Description of problem: Start with a fresh iptables ruleset. service iptables stop rm /etc/sysconfing/iptables add the following rule (among other if you wish): iptables -A INPUT -p icmp --icmp-type any -j ACCEPT service iptables save now if you try a "service iptables start" you will get: "Applying iptables firewall rules: Bad argument `any'" cat your /etc/sysconfig/iptables and it appears that the "service iptables save" did not save the command correctly: cat /etc/sysconfig/iptables|grep icmp returns -A INPUT -p icmp -m icmp any -j ACCEPT Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): iptables-1.2.8-12 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. service iptables stop 2. rm /etc/sysconfing/iptables 3. iptables -A INPUT -p icmp --icmp-type any -j ACCEPT 4. service iptables save 5. service iptables start Actual Results: "Applying iptables firewall rules: Bad argument `any'" Expected Results: iptables should start without error.

You specified an invalid NLS parameter, either in the registry, on the command prompt or shell or using the alter session set NLS.... command.

Either remove the invalid setting from the registry, unset it in the command prompt/shell or fix the alter session statement.

Delete a Service

Normally it should not be necessary to manually delete a service. Uninstalling an application should remove its associated service (if any).

However, should it be necessary to manually remove a service:

Run Regedit or regedt32.
Find the registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services
Find the service there and delete it.
You may wish to look at the keys and see what files the service was using and perhaps delete them also.

Note:

You will have to reboot before the list gets updated in server manager.
I have had it pointed out that some programs are cunning and prevent you from removing their service easily. (For example the spyware\malware called ‘Command Service’ - "cmdService".) These change the permissions to make it more difficult for you to delete them. For these you will have to right click on the ‘service’ in regedit (regedt32), go to permissions and grant the administrator full control before the service can be deleted.

1.	Haga clic en Inicio, seleccione Programas, seleccione Microsoft SQL Server 2005, seleccione Configuration Tools y a continuación, haga clic en SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.

AccentSensitivity:	Sensibilidad a los acentos, tildes y demás. Funciona en los dos tipos de intercalaciones.
AI:	Sin sensibilidad [accent-insensitive]
AS:	Sensible [accent-sensitive]
BIN:	Funciona en los dos tipos de intercalaciones y sirve para especificar si se utiliza el ordenamiento binario.
KS: sensible [kanatype-sensitive].	KanatypeSensitive para distinguir Kana: este parámetro permite la distinción entre dos tipos de carácteres japoneses (Hiragana, Katakana); si no es seleccionado, estos carácteres son tomados como iguales. Este parámetro sólo aplica a las intercalaciones Windows.
WS:	WidthSensitivity: permite distinguir la representación lógica de los carácteres para poder compararlos como iguales o diferentes desde su ancho (byte), sin importar que sean el mismo caracter. Si no es seleccionado, SQL Server no realiza distinciones entre anchos de carácteres. Este parámetro sólo aplica a las intercalaciones Windows.

SQL Server 2000 and SQL2005

Yes, as Adam says, it is possible, pretty straightforward in fact. You will need to install SQL Server 2000 first if it is not already installed. Then Install SP3 or above on it. Then install SQL 2005 as a named instance. BOL has a handy compatibility chart for the various versions.

If SQL 2000 is already installed and working then everything should be simple as long as SP3 or above is installed. This is because, Before SP3, SQL Server 2000 didn't relinquish SQL listener service on port 1434 when SQL Browser Service starts. This meant that the Browser service couldn't start unless you'd stopped SQL 2000 beforehand.

Since SP3, all should be well.

I'm not sure if there are any snags with installing version 7, 8 and 9 all together on the one machine (handy for a development server that has to cope with existing systems), I haven't tried this, but Microsoft claims that it is possible. What about you, Adam? Have you got all three versions working together?
