The free plug-in for the Firefox Web browser allows easy photo uploading to several online gallery sites.

Kodak and the software maker Mozilla have released the Firefox Companion for Kodak EasyShare Gallery, a photo-uploading plug-in for Mozilla's Firefox Web browser. The Companion provides drag-and-drop photo uploading from a computer folder or Web site to albums on the Kodak EasyShare Gallery site, as well as to albums on Flickr, Tabblo, Marela, 23, and Smugmug. It also provides tools for adding captions and tags to photos, and for creating new albums.

The Firefox Companion is available now as a free download from the Mozilla Firefox Web site.

jetzt geht die GEMA gegen den “Share-Hoster” Rapidshare vor. Der Grund ist die Bereitstellung von Urheberrechtlichem Material durch Nutzer dieses Dienstleisters. Auf Rapidshare kann man Dateien abspeichern und diese dann per http Link, anderen Webnutzern zum Download zur Verfügung stellen.

Wieso ist das Vorgehen der Tod von Web2.0?

GEMA-Chef Dr. Harald Heker leitet aus dieser Entscheidung auch Konsequenzen für Dienste wie YouTube und MySpace ab: “Diese Entscheidungen sind auch für den künftigen Umgang mit Web 2.0-Diensten wie YouTube und MySpace von großer Bedeutung. Sie zeigen, dass die bloße Abwälzung der Nutzungshandlungen auf die Nutzer und die angebliche Unkontrollierbarkeit der Inhalte den Dienstbetreiber nicht von seiner urheberrechtlichen Verantwortlichkeit für die auf seiner Webseite zum Abruf gestellten Inhalte entheben.”

Wenn die Klage so einfach durch geht ist das vermute ich, dass Ende des User generated Content!

Web 2.0 style buttons

Nowadays Web 2.0 style becomes more popular. Every day tons of sites which has simple, bright and very interesting things, appear in Network. There are no standards about creating any Web 2.0 elements, but we have several typical features, for example and clean colors, many gradients.

Today I want to show you how to create Web 2.0 styled button using Adobe Photoshop CS2.

Open the Photoshop, create new document for the button.
Create shape for future button using Rounded Rectangle tool on toolbar, specify round radius.
Right click on rectangle layer in Layers palette, choose Blending Options.
Set the Gradient Overlay effect parameters. I have following color of first and second thumb: 434343, third – 000000.
You can find Stroke effect parameters below. Stroke color is 363636.
Set the Inner Glow effect options.
As the result you will get following image:
Create rectangle using Rounded Rectangle tool, it will be used as button glare.
Right click on “glare” layer, choose Rasterize Layer.
Click Edit in Quick Mask Mode on toolbar.
Choose Gradient Tool, create gradient like following:
After leaving quick mask mode, you will get selection area. Click Delete button.
Add layer with text “Entries RSS” and RSS icon. Set Drop Shadow effect parameters.

Now you got following button:

After changing different effects parameters, adding or changing elements, I got following buttons:

Hey fellas at CM team,

I just stumbled upon the new Clipmarks Widget for Wordpress and had an idea...

What if there would be a way to use Clipmarks as a bookmarking service for blog posts (yes, just like the digg and reddit buttons you all know)?

I know that the nature of clipping is different to the ordinary old and stinky way of digg & co. and so I had the following idea:

- User marks (highlights) the section of his interest on the blog

[- If he does not highlight content, just the meta description of the page gets copied (or if this is not possible, nothing gets copied, just the URL)]

- User clicks on the clipmarks button

- A window opens with the login screen

- After log in, the highlighted content is shown in the clip edit panel, to add tags, a headline and put it into a collection

I don't know how difficult that would be to develop, but I created two blog widgets for my blogs and they work very well, just with a little bit of Java Script. So I believe that this must be possible.

I think that could drive a lot of traffic to Clipmarks and would promote it very good. People start to get interested in CM when they see the cool clip button.

The way to highlight content and clip it would make it possible to not clip entire paragraphs but sentences of a text... I know that there is no way to highlight different parts of the page, but I think it would be very cool though.

It would also give you the chance to clip without a clipmark extension installed (it sometimes happens when I'm at a friend's place or in public internet cafes).

I don't think that this would be redundant because of the fact that the clippers have allready installed the extension, I believe it could be a nice and usefull add-on.

Am I crazy? What do you think about it?

Pandora’s Jar does not come with much documentation and it is not the most intuitive application to use. Fortunately, it is fairly easy to use if you carefully follow this step by step tutorial. Once you get the hang of starting Pandora’s Jar, you will soon have nicely labeled mp3 copies of everything you listen to on Pandora filling your hard drive. This program’s “low” rating is solely because it is hard to use, if I were just rating it’s ability to do what it claims, it would be at least a 4.5.

I'm aware that this is more likely to be a result of a quirk with the CMS that they're using rather than being handcoded cruft. However, this really highlights the need for clean and responsible code generation by CMS. For a company that was previously highlighted for accessiblity, it's quite a letdown. [back]

Holla my Clippers and Clipettes*,

like I discribed in my Clipmark about fulltext search for Clipmarks it is very easy to add socalled "Smart Keywords" to Firefox and other browsers.

It's definetly a timesaver if you are used to type queries into your favourite web apps a thousand times a day like I do.

I tried the Clipmarks text search with that, but I got no good results. I know that the Clipmark guys are working on a better search function (yeahhh go, CM team, go!), but anyway...

I had to add a tag search to my Firefoxizzle smart keywords!

It's so easy... Create a new Quick Search Bookmark in Firefox and take this string:

http://clipmarks.com/tags/%s/

You can use any keyword for that. I used "cmt".

Tagclouds and following other Clippers are a good way to stay update in the Cliposphere. With your browser's Smart Keywords it's much more simpler:

Type into your browser location bar "cmt music" to get the Clipmarks tagsite for "music". You can use AND and OR etc. to get Clipmarks tagged with "music AND mp3" for example. Just type in "cmt music and mp3". How nice is that?

If you are Firefox, Opera or Surfari User, you can easyly create a full text "quick search" for Clipmarks.

How to:
- Just bookmark this Link here: Clipmarks [via Yahoo]
- Add it to your "Quick Search" Bookmark Folder

- Open your new bookmark with a right click / properties and add "cm" to the "keyword" field

You can now simply type in "cm searchphrase" in your browsers location bar to get all Clipmarks with the text "searchphrase".

Tested and works very well!
