Take a look on the net and you'll see endless pages of AJAX Frameworks: libraries which promise to do all the trivial and dirty AJAX work for you, leaving you free to code without actually understanding how the application you're writing really works. So lets pull back the smoke and mirrors and see what AJAX is and why it's just a simple evolution of client/server tricks Javascript programmers have been doing since the web was born.

Simply put, AJAX is a method for your javascript programs to talk to your server and send and request data. There's nothing particularly new about this. Javascript programmers have been communicating with the server in the background ever-since the FRAME tag became available. So we'll begin learning about AJAX by learning how things were done before AJAX became buzzworthy. The first thing to do is to set up an iframe somewhere on the page. The IFRAME will call a page on the server called http://www.hunlock.com/examples/notajax.html.

Googlebot learns AJAX / Javascript

Last week I found hundreds of my pages which were only accessible via Java Script in Google SERPs... It seems that Google launched a new algo for Java Scripts. Great! Hopefully it will stop the JS spam in Google SERPs! And great to hear for AJAX rich sites.

Vereinzelt hatte ich schon von solchen Fällen gehört, aber dies war das erste mal, dass ich selbst dieses Phänomen registrieren konnte. Gestern sah ich dann mal wieder in die Logs und wurde vollends verblüfft:

Das Faszinierende: Die suggest.php ist nirgendwo normal verlinkt, sondern wird nur über eine die Ajax.Autocompleter Methode von Scriptaculous aufgerufen. So langsam beginnt dieser Bot sich wie ein menschlicher Benutzer zu verhalten.

It lives! I’ve been pushing and planning for this since last summer, and I couldn’t be more excited. Nor could I be happier with the response we’ve received so far from all of you. Thanks for the encouragement and all the kind words.

What am I talking about? About nine hours ago we publicly released and open-sourced two cool previously-internal libraries, a companion blog, and an article on Graded Browser Support that I authored:

About Listible

Listible is a new way to get relevant resources quickly.

By using Web 2.0 features such as AJAX, folksonomy (tagging), social elements such as voting/commenting and the listible's listonomy (listing), resources can be sorted in a way that will be digestible. You can search what you need quick. You can contribute your resources easier.

Why do we need tagging, voting and listing to sort resources?

Tagging is not the full answer. Tags can give you categorization, but it could not give you a destination. If you are trying to find resources on fixing CSS for IE browser's CSS bugs, usually you go to css tag, and very high chance that you will get millions of resources that is not about anything on IE browser bugs. You can try to find information with css joined with ie tags, but how can we know everyone uses both tags?

Voting cannot be the only answer for relevancy. Even though the most popular resources are on the top, if the system does not have a way to differentiate varies topics, you still wouldn't find any resources easily.

Listing combined with tagging and voting gives you a greater relevancy. Finding a list called "Resources related to IE browser CSS bugs" tagged with css is easier. In each list, community can provide any relevant URLs. The most relevant and popular resource will be sorted on the top, thanks to the voting system. Is this resource listible? If it is, then you are sharing the resources to the right person. This is listible all about.

There are so many different ways you can use the listible system. The sky is the only limit here.
