than meat, eggs, and dairy products.

Tags: vegetarian

<clipSource>http://www.alternet.org/healthwellness/86942/</clipSource>

Origin of Numbers

clipped by: hitchhiker08
clipper's remarks: More to it than just the Abacus!

Clip Source: www.euphoria-magazine.com

There's a rainstorm underway on the sun's eastern limb. You'd better
bring your asbestos umbrella, though, because the "droplets"
are Texas-sized blobs of hot plasma:

Prominences are clouds of hydrogen held above the surface of the
sun by magnetic fields. While this particular cloud appears to be
raining like a summer shower on Earth, the true situation is more
complicated. Look carefully: Some of the plasma raindrops are falling
"up." That's because the motions are controlled by not
only gravity but also magnetism, a force of little importance in
terrestrial rainstorms. The solar magnetic field is rooted below
the sun's visible surface; roiling motions in the body of the sun
itself cause magnetic fields high overhead to shift, wriggle, and
"rain" in all directions. No wonder prominences are so
              much fun to watch.

Tags: science, astronomy, sun

<clipSource>http://spaceweather.com/</clipSource>

The Stuff of Nightmares!

clipped by: CrazyRedHead
clipper's remarks: ...25 seconds of ...eeeEEEKKK !!!!!!!!!

Clip Source: www.youtube.com

Screaming Frog - Exclusive!

Tags: frog, weird, nature, animals, omg, horror, bizarre

<clipSource>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSzhjqwB8C4</clipSource>

Failure is Priceless!

clipped by: jplnoons
clipper's remarks: They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but failure is priceless!

Clip Source: my.mmoabc.com

Failure is Priceless!

href="http://clipmarks.com/clipper/rj3sp/">rj3sp
clipper's remarks: Indian engineering students have created a virtual computer that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. All it needs is an internet connection.

Clip Source: www.mumbaimirror.com

bloxtr.com

Tired of lugging that heavy laptop around? Today’s Web site lets you take your computing online, and access it from anywhere. Bloxtr is completely free, and offers a familiar Windows-like interface; complete with an office suite, games, and accessories.

Clip Source: objsam.wordpress.com

<A title="Permanent Link to Don’t have a laptop? Ansar and P.P. Ismail, final year computer science students at an engineering college in Kerala India, have set up www.bloxtr.com, the prototype of a virtual computer in which you can store all your important documents, favorite music, colorful pictures and even videos.

The idea is that no one needs to carry a laptop or pen drive around. You can upload any files to the website and access it from any corner of the world. What you need is just an interface to access the internet.

Clip Source: www.thepicky.com

According to the creators, bloxtr is just a project and they are hoping for investment by corporate firms for the further development of their prototype.

Tags: bloxtr, virtual, computer

<clipSource>http://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpaper.aspx?page=article&sectid=22&contentid=2008050320080503020727734a741bde0</clipSource>

The photonic beetle

clipped by: Silkweaver

Clip Source: www.physorg.com

<img src="http://clipmarks.com/image_cache/Silkweaver/512/2EB3B9C9-8796-4CCA-A93E-F98DEA0B5713.jpg" alt="This inch-long beetle from Brazil accomplished a task that so far has stymied human researchers. Researchers have been unable to build an ideal “photonic crystal” to manipulate visible light, impeding the dream of ultrafast optical computers. But now, University of Utah chemists have discovered that nature already has designed photonic crystals with the ideal, diamond-like structure: They are found in the shimmering, iridescent green scales of a beetle from Brazil.

“It appears that a simple creature like a beetle provides us with one of the technologically most sought-after structures for the next generation of computing,” says study leader Michael Bartl, an assistant professor of chemistry and adjunct assistant professor of physics at the University of Utah. “Nature has simple ways of making structures and materials that are still unobtainable with our million-dollar instruments and engineering strategies.”

The goal – still years away – is an ultrahigh-speed computer with optical integrated circuits or chips that run on light instead of electricity.

Tags: biology, photonics, bio mimicry

<clipSource>http://www.physorg.com/news130481875.html</clipSource>
