Thoughts on Creativity

clipped by: franstuff
clipper's remarks: I LOVE this website! I have posted another page from her website on Art Journals. I clipped the pictures, and a few words, obviously I couldn't clip them all, and still have you be able to see it.

I realize that sometimes creative people are just scattered, like I am. I also realize that every piece I make does NOT have to be "perfect" or mean anything at all to anyone but me. Collage is another way to express myself, journal, let feelings out....art therapy.

Clip Source: artjunk.typepad.com

Collage, Interrupted.

Here is another collage I started putting together when I was "supposed" to be working on another project. This is what happens when I sit down to clean my desk, and/or work on a project that is due, like in 5 minutes. I get interrupted by all the scraps and colors. I see a collage from the mix of things in my bin. This is my favorite way to store scraps and ephemera: in a loose, random, pile. It really get's my imagination working. Over time I've learned to accept the random manner in which I work. I must keep a list of deadlines on my desk to remind me of my obligations, but while I work, I am away in fairy land. This is a place I want to continue visiting, even if I get interrupted by reality. I can go back to my little world...nestled in scraps of magic and wonder, if only in my mind. xoxo Lia

<div align="center" width="100%" by: franstuff
clipper's remarks: I really like this website! She loves to make Art out of Junk...thus the name ArtJunk. I love art journals, and I love the idea of just using a plain old comp book. I have also been working on one of these using an unreadable book.

Use what you have, re-use something, recycle...don't buy anything!! Save money and the environment at the same time!

Clip Source: artjunk.typepad.com

Clip Source: artjunk.typepad.com

Art Journal Tutorial 101

I start with putting wax paper down under each page to prevent sticking, mess, etc...

Then I use gesso to prepare the page. Gesso is like white paint primer. You can find in painting isle. It helps give page some body and prevents paint from soaking in. Please note though that you will not have "perfect" results in a composition book. There will still be some wrinkling, buckling, but I assure you they are fun to work in and great as a art journal!

I'm really into working on my art journal again. the hook
to the weight of the strip, and not work really tight stitches. Heavy
fabrics
and wide cotton strips don't work well for these types of rugs, since a
prominent ribbed effect is created.

Radial Crocheted Rug Patterns

So two schools of thought developed-one which called for bias
cut strips
of cottons, and the other which used straight cut (or torn) strips. Of
course in moving away from the traditional straight strips, the rugs
were
supposed to be easier to make, but unfortunately the resulting bias
rugs
continued to stretch, even after they were made, and didn't hold their
shape well.

Straight-cut fabric strip has no 'give' like yarn does,
and
bias-cut fabric strip will stretch out, but does not have the
resilience
to resume its original shape as yarns will.

<clipSource>http://www.netw.com/~rafter4/crochpttns.htm</clipSource>

Crochet Rag Rug = Use What you Have

clipped by: franstuff
clipper's remarks: Our foremother's had the right idea about recycling. These rugs were created in grandmother's day to utilize scraps of fabric and worn out clothing. The cloth was cut into strips, sewn together, and then rolled into a ball. When there was enough material, it would be crocheted into colorful rag rugs. This project was something that every frugal homemaker did.

When all of the fabric has been turned into strips, begin to sew them together at the ends. With right sides facing each other, place the ends at a 90 degree angle and sew from corner to corner. Use a ¼ inch seam allowance. This creates a bias seam.

Turn the raw edges into the middle of the strip. Some people do this as they are rolling the ball into yarn and others press the edges to set them. Whichever way you prefer is fine. Once all the fabric is prepared it is time to crochet your rug.

small planter or clay pots

styrofoam cone

glue (I used E-6000)

gold spray paint

assorted buttons, earrings, beads or jewelry findings

assorted ribbons and greenery

florist moss

Begin by gluing 2 clay post together. Allow to dry. Spray paint gold, allow to
dry.

In the meantime, starting at the TOP of the styrofoam cone, secure assorted
flat backed buttons as close together as possible. Do not worry about spaces.
You will add another layer of buttons (shank) to fill in any holes. STOP
approximately 1-1.5 inches from bottom. Work in sections, allowing to dry
thoroughly between sessions. Once the cone has been decorated to your
satisfaction, place a layer of glue on the INSIDE of the clay pot. Place a small
amount of moss (allow to "hang out" slightly) and firmly push cone into the clay
pot. Move moss around to cover any styrofoam. You can add additional buttons
later to fill in any blank spaces. Allow glue to dry. You may now decorate the
outside of the pot using wired ribbon and greenery.

<clipSource>http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf97390912.tip.html</clipSource>

COOL Idea for CD cases

clipped by: franstuff
clipper's remarks: Great idea to recycle those cd cases you don't use anymore! We made a Father's Day organizer for my husband. I placed photos of the kids on each side and let them decorate their own page. We placed a poem on a blank side. You can use this organizer for many things. You can even place the cds back inside of the organizer. It would make a great Christmas gift for grandparents etc. We even made on for the teacher for Earth Day.

You need 5 empty CD cases and some hot glue. Start with one case on the bottom and glue each side one at a time. Be sure you can open the case cover as you glue it to the bottom. When you are done gluing, open each case and add decorative paper or photos etc.

By Wendy from Coopersburg, PA

<clipSource>http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf50222016.tip.html</clipSource>

Recycled Styrofoam Jewelry Hanger

clipped by: franstuff
clipper's remarks: This is a really cool idea!
