Jackson to produce ‘Rings’ prequel ‘Hobbit’

‘We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth’

Jackson, who directed “Rings,” will serve as executive producer for “The Hobbit.” A director for the prequel films has yet to be named.

“I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line,” Jackson said in a statement. “We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth.”

Most hilarious warning labels contest winners

A warning on a small tractor that reads "Danger: Avoid Death" has been chosen as the nation's wackiest warning label by an anti-lawsuit group.

Kevin Soave of Farmington Hills, a Detroit suburb, won the $500 grand prize for submitting the winning label.

The $250 second place was given to Carrianne, Jacob and Robby Turin of Greensburg, Pa., for a label they found on an iron-on T-shirt transfer that warns: "Do not iron while wearing shirt."

Richard Goodnow of Lancaster, Mass., earned the $100 third-place prize for a label on a baby stroller featuring a small storage pouch that warns: "Do not put child in bag."

Contest organizer Bob Dorigo Jones says the silly labels reflect how broken America's civil justice system is.

Vick sentenced to 23 months in prison

Star NFL quarterback pleaded guilty to bankrolling brutal dogfighting ring

Vick pleaded guilty in August. In a plea agreement, he admitted bankrolling the “Bad Newz Kennels” dogfighting operation on his 15-acre property in rural southeastern Virginia and helping kill six to eight pit bulls that did not perform well in test fights.

Court papers revealed gruesome details about Vick’s dogfighting operation, including the execution of underperforming dogs by electrocution, drowning, hanging and other means. Those details prompted a public backlash against the once-popular NFL star and outraged animal-rights groups, which used the case to call attention to the brutality of dogfighting.

Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks appeared at the Patriots' Sunday night game against the Eagles. She wore a Pats jersey and gave away women's underwear. And the New England fans booed her.

It’s unclear why the fans took out their wrath on the supermodel. One of the boys in da house suggested that the crowd found her voice annoying. Another said that Selita had made some sort of geographical blunder early in her presentation that aggravated the masses.

Another, more accurate theory is that they're gay, gay, gay. Gayer than Tom Cruise on a unicorn in a summer rainstorm. And not just a regular summer rainstorm. One of those semen rainstorms.

Traders wary of Fannie's mortgage math

Three years after a stunning accounting scandal that forced it to restate earnings by $6.3 billion, the giant government-sponsored company that buys and sells home loans is on the defensive over a change in how it calculates potential losses from the growing mortgage crisis.

The fear among investors is that a new accounting methodology masks the number of bad loans held by Fannie, downplaying potential losses.

The adjustment is particularly unnerving to Wall Street because the company was racked by an accounting scandal in 2004 that resulted in government sanctions and a tarnished reputation.

"They have very little room to play with here when it comes to trust and credibility," Falcon said in a telephone interview, adding that "it doesn't bode well for the new management."

He previously refused to allow her to visit her sister in a nearby community and had allegedly threatened her on more than one occasion. Stacy had told a number of friends that if anything happened to her it was not an accident; her husband, who had allegedly beaten her in the past, would kill her.

How to Avoid Getting into Trouble with Your Wife

That word is "uh-huh."

"Men who uh-huh aren't trying to multitask -- their goal in life is to monotask,"

As long as it's not egregious, and I occasionally look over and make eye contact, she will continue talking as if we are actually having a conversation. But then I'll go one uh-huh too far.

Please God, no -- not the pop quiz!

If I'm lucky -- and I haven't been inching the TV volume up too much during the "conversation" -- I might know the basic subject I've been uh-huh-ing through and be able to eke out a passing grade.
