Thank you to Biko Baker of League of Young Voters, who I once interviewed and was immediately impressed by. Thank you to Saul Alinsky, largely considered the father of community organizing (pictured above). Thank you to all of you I don't know, who every day, make the choice to listen to ordinary people's stories and help them link these stories into a template for honest-to-goodness social change.

And, yes, thank you to Barack Obama, for making the choice to be a community organizer so many years ago and for continuing to be proud and loud about the importance of the role of the community organizer for our nation's well-being.

Clip Source: www.feministing.com

Thank You Thursdays: Community Organizers

Thank you to all the community organizers, past and present, who have recognized the ways in which the personal is the political, hearing--in the individual stories of ordinary people--a common thread of struggle deserving of action and resolution. Thank you to those who jump started whole movements (feminism, civil rights, labor) with their audacity and daily, hourly, minute-by-minute courage to knock on doors, sit down with friends and strangers alike, educate, and most of all, listen. Thank you to the community organizers who have targeted environmental racism--making sure that folks aren't poisoned in their own neighborhoods just because they don't have the resources to fight back. Thank you to the community organizers who have targeted civil rights, educational failures, classism, racism, sexism, ableism etc. etc.

Tags: republicans hate poor powerless people

<clipSource>http://www.feministing.com/</clipSource>

Bwaaaaaahaaaahaaahaaaaa...!

clipped by: dulios
clipper's remarks: Speak it, brother!

Clip Source: voices.washingtonpost.com

Rick Davis, campaign manager for John McCain's presidential bid,

"This election is not about issues," said Davis.

Tags: the republican party is officially bankrupt

<clipSource>http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2008/09/mccain_manager_this_election_i.html?hpid=topnews</clipSource>

Republicans Launch Sexist Attack on Sarah Palin

clipped by: dulios
clipper's remarks: This is the definition of "not getting it'.

Clip Source: www.thestar.com

Shortly after the news conference, the McCain campaign unveiled a new button in the Xcel Center, touting Palin as "The Hottest VP."

Tags: republicans, mccain, palin, sexism

<clipSource>http://www.thestar.com/News/USElection/article/490348</clipSource>

Peggy Noonan, Reagan Speechwriter: Palin Pick is "Political Bullsh*t"

clipped by: dulios
clipper's remarks: Caught on tape: Noonan, former McCain adviser, and Chuck Todd on Palin pick. A campaign official for the Virginia Lieutenant Governor cancelled an order for 150 guidebooks to entertainment in Minneapolis-St. Paul after discovering they included a 6-8 page section for gay and lesbian nightclubs.

"Having a section dedicated solely to GLBT will be a BIG problem for many of our folks. We simply can't hand them out," wrote the aide, Melissa Busse, in an email to the guidebook publisher, Rake Publishing, obtained by ABC affiliate KSTP.

In a statement, Virginia Lt. Gov Bolling said he was sorry the cancellation occurred "and wish it had not happened." He said the delegation would reimburse the publisher for his costs.

The Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has announced that her
17-year-old daughter is pregnant, in an announcement intended to knock down
rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up
 for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about
five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father,
the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican
 presidential candidate John McCain.

Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy
when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate,
deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.

Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain's health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. (Hospital emergency rooms by law cannot turn away a patient in need of immediate care.)

"So I have a solution. And it will cost not one thin dime," Mr. Goodman said. "The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American – even illegal aliens – as uninsured. Instead, the bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment should they need care.

"So, there you have it. By a narrow 41% to 35% margin, men said she was not ready to be president -- but women soundly rejected her, 48% to 25%.

Only 9% of Obama supporters said they might be more likely to vote for McCain.

Overall, voters expressed a favorable impression of her by a 53/26 margin, but there was a severe gender gap on this: Men embraced her at 58% to 23%, while for women it was 48/30.

And by a 29/44 margin, men and women together, they do not believe that she is ready to be President.

Tags: palin, rasmussen, gallup, men, women, democrats, obama

<clipSource>http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003844485</clipSource>
