Outdoor Lights

Most times I don't go out at night.
I'd much prefer to stay in light.
But just last night I heard a sound,

Outside my door and moving round.

My outdoor lights don't work too well.
I went outside. Dark as hell.
I tripped and fell upon my knee.

A raccoon stood and stared at me.

Vintage Dolls

Lately, I've been focusing on Barbie. She is such a classic and everyone knows who she is. I've had Barbies around for a while, but I was always more focused on older dolls. I recently came across an amazing old lot on eBay that I grabbed for a major bargain. Picking up those dolls got me into Barbie mode in a big way. Doing research, checking out condition and photos...That is all part of the fun you find when you start collecting vintage dolls.

Vintage Video Games

I remember spending many, many hours of my youth sitting in front of the television with one of my favorite video games blaring out beeps, bops and various other sounds. I can also remember actually going through the blister phase and then on to the callous phase as my thumbs and fingers got accustomed to making the joystick do exactly what I expected from it.

Vintage Catalogs

Vintage catalogs are one of my favorite things to find at estate sales but they don't turn up all that often. I think they are one of those collectibles that were treated as ephemera and were often thrown away. I know there are a lot of people out there who collect the old Sears Christmas Wish Book catalogs. Personally, I don't think one ever survived my "wish list" building without having many, many items circled in ink when I was a kid. I can't even imagine anything like a mint copy getting by me as I prepared for the holidays. The older generation always told us that the Sears catalog is what they used to stock the outhouse with paper back in the day. Really. I don't think I could make that up. That is yet another strike against the odds of one surviving in good shape.

I've got to admit that I never intentionally went out looking for marbles for sale. While it is true that I have always focused on the "offbeat" items that qualify as collectibles, and it has been a constant learning experience, antique and vintage marbles were not something I actively looked for. Instead, they seemed to find me. Just about every time I've ended up with marbles to sell, I've found them inside of some larger container or in a box of mixed treasures that I bought as part of a larger lot.

One of my favorite things to find at estate sales is old advertising materials. There was a time when I had every intention of totally redecorating my game room with a vintage advertising theme. It may still happen, but not until I've cleared a lot more estate merchandise out of my house. It's kind of funny that I like old advertising so much. I absolutely abhor commercials today. About the only time I'll sit still to watch or listen to them is during the Super Bowl. The reason I'll watch then, is because the producers of the commercials are actually forced to get truly creative and produce a quality product for thirty very expensive seconds.

Vintage Iron Maiden concert shirts are held in high esteem by collectors. I've sold a LOT of vintage concert tour t shirts on eBay and I'd have to say that Iron Maiden fans are some of the most hard core when it comes to getting the shirts they want. Iron Maiden formed in 1975 and then exploded in the U.S. in 1982. They had a string of hit albums and I personally remember myself and many of my friends wearing those freshly minted concert t shirts back in the '80s.

The people who collect trading pins are often VERY into the hobby. Special trading vests are made just for showing off pins. The pins you might be willing to sell or trade are worn on the vest, while your special "keeper" pins are kept somewhere out of the way and safe. This is no small deal here. The people who trade these pins can take things pretty seriously and they know how much their pins are worth. They are a dedicated bunch and they seem to be very concerned with keeping things ethical and fair, which is very nice to hear. They want to get the pins they covet, but they really like meeting people with a similar interest along the way.

I wasn't sure if I'd be able to find much when I started researching vintage baseball gloves. I lucked out by finding some videos (I included a couple at the bottom of this post) and websites that were filled with information.

When I list my gloves, I'm not going to do anything in the way of reconditioning them. If you are a potential seller of almost anything "vintage" you might want to keep that tip in mind. It often seems like a natural thing to clean something up before offering it for sale to someone, but with older items, you can end up doing a lot more harm than good. Sometimes older relics just can't stand up to a good cleaning unless it is done by a professional who really knows what they are doing.
