You do not have to be gay, lesbian, or bisexual, or know someone who is, to be negatively affected by homophobia. Though homophobia actively oppresses gay men, lesbians, and bisexuals, it also hurts heterosexuals.

Inhibits the ability of heterosexuals to form close, intimate relationships with members of their own sex, for fear of being perceived as lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB).

Locks people into rigid gender-based roles that inhibit creativity and self expression.

Compromises human integrity by pressuring people to treat others badly, actions that are contrary to their basic humanity.

Inhibits appreciation of other types of diversity, making it unsafe for everyone because each person has unique traits not considered mainstream or dominant. We are all diminished when any one of us is demeaned.

By challenging homophobia, people are not only fighting oppression for specific groups of people, but are striving for a society that accepts and celebrates the differences in all of us.

Read that again. He's saying it today, the fifth anniversary of a war that in his own words means we were losing four out of those five years.

For those who, like Bill O'Reilly, who ask for proof that the President had lied, now have it. From his own mouth.

For the first four years, he was LYING.

If the President is not lying now and my math is right, that means he lied for 80% of the war.

But even if he is telling the truth now, it's a truth that is nauseatingly offensive.

Mr. President...Are you saying your wholesale mismanagement of this war makes all the lives and treasures lost still "necessary"?

When journalist Brian Alexander set out to investigate how Americans have sex, he didn't expect to be studying it through the lens of technology.

It turns out that Americans are not nearly as Puritanical, frightened, angry or perturbed as the religious groups and politicians waging the war on sex would have you believe.

Over and over again, Alexander's subjects told him that the internet had opened their eyes, dispelled their fears, given them new avenues for pleasure, and provided support as they figured out what they really wanted from sex.

(In the book, he confesses to reaching a point where he simply refuses to allow one more person to gush about the internet. "Isn't it possible," he muses, "that we're just bored?")

Rebate Letters To Cost 42 million

At a cost of nearly $42 million, the IRS wants you to know: Your check is almost in the mail.

That works out to about 32 cents to print, process and mail each letter. It doesn't include the tab for another round of mailings planned for those who didn't file tax returns last year but may still qualify for a rebate.

Democrats accused the Bush administration of wasting time and postage.

"There are countless better uses for $42 million than a self-congratulatory mailer that gives the president a pat on the back for an idea that wasn't even his," Sen. Charles Schumer said Friday, arguing the IRS could more effectively spend the money to catch tax cheats.

Keith Hennessey, director of the president's National Economic Council, said the letters are being sent to explain how the tax rebates will work.

We all love the Internet and see all the great things it offers, but we all know all the bad things it can do and we hear on the news all the Internet kidnappings and the latest Virus spreading all over, but is the Internet bad or good thing? Is there any real answer to it?

Do you think maybe this is us evolving and becoming more adapted to the world around us? With all the RSS readers and big companies taking over the Internet like Google are we creating some new type of country and new Law? I

We also see some people become addicted to the Internet, Kids playing online games and spending their whole lives becoming someone they are not, afraid to go out in the read world as their life online is much more respected then their own in the real world.

You'd hardly know I was ill if you were to look at me. I go out with my friends, have a drink, travel, work, all the things everyone else does.

I have cystic fibrosis. It's an incurable, genetic disease, where sufferers have thick mucus clogging their lungs.

Instead, I have lived life to the full - parties, travel and romance. I love new sports and I've been whitewater-rafting, tandem sky-diving and bungee-jumping in Australia. I know I've got a lot to pack in.

At school I was puzzled by my friends' obsessions with trivia. You're unhappy with your hair? Really? Oddly, I've become more girly in adulthood.

In my mid-20s, however, I was asked out on dates by men who didn't know me so well.

One man reacted in a bizarre way. He said he felt he'd been cursed, falling for someone who was ill. So cystic fibrosis has one advantage - it sifts out the nice guys from the idiots.

Mark Twain said: "I can live for two months on a good compliment." All of us crave for positive affirmations in life, especially affirmations from those who matter. Praise has a strong power over our performance, effectiveness and happiness. We become what we are encouraged to become. People influence and inspire us by their words.

We are afraid of criticisms both just and unjust ones. We protest against unjust remarks but accept very gladly unearned applause. There are some of us who glow in the toil and labour of others. We do nothing to earn praises by ourselves but grab the praises from others.

When people are appreciated they become more positive and productive and they lead a happy life. Innovation and creativity will flourish only in the absence of fear.

Praise from others is the nourishment for our desire for self-esteem.

I truly believe that America’s churches could turn the world toward peace if every church lived and taught as Jesus lived and taught.

How to deal with people who threaten us (in the serious, hard cases called enemies), individually and collectively, is the most difficult and enduring question of human existence. Do we overpower and destroy them by whatever means necessary? Do we flee from them in fear? Or is there another way, a third way, of dealing with seriously threatening people? According to Jesus, there is. He lived and taught another way, the way of non-violence, and the church could well be expected to understand and demonstrate that way with its own life and teaching. But does it? Has it, over the centuries, shown anything better than the fight or flight responses to enemies?

BOSTON — A convicted sex offender was arrested this week and charged with raping a 6-year-old boy in the New Bedford public library, feet away from his mother, who was working on a computer.

The police said Mr. Saunders lured the boy into the library’s book shelves on Wednesday. “He sees the little boy and asks him if he can show him something,” said Lt. Jeffrey Silva of the New Bedford Police Department. “The little boy thought he was going to show him a book in there.”

Lieutenant Silva said a librarian noticed Mr. Saunders speaking to the boy after the alleged rape. The librarian remembered Mr. Saunders’s name from a previous encounter, he said, and looked him up on the state’s sexual offender registry. When Mr. Saunders’s name came up, the librarian approached the boy’s mother and called the police.
