Is Palin confusing earmarks with clipmarks?

clipper's remarks: In trying to resolve the difference between her actions and her words when it comes to earmarks, i'm thinking that she may be confusing earmarks with Clipmarks.

To the best of my knowledge, Palin has never supported Clipmarks. So, maybe that's what she's referring to and the word "ear" just keeps magically replacing the "clip".

Cause the facts sure seem to suggest that she supported earmarks before she decided to say she didn't.

In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in earmarks, and in a Fairbanks newspaper column earlier this year, she wrote that federal monies, including earmarks, are “incredibly important” to the state. Palin also helped secure millions of dollars in federal money for her hometown of Wasilla while she was mayor.

Nevertheless, Palin told the outdoor audience in Ohio — many of whom came out in spite of the rain – that she was a champion of earmark reform in Alaska.

Unfortunately, we have recently become increasingly concerned that the site has become overly antagonistic and inappropriately controlled by a disproportionately loud group of users. In all honesty, we no longer feel that the processes of our site are producing a unique, high quality blend of content. Instead, the magical blending of diverse topics on the Clipmarks home page has seemed to dissolve into a battleground for extremely hostile politically oriented users who are overwhelming the rest of the site. Because of this we are working on making some fundamental changes to the way the Clipmarks site works. We will do our best to make changes that improve the site and will continue to iterate until we are comfortable that it is just right.

I wanted to clip this because it really moved me. It is exactly what i hope Clipmarks can provide for people. Knowing that we have accomplished this for some people gives me great pride and satisfaction.

I could never adequately convey how impressed, inspired and grateful i am for the collective contributions of the people who share the content, thoughts, opinion, passion and perspective that gets mixed together here on clipmarks.com. I think it's truly remarkable.

I have come to discover that Clipmarks is a truly international gathering of individuals who share their personal news from around the world...and by making the clips public, open up a forum for interesting discussion and debate.

I have come to a deeper appreciation and respect for views and opinions other than my own. Whether I agree with them or not is a non-issue.

Various Clippers have provided endless hours of lively topics for discussion in my home.

I have learned some very obscure "tech stuff" that I ordinarily would never have even thought of on my own. I even follow a few Clippers...because they are wickedly funny, insightful, spiritual...mostly because they are just interesting "thinkers".

Over the last year, Clipmarks has become more than just a way to save and reference articles for research. It has become a tool to help me have an open mind.

Clipmarks now available for Firefox 3

clipper's remarks: Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that we released a new version of clipmarks (version 3.5) that supports the just-released Firefox3. We made some real nice improvements to the orange lines so they should more accurately outline elements on the page to clip.

In addition to some new features, our work will primarily focus on accomplishing 3 things:

clipper's remarks: So, last week we went live with Clipmarks 3.0; a HUGE set of new features, functionality and user interface changes. This was definitely the most challenging time we ever experienced, as it literally felt like there were a million pieces to the assemble. Overall, I feel really good about how everything went. That said, there were a few things I wish we handled better. Tonight, we’re introducing the first in a series of updates aimed at improving upon the initial release of V3.0. These are based in large part on amazing feedback we received from our users.

Thank you to everyone for giving us your feedback and caring so much about Clipmarks. We’ve got a lot more coming…

The home page is back to the Classic View. We had tried to change it to a page that was more focused on getting our messaging across, but at the end of the day, we just missed the old home page too much to live without it…it’s back!!

We have redesigned the style and navigation of the site header. There’s no doubt the header was confusing so we gave it another shot. I think this one is much more effective.

When a clipper adds remarks to their clip, the remarks are now shown at the bottom of the clipped content inside the ClipCast. This one is awesome!!

On Facebook, we made a number of design changes to our app, including showing you which one of your friends popped a clip when you’re looking at the Pops by My Friends ClipCast.

We’re currently having a problem displaying video in ClipCasts, so for now, we have added a link that will take you to the video.

We worked out a ton of other issues that are each too small to get into here, but that together make Clipmarks a much steadier ship.

Clipmarks doesn't report news, Clipmarks is news, Clippers aren't reporters, they are witnesses.

Clippers are people. They're not followers, or leaders necessarily, they'd just like to know what is going on in the world. The world being such a convoluted place, clipmarks is a filter that can be used to help distinguish between facts and urban myths.

clipper's remarks: Although I've always enjoyed using clipmarks as a tool to research social trends and ideologies, with Clipcast, Clipmarks is rapidly becoming a subject worthy of such research itself.

Consider this: The effect of making Clipmarks (and it's community of ardent followers) mobile, and capable of organizing in more than one internet context is remarkably similar to the way in which Islam spread over much of South and South Eastern Asia.

For those who are interested, I heartily suggest reading Richard Eaton's "The Rise of Islam on the Bengal Frontier." I've clipped its thesis here. It is one of the most interesting and insightfully approaches to understanding the interaction between social and ideological groups. It goes well beyond the coarse but popular theories of war and mercantilism in explaining the reason for Islamic success in a part of the world that America has failed miserably at influencing.

Here's why I like clipcast: it broadens the clipmarks community. I love my clip-friends, but I have other friends out there in the real world. I also like talking with them about what I read, and although I have convinced some of them to come over to clipmarks, I have to say this makes clipmarks much more accessible and a useful tool for communication with people in the outside world.

Using the clipcast, we can spread this thoughtful medium to other sites on the web, and hopefully bring a little bit of civility as we go!

Another reason to put clipcasts on your websites is that it helps you manage your different internet identities.

Clip casts are the solution. I can create a separate clipcast for Facebook, one that reflects the part of my clips that fit with the social aspect of my persona that is established there.

Clipmarks brings out the best in the internet, but a few well organized clip casts will bring out the best in Clipmarks

One of the first social communities I joined was Clipmarks, a social network based upon finding, saving and discussing specific pieces of news and website content. I was hooked immediately-- not only because it allowed me to "clip" and save content from websites better than del.icio.us, but because the entire team at Clipmarks are active participants and really care about the community.

The widget isn't just my profile picture with my last clip and a link to the Clipmarks site, it is a interactive slideshow of all my clips. It's a widget of great value to the user and viewer and is not just to drive traffic to the Clipmarks site, unlike lots of other widgets I've had and seen.
