Angry Father Nails Xbox To Tree

Lest you think this punishment too harsh, the kids' mother -- who by the way posted this story on CNN's ireport Web site -- says the action was appropriate and that the kids don't hate their dad.

Yes, option number three was in order for a Mechanicsville, Va., father, who apparently had enough of his kids' shenanigans/back talk/zombie-like addiction to Halo. Out into the backyard and up onto the tree the Xbox went.

What do you do when your kids get out of hand while playing with their Xbox? Your options are:

A time out.
No dessert.
Nail that Xbox to a tree, dammit!

So Junior wants a Nintendo DS for his birthday, but you spent all of his gift money on the ponies? Not a problem! Your bookie should have no trouble finding you a deal on this Chinese imposter. Just be aware of a few minor differences.

The included hand strap and ear buds are garbage, as is the hinge that joins the two screens. And what about those screens? That's where things get weird. The Neo comes packaged with two randomly selected, low-budget games -- the model in this photo came with 'Soccer' and 'Street Fighter' (yes, 'Street Fighter' is also a fake). The games are actually built right into the two removable screens. You power on the Neo and the top screen plays 'Street Fighter' while the bottom screen plays dead. To play 'Soccer,' you have to turn the unit off and swap the screens. As you'd expect, there's no touchscreen. There isn't even a Luigi.

Hannigan explained that SHOW is plug and play and should work with any video-out capable devices, including laptops, the iPod touch, and some phones. The pocket-size projector.

SHOW needs no external parts. It includes a rechargeable battery and can charge and power via USB cable, as well.

The rechargeable battery on the prototype lasts about an hour and a half, but Hannigan expects the final product's battery to last almost twice as long. Shipping SHOW projectors could sell for between $200 and $300.

Dubbed SHOW, the lensless PicoP projector is designed for the home and business use, and uses tiny lasers to shoot a WVGA (848 by 480, roughly DVD resolution) image on virtually any surface that isn't a dark color or textured. It can even project onto curved and uneven surfaces. So, from a distance of two feet, it could project a two foot diagonal, full-color image on a white T-shirt. From five feet away, it could show a five-foot image on, say, a white wall or ceiling.

Wii bowler beats real bowler in senior videogame tourney

Proving once again that athleticism and real-world experience have little bearing on the outcome of Wii Sports matches, a 79-year-old bowler was defeated by an 84-year-old who'd only recently picked up the game -- virtually -- in their retirement community's latest Nintendo tournament. Obviously a popular pastime among the senior crowd, playing Wii has gotten so big at the 3000-resident Riderwood complex in Montgomery County, Maryland that semi-regular tournies are held in the various events, with underdog Nancy Davies (not pictured) upsetting previous champ Hal Winters (also not pictured) in the most recent excitement-filled Bowling final. When asked to comment on the 202 to 182 stunner, the few other folks who were both awake at the time and able to remember the action agreed that the match was surely one for the record books.

Angry drivers torching traffic cameras in England

Apparently, the Luddite tradition of machine breaking is alive and well in its country of origin. According to a report, a group calling itself MAD -- or Motorists Against Detection -- have taken to setting autonomous traffic cameras ablaze across the United Kingdom, and are detailing their exploits on a website (of course). The group's "PR" claims they have been active since 2000, and have destroyed over 1000 roadside cameras. Says the group's leader, Capt. Gatso, "The vigilante anti-speed camera group have announced a summer of MADness which will see them target for destruction all speed cameras in the UK. It's now going to be a period of zero tolerance against all speed cameras." The gang of disgruntled drivers also plans a day of action called "National Cover-Up Your Number Plates Day." Guy Fawkes would be proud.

Kid gets phone book instead of PS3 for Xmas

It's certainly not the first time we've seen someone open the box to a pricey gadget only to find their hopes and dreams dashed by some unscrupulous individual that's swiped the device and replaced it by something similarly weighted but decidedly cheaper, but it just wouldn't be the holidays if we didn't bring you another account of the same wrong-doings happening again. This latest one comes to us from Thousand Oaks, California where one kid opened the box to the PlayStation 3 he got for Christmas and found a phone book in its place of his desired console. What's more, the PS3 wasn't bought on eBay or out of someone's trunk as you might expect, but at the local EB Games, where the kid's parents are apparently now doing their best to get things sorted out.

Running Mac OS X on a Pocket PC

A Pocket PC enthusiast in Austria installed a VNC client on his PowerBook at home and his Loox 720 VGA Pocket PC and can now run his Mac OS X computer from anywhere in the world. I don't know how fast this is but it sure looks cool to see OS X running in landscape on a Pocket PC.
