CEDARBURG, Wisc. -- Hundreds of angry people in this small town outside Milwaukee taunted reporters and TV crews traveling with Sen. John McCain on Friday, chanting "Be fair!" and pointing fingers at a pack of journalists as they booed loudly.

the 30 or so reporters and crew were walking back to their buses to join the McCain motorcade when hundreds of townspeople started yelling.

"Stop lying! You are all liars! Tell the truth!"

The crowd was not menacing or threatening, but was clearly angry.

"I think the press is very liberal and very slanted against the McCain-Palin ticket. Would you ask a man if his kids were being taken care of while he's out campaigning?"

"The media has called her a sexy librarian look. Would you say that Obama is a sexy Will Smith look?

Unfortunately, we have recently become increasingly concerned that the site has become overly antagonistic and inappropriately controlled by a disproportionately loud group of users. In all honesty, we no longer feel that the processes of our site are producing a unique, high quality blend of content. Instead, the magical blending of diverse topics on the Clipmarks home page has seemed to dissolve into a battleground for extremely hostile politically oriented users who are overwhelming the rest of the site. Because of this we are working on making some fundamental changes to the way the Clipmarks site works. We will do our best to make changes that improve the site and will continue to iterate until we are comfortable that it is just right.

But there is another — quite different — result of all this incessant updating: a culture of people who know much more about themselves. Many of the avid Twitterers, Flickrers and Facebook users I interviewed described an unexpected side-effect of constant self-disclosure. The act of stopping several times a day to observe what you’re feeling or thinking can become, after weeks and weeks, a sort of philosophical act. It’s like the Greek dictum to “know thyself,” or the therapeutic concept of mindfulness. (Indeed, the question that floats eternally at the top of Twitter’s Web site — “What are you doing?” — can come to seem existentially freighted. What are you doing?) Having an audience can make the self-reflection even more acute, since, as my interviewees noted, they’re trying to describe their activities in a way that is not only accurate but also interesting to others: the status update as a literary form.

Sony recalls 438,000 laptops on burn concern

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Japan's Sony Corp has launched a voluntary recall of 438,000 Vaio portable computers, citing a potential hazard that could cause the machines to overheat or possibly burn a user.

It is one of the biggest computer recalls since 2006 when Dell Inc recalled 4.1 million notebook computer batteries because they could overheat and catch fire.

Sony's recall affects 72,800 computers in the United States, a Sony spokesman said on Thursday.

Jolie posters not "Wanted" in UK, watchdog rules

LONDON (Reuters) - Angelina Jolie might ooze Hollywood glamour, but if she's armed and looking dangerous, the actress is not welcome in Britain.

Britain's media watchdog, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), has banned two posters of Jolie promoting the film "Wanted" after upholding complaints that the images of the gun-toting actress glamorized the use of guns and violence.

ST. PAUL (Reuters) - Republican John McCain promised Americans on Thursday that "change is coming" to Washington if he is elected president on November 4 and he pledged to overcome partisan rancor by working with Democrats.

In a year in which Americans are thirsting for change, McCain sought to co-opt the message of change offered by his Democratic opponent, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

McCain's campaign released excerpts of his speech accepting his party's nomination for president. He was to deliver the speech at about 10:30 p.m. EDT.

Speedy Tropical Storm Hanna charges for Carolinas

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Tropical Storm Hanna cruised toward the Carolinas on Friday, forecast to hit land overnight and promising to deliver gusty winds and heavy rain during a dash up the Eastern Seaboard that could wash out the weekend for millions of people.

Not far behind was a much bigger worry: a ferocious-looking Hurricane Ike, on a path similar to the one taken by Andrew, the Category 5 monster that devastated South Florida in 1992. Ike could hit Florida by the middle of next week.

Emergency officials urged evacuations in only a few spots in the Carolinas and about 400 people went to shelters in both states. Forecasters said there was only a small chance Hanna could become a hurricane, and most people simply planned to stay off the roads until the storm passed.

Those who study the background to the rise of Nazism and the Holocaust may be aware how much of an emphasis Adolph Hitler (yimach shmo v’zicro–may his name and memory be erased), put on speech. In his inciting, yet seminal work, Mein Kampf, he writes:

“The broad masses of the people can be moved only by the power of speech.
All great movements are… volcanic eruptions of human passions and emotional sentiments, stirred …by the firebrand of the word hurled among the masses.” (Mein Kampf, Ch. 3)

He writes elsewhere in the book, “the great masses of the people…will more easily fall victim to a big lie than to a small one.” (Ibid, Ch. 10). Additionally, W. L. Shirer, in his book, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, writes: “the victor will not be asked afterwards whether he told the truth or not. In starting and waging a war it is not right that matters, but victory.” (Ch. 16)
