Above, two baby orangutans jus chillin’ at the Infant Care Unit on Orangutan Island. The center houses 23 baby orangutans who have been abused or rejected by their mother. You know which mother would never reject these guys? This mother. Because if the following animal ever miraculously came outta me, I would swaddle it and coddle it and probably crush it on accident due to my overwhelming affection for it:

It could only happen in Vegas — a canine competition taken to the max. Poodles in the super ‘bling bling’ creative grooming mash-up — the zenith of the Super Groom 2007 in Las Vegas — were sculpted with sheers, bleached, braided, beaded, feathered and fluffed, most beyond anything recognizable from their former selves.

Pooches got their freak on painted with Blo Pens — markers that simulate the effects of airbrushing — using non-toxic temporary food dyes. Super Groom 2007 saw 15 dogs transformed into everything from a Harley Doggyson to brightly colored butterflies, feathered Indian chiefs, and pirates at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas.

The cellist Yo-Yo Ma, who was asked by the inauguration committee to organize the performance, invited three illustrious colleagues to join him: the renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman; the superb young clarinetist Anthony McGill, a principal player in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (and among the few black artists to hold a principal chair in a major orchestra); and the fiery Venezuelan-American pianist Gabriele Montero. The intrepid performers had to cope with performing outdoors in temperatures hovering in the mid-20s. Ms. Montero, especially, looked to be freezing and wore woolen gloves with the fingers removed. But they all managed remarkably well.

He got the mood right, I thought, in this contemplative occasional piece.

Set in an alternate world of mad science, Zeppelins, and mechanical servants called "clanks," our hero, Agatha Heterodyne must navigate a feudal landscape of power hungry Barons and criminals who seek to enslave her for talent with all things mechanical and sciencey.

There are strong female characters throughout, the writing is clever and quick, and the pages are beautifully inked and colored.

The Christian Right Killed the Republican Party

Those who are right-wing Christians -- anti-abortion, anti-feminism, anti-gay, anti-evolution, anti-taxes, pro-gun, and pro-deregulation -- and who are willing to ignore or justify massive governmental debt, corporate welfare, bank nationalization, unjustified war, falling markets, depleted retirement accounts, record foreclosures, government spying, broken treaties, torture, the impingement of a free press, the subversion of the First Amendment, the hiding of official records, the missing millions from Halliburton, and more - are patriotic. Everyone else is not.

Barry Goldwater once said that he was "sick and tired of the political preachers" that tried to dictate his morality.

split a diverse, multi-cultural country into "pro-America" and "anti-America" factions have left little doubt who is to be considered patriotic and who is not.

I'm glad the photographer was there to capture these images. Whether he makes president or not, I believe Mr. Obama will go on to be an influential world leader.

I made this picture in October of 2006 during the Illinois State races. Just three of us in a car: Senator Obama, a friend of his who was driving and me. I don't think you could make this picture now. He had stopped at a rest area along the back roads of Illinois.There are no Secret Service agents, no staff, no motorcade or traveling press corps. It is a sharp contrast to the 200,000-person crowd that greeted Obama in Berlin less than two years later.

From the early days of 2006, people in Iowa turned out for events with Obama. I knew he could win the state. People of all races, income levels and ages would show up en masse. This continued throughout 2007 and 2008. Burlington, Iowa, 11/7/2007.

Two staffers had just passed this site and done two pull-ups. Not to be outdone, Obama did three with ease, dropped and walked out to make a speech. Missoula, Mont., 4/5/2008.

This moment was rare and you could tell they just loved being able to sit together.
