In these days of transition in Iraq it is important to traverse the mine field of rhetoric on both the Left and the Right and find a reasonable balance. Not a balance that equalizes the rhetoric, but one that accurately predicts the future.

This is not the first time the US has invaded and “Occupied” a country

The three areas the US abandoned – Cuba, North Korea and Vietnam are all Communist states. The only remaining Communists states in the world.

Even Vietnam that has a firm economic footing today lags behind the place it probably would have been had the US developed better and more effective anti-insurgent techniques.

Germany, Japan and Korea were all occupied countries. Each one still has US troops providing protection. Each was criticized as a failure at the time. And each one drew internal protest.

The US occupied Cuba, Puerto Rico, Gram, The Philippines and Hawaii after the Spanish American War.

Imagine that on the morning of September 12, 2001, the shocked national political leadership in both parties had understood the necessity to take a deep, long look at the Irreconcilable Wing of Islam.

Imagine that the President and Congressional leaders on a bipartisan basis had mandated a series of public hearings on the scale of the radical Wahhabist financing from sources in Saudi Arabia, the degree of Iranian and Syrian support for terrorism, the various propagandizing and recruiting efforts that were underway to attract terrorists at a rate faster than we could kill or imprison them.

Imagine that on September 12, 2001 the news media had begun a series of informative, in-depth explorations of the Iranian war against America

With this starting context, an alternative history might well have played out

The key debate for the next year ought to be the larger war, the real enemies, the need for a real strategy, and solutions to the scale of the challenge we face.

DNA confirms Russain czar mystery

DNA tests carried out by a U.S. laboratory prove that remains exhumed last year belong to two children of Czar Nicholas II, putting to rest questions about what happened to Russia's last royal family, a regional governor said Wednesday.

The bone fragments dug up are those of Crown Prince Alexei and his sister, Maria, whose remains had been missing since the family was murdered in 1918 as Russia descended into civil war, said Eduard Rossel, governor of the Sverdlovsk region.

North Korea never attacked us.

John F. Kennedy (DEMOCRAT) started our involvement in
the Vietnam conflict in 1962.
Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson (DEMOCRAT) turned Vietnam into a quagmire.
From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost ..
an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton (DEMOCRAT) went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.
Bosnia never attacked us .
He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three
times by the Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on
multiple occasions.
