Remember the Boston Massacre? That was a protest and we would not be here as Americans without that act of protest. We taunted the British into violence and even into killing to garner support for the cause. Now you get arrested for holding a sign. If the DNC had any balls they would invite the homeless in and ask them what there "American Dream" is.

Organization reiterates plan for homeless during DNC

DENVER – The coalition tasked with ending homelessness in Denver says it is not offering movie tickets and zoo passes to the homeless during the Democratic National Convention.

It will, however, continue its regular practice of offering bus tokens to homeless people who need them.

Officials with Denver's Road Home program say this week they have been receiving a lot of requests from homeless people who heard reports of those tickets being given away. The reports stem from a story on a hair salon that offered free haircuts to the homeless on Monday. The owners of that salon originally came up with the idea after seeing reports in July about a possible plan to give away tickets and open an emergency shelter for the homeless during the convention.

Soon after those stories surfaced, officials with the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless issued a statement, saying they have no intentions to "hide the homeless."

Russian forces dig in at Georgian port despite promise to withdraw

Russian forces dug trenches and built fortifications in key areas of Georgia Thursday, but also rolled columns of tanks north toward home, picking and choosing how their nation would comply with the terms of a peace accord.

A top Russian general said it could be more than 10 days before the bulk of the troops return to Russia.

Although Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has promised that his forces would pull back as far as separatist Ossetia and a surrounding zone by Friday, Russian troops appeared to be in no hurry — even settling down in strategic spots. This raised concerns about whether Moscow was aiming for a lengthy occupation of its smaller, pro-Western neighbor.

SANTA CRUZ - The Boulder Creek man accused of neglecting dozens of dogs remains in County Jail this morning, despite a judge's order that he be released if he follows three rules outlined in court.

"He's refusing to sign the conditions the judge imposed on him yesterday," prosecutor Heather Jones said.

Brunette was granted conditional, supervised freedom after his preliminary hearing Monday afternoon.

Judge William Kelsay told Brunette he had to call into Pretrial Services every three days to check in, not possess or care for any dogs and allow law enforcement officers to search his property for dogs at any time.

Animal Services officers have confiscated 51 puppies and dogs from the hilly, rural land since late July, when they responded to a neighbor's complaint about dogs crying at all hours of the day and night. Most of the dogs suffer from several ailments, including worms, severe flea problems, skin infections and being malnourished.

Melting ice uncovered a hoax this week, as the "Bigfoot" found in a Georgia woods turned out to be . . . a rubber Halloween costume.

Bigfoot hunters Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer had tossed their find in a freezer and frozen it in a solid chunk of ice - to preserve it, they said. The two men finally turned over the freezer and on August 17, Bigfoot enthusiasts waited with bated breath as the apparent body slowly defrosted.

After hours of waiting, a dark patch of hair emerged. Steve Kulls, Executive Director of Squatchdetective.com, told Fox that he extracted a hair sample and burned it. It was apparently made of synthetic fibers and "melted into a ball uncharacteristic of hair," Kulls said. An hour later, the group's fears were confirmed when further melting revealed a rubber foot.

As of Tuesday, the two Georgia men who perpetrated the hoax were nowhere to be found.

Neighbors had complained for two years about Hinton, gal pal Kerry Norris and their noisy romps at her flat. Now the courts have banned Hinton from going within 100 meters of Norris' one-bedroom pad.

An Indian man, presumed dead after being trampled, surprised local morgue workers when he sat up and asked for a glass of water. Mange Ram was brought to the hospital along with 150 other dead people after widespread panic about a landslide caused hundreds of people to flee a Hindu festival, trampling whoever was in their way.

Mange was brought to the morgue at Anandpur Sahib Civil Hospital and was waiting for the doctors to examine his “post-mortem” body.

“My throat was parched and I asked for water,” Ram told The Times of India. “Towering over me, the doctors and nursing staff looked dazed. They must have been surprised to see a dead man come alive like that.”

Scientists one step closer to invisibility cloak

Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, have demonstrated for the first time the ability to cloak three dimensional objects, bringing us one step closer to an invisibility cloak. Previously, scientists have only been able to cloak very thin two-dimensional objects.

