Sexual harassment okay as it ensures humans breed, Russian judge rules

A Russian advertising executive who sued her boss for sexual harassment lost her case after a judge ruled that employers were obliged to make passes at female staff to ensure the survival of the human race.

The judge said he threw out the case not through lack of evidence but because the employer had acted gallantly rather than criminally.

"If we had no sexual harassment we would have no children," the judge ruled.

According to a recent survey, 100 per cent of female professionals said they had been subjected to sexual harassment by their bosses, 32 per cent said they had had intercourse with them at least once and another seven per cent claimed to have been raped.

Human rights activists say that Russian women remain second-class citizens and are subjected to some of the highest levels of domestic abuse in the world.

TO CONDEMN USE OF TORTURE IN ‘WAR ON TERROR’

Senate Joint Resolution 19 instructs the state’s licensing boards to inform California doctors, psychologists and other health professionals of their obligations under national and international law relating to torture. The boards will warn the licensees that they may one day be subject to prosecution if they participate in interrogations that do not conform to international standards of treatment of prisoners.

“As professional licensure and codes of ethics are regulated by states, California has the obligation to notify members of laws concerning torture that may result in their prosecution,” said Ridley-Thomas.

“No government has the authority to legalize torture,” Miles added

“Torture is much more than a political issue,” Ridley-Thomas said. “It is an ethical, moral and spiritual issue that has not only become a shame, but it is an evil in our midst.”

GEORGIAN TROOPS WITHDRAW FROM SOUTH OSSETIA, RUSSIA BOMBS TBILISI AIRPORT

Georgia on August 10 announced a withdrawal from the disputed territory of South Ossetia, but Russia’s bombing campaign against the South Caucasus country continued apace.

National Security Council Secretary Alexander Lomaia said the decision to pull Georgian forces out of the territory was made "in an attempt to negotiate a cease-fire" with Russia. "We can only hope that we will be able to do this to stop the aggression, " he said. The decision followed an August 9 order for a withdrawal from the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali.

At roughly 7pm on August 10, Russian planes bombed Tbilisi International Airport, the government reported. No casualties were reported. Three bombs had hit a plane factory and military airfield not far from the airport at roughly sunrise on Sunday morning.

Burma to put protesters on trial

Naypyitaw, Burma (dpa) - Protesters who participated in the September demonstrations in Rangoon will not be prosecuted if they had acted peacefully, the top Burmese policeman said Monday.

"Only those individuals involved in arson or the possession of illegal weapons will be brought to trial," police chief Khin Yi told a press conference in Naypyitaw, the new capital.

It was the government's first statement on the fate of thousands of people arrested since the anti-regime protests in Rangoon, the former capital, led by Buddhist monks.

The demonstrations, the largest since 1988, ended in a brutal crackdown on September 26-27 that left 15 people dead, according to official estimates.

The actual death till is believed to exceed 100.

"They claim to have released 2,000 to 3,000 but nobody knows how many people are still in detention," US charge d'affaires Shari Villarosa said last week in Bangkok.

clipper's remarks: You probably know that Musharraf declared martial law on Nov. 2 against the strongly expressed wishes of U.S. and other Western diplomats. The irony is that he claims (quite plausibly, in my view, but I don't know that much about it) to be doing it in order to prevent Pakistan being overrun by violent Islamist agitators, which would be a disaster of unfathomable proportions for the GWOT and U.S. policy generally (not to mention India and Afghanistan). I'm mystified about what the U.S. really wants Musharraf to do.

Stop the Death Penalty: The World Decides

"There is a real momentum towards abolition of the death penalty," said Irene Khan, Secretary General of Amnesty International. "A total of 133 UN member states, from all regions in the world, have abolished the death penalty in law or in practice. Only 25 countries carried out executions in 2006, 91percent of them in just six countries: China, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan and the USA. Those that chose this most cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment are increasingly in the minority."

"Governments must endorse the UN General Assembly resolution on a global moratorium on executions and take an important step to create a world without executions."

Recorded executions worldwide fell by more than 25 percent in 2006, with a drop from at least 2,148 in 2005 to at least 1,591 in 25 countries in 2006. At least 3,861 people were sentenced to death in 55 countries in 2006.

Palestinian PM warns preachers

The new Palestinian prime minister has delivered a stern warning to hundreds of Islamic preachers, including Hamas supporters.

Salam Fayyad has said he won't tolerate calls for violence delivered from mosque pulpits and plans to collect militants' weapons.

Fayyad's meeting on Thursday with some 800 Muslim clergy marked the latest attempt to stem the influence of Hamas in the West Bank following the Islamists' violent takeover of Gaza this month.

But Fayyad's crackdown on Hamas was complicated by Israel's hunt for gunmen from Abbas' Fatah movement in the West Bank city of Nablus. ''We view this aggression as a way to undermine our efforts to provide security and end the chaos,'' Fayyad said.

Abbas, Hamas, Dahlan, and the PA should go to hell

It is not a secret now that since the elections of Hamas, the Americans, Israel EU and Arab states are supporting only Fatah with arms, money and all kind of aid to keep them in power. In fact we now know that the American military coordinator and representative at the Palestinian military, the war criminal General Keith Dayton
will continue his work for “training the Palestinian forces” (Fatah only) in the West Bank.

What the media is not telling us is that the continued failings of the PA government and bloody disaster which the radical militants of Hamas brought upon the lives of all Palestinians was the last nail in the coffin of the PA government, Abbas as President and Hamas as elected party.

The Palestinians now want the Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to resign, and the International Community to take charge of their responsibility toward the Palestinians for peace and order in all Palestinian cities, in the West Bank and Gaza.

500 Terror Attacks in EU in 2006 - But Only 1 by Islamists

There were almost 500 acts of terrorism across the European Union in 2006 -- but only one, the foiled suitcase bomb plot in Germany, was related to Islamist terror, a new EU report reveals. Meanwhile the trial of one of the main suspects in the German plot has been adjourned in Lebanon.

According to a report released Tuesday by Europol, the European Union's law enforcement organization, 498 attacks were carried out in the EU in 2006. Of them, only one -- the failed suitcase bomb attacks in Germany -- was perpetrated by Islamist terrorists.

The vast majority of terrorist attacks were carried out by separatist terror groups targeting France and Spain. Almost all attacks "resulted only in material damage and were not intended to kill," the report's authors write.

Mortgage ignorance rampant

As concerns about subprime mortgages plague the nation's leaders and lenders, America's homeowners are confused and worried about their own mortgages, according to a poll commissioned by Bankrate.com.

Nelson has lived up to his beliefs with his latest film Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple. In this film he explores the evolution of the Peoples Temple under the leadership of Reverend Jim Jones as he attempts to uncover the real story behind the largest mass suicide in modern history that took place in Jonestown, Guyana on November 18, 1978.

Nelson: A couple years ago I heard Peoples Temple members on the radio and I was captivated by their story and the way they talked about it. It was very different from the stories that I had heard. The way they talked about it as an integrated community. It was just so different from what I previously heard about it that it fascinated me.

NC: Did you know a lot about Jim Jones when you started the film or did you begin to discover things as the production went on?

Nelson: In the beginning, I didn’t know anything more about it than anyone else at the time. All I knew was that there was a crazy man who had over 900 people commit suicide. I found out there was a lot more to it. That it was a social active movement and they wanted to change the world and better the world. They were almost a mainstream community in San Francisco at the time. They were part of the establishment and they were friends with a lot of politicians. They were just not this lunatic bunch of people.
