They may be able to significantly increasing their earnings by integrating Google's search ads on their own site. Talk about a potential blow to microsoft. To think that they're left crying foul about this being anti-competitive after all these years is beyond ironic.

Clip Source: www.pcworld.com

Yahoo will test displaying Google search ads in a small number of its search engine queries, a move likely to be interpreted as the latest in a series of Yahoo maneuvers to resist Microsoft's acquisition attempt.

The test, expected to last up to two weeks and be limited to up to 3 percent of Yahoo search queries in the U.S., is specifically for Google's AdSense for Search service. In other words, Yahoo would be acting as one of the Web publishers that carry pay-per-click text ads from Google. The ads will appear only in Yahoo.com.

"This would make the market far less competitive, in sharp contrast to our own proposal to acquire Yahoo. We will assess closely all of our options," said Brad Smith, Microsoft's general counsel, in a statement.

Tags: web, internet, search, business, yahoo, microsft, google

<clipSource>http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/144346/yahoo_to_test_google_search_ads.html</clipSource>

Google still kicking Yahoo and Microsoft's ass!

clipped by: egoldstein
clipper's remarks: The part I actually find most surprising is that over 40% of the U.S. search market doesn't use Google. So he tries mental tricks. One is to ask “what can we take away to create something new?” A decade ago, you could have started with Yahoo! and taken away all the clutter around the search box to get Google. When he took Blogger and took away everything except one 140-character line, he had Twitter. Radical constraints, he believes, can lead to breakthroughs in simplicity and entirely new things.

Tags: innovation, entrepreneurship

<clipSource>http://www.economist.com/research/articlesBySubject/displayStory.cfm?story_id=10328123&subjectID=348975&fsrc=nwl&emailauth=%2528%2528%2520%253E4A03FZPH%2520%250A</clipSource>

Terry Semel resigns as CEO of Yahoo!

clipped by: egoldstein
clipper's remarks: This is big. Green, users can commit to a range of various actions that will reduce their own environmental impact: installing a programmable thermostat, installing a CFL in a porch light, air-drying clothes in the Spring and Summer, etc.

Tags: yahoo!, green, eco-friendly, environment

<clipSource>http://www.greenoptions.com/blog/2007/05/14/yahoo_launches_yahoo_green</clipSource>

Gmail Users are Younger, Richer, Good in Bed

clipped by: kwonsu

Clip Source: mashable.com

Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the latest stats show that Gmail users skew younger and richer than those on Yahoo Mail and Hotmail.

However, Yahoo Mail and Hotmail are still much bigger by comparison, says Hitwise: Yahoo had 13x the market share, and Hotmail had 6x the marketshare of Gmail.

The good news, if you’re a Gmail user, is that you may be part of the elite: while Yahoo and Hotmail users are decidedly average, Gmail users tend to be young, have a high income, and be early adopters of technology. 54% of users are between 18 and 34, while 18% have an average annual household income between $100,000 and $149,999 (compared to 15% for Hotmail and 13% for Yahoo Mail). Another stat, probably related to the young age of GMail users: they’re more likely to be Facebook users than those on the other services.

As for performance in the bedroom - well, we kinda lied. In fact, the stats show that solitary Gmail users are far more likely to Google themselves.

Tags: gmail, yahoo

<clipSource>http://mashable.com/2007/05/10/gmail-users-are-younger-richer-good-in-bed/</clipSource>

Microsoft getting serious about buying Yahoo!

clipped by: egoldstein
clipper's remarks: Maybe, just maybe, the recent "losses" to Google in acquiring DoubleClick and YouTube were Microsoft's way of goading Google into acquiring those companies so that Microsoft could more easily acquire Yahoo without any anti-trust problems.