Normally, people see objects because the visible light scatters around objects and reflecting them to our eyes. The cloak would consist of metamaterials that can bend visible light around objects without reflecting the light or creating shadows.

The research was partially funded by the U.S. Army and the National Science Foundation’s Nano-Scale Science and Engineering Center.

CHICAGO, Illinois -- A man who contends he got a 9-foot tapeworm after eating undercooked fish has sued a Chicago restaurant.

In the lawsuit filed Monday, Anthony Franz said he ordered salmon salad for lunch from Shaw's Crab House in 2006 and fell violently ill. He later passed the giant parasite, which a pathologist determined came from undercooked fish, such as salmon.

Franz's lawsuit seeks $100,000 from Shaw's and its parent company, Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, contending the restaurant's staff was negligent in serving him improperly cooked fish.

But Carrol Symank, vice president of food safety for Lettuce Entertain You, said the tapeworm didn't come from Shaw's.

"We have done a thorough investigation, and we're confident the restaurant is not the source," he said.

According to the Web site mayoclinic.com, tapeworms can measure up to 50 feet long.

The attacks occurred four days after a customer at Caffe Pergolesi, a downtown Santa Cruz coffeehouse, found fliers listing the names, home addresses, home phone numbers and photos of thirteen UC-Santa Cruz vivisectors. Police believe unidentified animal rights activists created the fliers, which were made to appear as "wanted posters." The fliers warned: "Animal abusers everywhere beware; we know where you live; we know where you work; we will never back down until you end your abuse."

: The home of one UC Santa Cruz vivisector and the automobile of another were burned early Saturday, in what local authorities are calling attacks by animal liberationists. No communiques claiming the actions have yet been received by the North American Animal Liberation Press Office as of Sunday afternoon.

On August 4th, at the main entrance to UC Santa Cruz, faculty members held a demonstration in support of their colleagues who were targeted with firebombs on August 2nd in what authorities are calling attacks by animal liberationists. Corporate news reporters, and their flock of more than ten white vans, were all over the scene to quickly sensationalize the story.

An email sent by a UCSC faculty member calling for the demonstration, which was organized in less than 24 hours, states, "Regardless of one's personal views on research involving animals, this has now become a very different kind of discourse, about more fundamental aspects of society."

Barbara Chemers, a Psychologist at UCSC, said, "We have to stand behind our faculty and scientists. We need the research they are doing. It's a complicated issue not to be solved with violence."

"Using violence shuts down active debate instead of opening it up. I can't condone the use of violence to advance a cause."

I received this email letter this morning from someone HFH, it's supporters and many others have helped through a recent health crises. All these people deserve credit as well as the person who wrote the letter below. Facing such crisis is harder than many may think when you are uninsured, cannot work, and suddenly disabled.

I post it not to inflate what I do, which is limited these days. But to show that when you make an effort, others do too, and this is a testimony to just that. So if your friend can't pay rent, throw a rent party. If you help, others will too. Were all in this together.

shortly after 6am, police from multiple agencies raided the protest encampment at 11th and D Streets. About 16 protesters sat in a circle, locking arms. A large crowd formed across the street. About 20 of those locked arms and chanted. A girl was arrested at about 8:45, when she approached the police and started talking to them. Then police began to pull protesters from the circle and drag them to a van. One handcuffed protester went into a seizure, while police held him face down on the street. The crowd was disturbed by the police conduct, leading at least one onlooker to cross the street and get arrested. A press release put out by the city appears to be full of distortions and incorrect assertions. I am outraged by their dishonesty

The Hoopa Valley Tribe rejected the latest draft of the Klamath River Basin Restoration Agreement (KRBRA) released today because the agreement lacks adequate water assurances for fish.

"Hoopa will retain its rights to defend the Klamath," said Clifford Lyle Marshall, Tribal Chairman. "We will work with any and all parties to remove the dams and assure a restored healthy river."

Hoopa, Calif. – The Hoopa Valley Tribe of northern California will not endorse
the latest draft of the Klamath River Basin Restoration Agreement (KRBRA) because the
agreement lacks adequate water assurances for fish. Despite being in the minority among
the negotiators, Tribal Chairman Clifford Lyle Marshall said Hoopa would never waive
its fishery-based water rights, as demanded by federal and other negotiators, in a deal

providing no assurances for fisheries restoration.
