My friend Becky made me an Arduino birthday cake this year! There was a fight over the AVR chip (dark chocolate) which involved memory loss and a cake knife. Candles became wire sticking out of the pins. Seriously awesome. Next task: to make LED candles that you have to short out instead of blow out.

A very pregnant Helena Bonham Carter was spotted last night leaving Cipriani in London with her husband director Tim Burton. They look like street urchins that made a heroin-fueled escape from a production of Charles Dickens' “A Christmas Carol.” Helena Bonham Carter seems to be amazed there’s a ground beneath her feet. While Tim Burton’s deep inside his brain trying to decide which is more awesome: stop-motion animation or Johnny Depp. Whichever one wins will be the kid's name. Unless they go with "Gothy McGothicstein."

CBS offers free wifi in midtown Manhattan

Some awesome news out of Manhattan today. CBS Corporation has announced today that it will "light up" midtown Manhattan with the creation of the "CBS Mobile Zone," a wireless high-speed network enabling New Yorkers with Wi-Fi-enabled cell phones, laptops or other devices to access the Internet for free, and make voice over internet (VOI) calls.

The zone will be from Times Square to Central Park South and from 6th Avenue to 8th Avenue and is a test in partnership with the MTA.

You might be asking what CBS gets out of the deal - ad impressions! New Yorkers who access the "CBS Mobile Zone," will be greeted by an ad-supported homepage

Eye-Fi has just announced the release of their new wireless SD memory card for digital cameras. The card, which they have been beta testing over the last year and a half, connects your local wi-fi network and automatically uploads photos stored on the card to your computer or to one of 17 online photo sharing services and social networks. The 2GB SD card is now available and is priced at $99.99.

The Eye-Fi Card works with existing and new SD-compatible digital cameras and stores photos like a conventional SD memory card.

clipper's remarks: I called our awesome local pharmacy in Astoria to see if they had any on the shelves, as they've been keeping me in plenty of my trusted real abuterol (with CFCs, but it works better), but no luck on the Cylert.

If you have a good local pharmacy that you think might stock Cylert (aka Pemoline), or are in another country which hasn't banned it, please call to see if there is any available. If there is, contact Len directly through his twitter account or comment here and I'll get in touch with him.

The phonecall to my local pharmacy took 5 min. Please take a few minutes if you can, it could save a life!

My mother, 78, has MS & is about to run out of Cylert aka Pemoline, a drug taken off market by FDA in 2006. She depends on this to function... We found a forgotten supply of Cylert in Casper, Wyoming last year and have scoured the world looking for more. Anyone with pharmacy links? ( Cylert was taken off market because it caused liver problems in some children. Not a concern for Mom. She also uses bee stings to fight MS.)

I don't know anyone who works in the pharmacy world -- but I do know a lot of people. (So does Len -- he'd just Twittered to Robert Scoble moments earlier.) And so do the people I know. Surely, somehow, someone we know must be able to help Len Edgerly out.

Google Analytics for Facebook Apps

Good news for the developers of Facebook applications. Now they get Google Analytics for their apps, for better monitoring and maintenance of activity on Facebook.

Most important is the new FBML tag, allowing application publishers to embed the Google Analytics tracking code for the Analytics account of their choice.

There’s also a rating system that developers can now see, alerting them to the “spaminess” of their applications. This pertains to the notifications and feeds systems on Facebook. Now developers know when they are approaching high levels of spaminiess, and will hopefully be able to modify accordingly. This is important, as Facebook is pretty strict when it comes to spaminess, and now developers can see the data that backs up Facebook’s actions, should an application be reprimanded or suspended due to over-activity.

Google solar panel project

There's been quite a few developments in the past year which should help up the output on future installations like this if they come to market. It'd be great to see google get their net energy use down near 0.

In October 2006, Google announced a commitment to solar energy production and launched the largest solar panel installation to date on a corporate campus in the United States. Google has installed over 90% of the 9,212 solar panels that comprise the 1,600 kilowatt project. Panels cover the rooftops of eight buildings and two newly constructed solar carports at the Googleplex (check out this SketchUp fly-over video).

This installation is projected to produce enough electricity for approximately 1,000 California homes or 30% of Google's peak electricity demand in our solar powered buildings at our Mountain View, CA headquarters.
