I saw a TV demo of this machine long ago but for some reason it has become almost impossible to find information on this Japanese invention.

Is it possible to create a sonic washing machine which cleans the laundry by bombarding it with soundwaves? It would be similar to the machines used in hospitals which use soundwaves to break up kidney stones. The sound waves would break down grease and dirt and leave the laundry clean and fresh without the need for water or detergents.

The UltraBattery is a hybrid energy storage device that integrates a supercapacitor with a lead acid battery in one unit cell

UltraBattery applications include implementation in hybrid electric vehicles and smoothing the intermittency of wind-generated power.

The UltraBattery offers a number of advantages over conventional car batteries:

cycle life is four times longer

50 per cent more power than lead acid batteries counterparts

approximately 70 per cent less expensive than current HEV battery systems

faster charge and discharge rates.

Field tests for the wind energy storage application are being conducted at the CSIRO Energy Centre in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

A similar application is expected to be developed for solar energy production.

To me, the most frightening horror of World War II is that many Germans sat idly by, while their leaders stomped all over Europe and slaughtered innocent people.

Amazingly, the German people embraced their Führer, or at the very least, they accepted him. It was cool and patriotic to support Hitler. (Close-minded, though.)

So, please take my test. It will measure how blindly patriotic you are, how susceptible to brainwashing you are, and how cunning you are, and then, by applying your attitudes and beliefs in zee German context, determine whether you'd have been a Nazi. Or at least looked the other way.

CitiCAT compressed-air car coming to U.S.

With all the talk about upcoming battery-powered and fuel-cell electric cars, it’s easy to overlook the air car. That’s right, air car.

Now Popular Mechanics reports that a car that runs on compressed air will come to the United States for 2010. Unlike other air-car models being designed for Europe and India, the United States will get a six-passenger, vanlike model called the CitiCAT. Zero Pollution Motors, based in New Paltz, NY, says it will produce up to 10,000 of the models at several plants in the States.

Coming soon: Mitsubishi i-Miev

Mitsubishi has announced it will be bringing the i-Miev electric car to production. The MiEv is a microcar about the size of the Smart but with four doors. The first 1,400 cars will be available via lease to government and corporations in late July. Sales to individuals will begin in April 2010, but pre-orders will be taken online this summer. The price after conversion from the yen will be about $45,300.

Eastside Catholic High School senior Jessica Terry studied her own tissue samples as part of her school’s BioMedical course.

A high school project to study and report on different tissue diseases became a lot more than a quest for a good grade when one student found the answer to a question that had puzzled her doctors for years.

Eastside Catholic High School senior Jessica Terry was diagnosed as a child with an indeterminable case of either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, but after hours of studying her own tissue samples, she found the answer; a granuloma, or a mass of cells, that signified Crohn's.

"This is something that pathologists had already done for her, had already tested for, and they didn't see it," said Mary Margaret Welch, instructor for Eastside Catholic's BioMedical course. "It's such a remarkable project."

Terry's conclusion came from a histology project, which is the study of tissues, and one of the major focuses of the class
