I can't imagine how making their own 10 tonne bricks in moulds would have made things any easier. Maybe just adding another stage to a process that was already a huge undertaking.
I also heard once that after something is build it hasto 'settle' into into it's foundations, Very few builders or architects have been able to find a way to overcome this, but with their weight, and perfect seams with no mortar, the pyramids have only settled a fraction - perhaps a few inches, over thousands of years.
Something that seems much more likely with solid rock than bricks.
If only the library in Alexandria hadn't burned down with all of the blueprints.

Clip Source: www.abc.net.au

Jennifer Viegas

Many of Egypt's most famous monuments, such as the Sphinx and Cheops pyramid at Giza, contain hundreds of thousands of marine fossils, according to a new study.

Were Egypt's great ancient monuments carved from stone or cast like concrete? New fossil evidence, found intact and embedded in the monument walls, reignites the debate

Most of the fossils are intact and preserved in the monument walls, giving clues to how the monuments were built.

The authors suggest the stones that make up the Giza plateau, Fayum and Abydos monuments must have been carved out of natural stone as they reveal what chunks of the sea floor must have looked like over 4000 years ago, when the buildings were erected.

Liritzis and his team argue that the large building stones used to construct the monuments must have been carved out of natural stone instead of cast in moulds.

n2sooners

Clip Source: digital-photography-school.com

I live in the county of Devon in the UK and love being on Dartmoor and even though I can only get around using a wheelchair I am restricted to the lanes and roads.

I am also a photographer and as you will see I can still, with a lot of patience, find a pleasing picture.

Often I see the possibility of a really good photo but it would mean being able to get out of the car, over a gate, cross a stream, stoop, squat, bend to take it. But the frustration disappears when I see at my eye-level such a warm picture as the lock on the gate at Widecombe church, or in the churchyard the snowdrops.

Thanks must go to my companion who accompanies me on my Dartmoor trips, who heaves the wheelchair in and out of the boot and puts up with my grumpiness when a cow looks the wrong way or a sheep runs off into the mist.

All my photos are taken from my car window or wheelchair and I will be 70 this year. If I can do it so can you. So, get out there, be bold and “snap” away.

Hebes is described as an enclosed trough, with a high, flat-top mountain range right in the centre. The canyon is over 8 km deep in places, and the central mountain ascends to this height, at the same level as the surrounding plains

Clip Source: esamultimedia.esa.int

Clip Source: esamultimedia.esa.int

Clip Source: www.universetoday.com

3D anaglyph image of the canyon (1.6 MB .jpg) This breathtaking 3D landscape was constructed with high definition images taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA's Mars Express orbiter. The new observations show Hebes Chasma, a strange mountain region nested inside the canyon, with channel-like fingers reaching out into the Martian landscape. The imaged region shows features down to a resolution of 15 meters per pixel, an awe-inspiring view… in stereo!
He convened the first Appalachian Trail "conference" in Washington, D.C., in 1925. That gathering of hikers, foresters, and public officials embraced the goal of building the A.T. Currently, the A.T. goes from Maine to Georgia, but there is a movement to extend the A.T. to attach to the existing Alabama Pinhoti trail.

Such a move would require an act of Congress: to change the wording of the National Trails System Act of 1968 to include Alabama. But --- it is not that easy when you take into consideration Georgia. An extension could siphon hikers and their tourist dollars away.

I think that an extension would carry on Mackaye's original vision: He envisioned the A.T. as a path interspersed with planned wilderness communities where people could go to renew themselves. An extension into Alabama would only expand this wilderness escape and national treasure.

Clip Source: www.appalachiantrail.org

Clip Source: www.appalachiantrail.com

Clip Source: www.appalachiantrail.org

Maine

Clip Source: www.appalachiantrail.org

<img src="http://clipmarks.com/image_cache/urbanlife/512/A0E96DAD-553C-4941-A1A2-87F7A6617166.jpg" alt="Mt. Just like there's not one color or one flower or one vegetable or one fingerprint. There is not one that is to be the right one over all others. The variety is what fosters the creativity. And so you say, "Okay, I accept that there's lots of variety, but I don't like to eat cucumbers." Don't eat cucumbers. But don't ask them to be eliminated and don't condemn those who eat them. Don't stand on corners waving signs trying to outlaw the things that you don't like. Don't ruin your life by pushing against. Instead, say, "I choose this instead. Some have even caused scientists to question the history of human civilization.

<clipSource>http://weburbanist.com/2007/09/12/underwater-urban-archeology-7-submerged-wonders-of-the-world/</clipSource>
