In an off-the-record conversation that suddenly went very much on-the-record, Facebook developers were harshing on Google's brand new little darling of a mobile platform. One of the Facebook employees went so far as to call Android vaporware. Don't expect to see a Facebook client for the G1 in the near future.

Only TechCrunch's Michael Arrington would stir up such a war of words. It was Mr. Arrington who was speaking with Facebook employees. One staffer said, "Android sucks, it doesn't matter."

This staffer's opinion is not reflected by any actual policy, public or private, of Facebook to snub Google and Android, but it goes to show you that things aren't so warm and fuzzy between the two companies.

Several blogs are supposing some of the bitterness has to do with Google's support of Facebook competitors such as MySpace, Bebo, and others. Facebook has prevented Google's FriendConnect service from working within Google.

We deeply apologize to all the vegetarians in the crowd, but this was just too grotesque to overlook. We're not exactly sure of the whos, whats, whys, and whens behind all this, but apparently some butcher-to-be found enough spare time (and enough fresh meat) to create a wallet, a set of keys, a 3G-capable cellphone and a 4TB flash drive from raw, tender meat. We don't know what's sadder -- the fact that this isn't the first of its kind, or that there ever was a first of its kind.

iPhone Firmware 2.2 Beta - New Features Revealed

iPhone software 2.2 beta sports UI tweaks; no push

A couple of details have begun to trickle out about iPhone 2.2, the next revision to the iPhone/iPod touch software. According to a piece at AppleInsider, Apple has released beta 1 of firmware 2.2 to developers that features a number of small UI tweaks.

Some naughty developer must have violated their Apple NDA agreement – tsk, tsk.

The Google search field in mobile Safari has been moved to the immediate right of the address bar (pictured). Currently you need to tap the address bar to bring up the Google search field.

Apple has also re-organized the App Store slightly with large category icons. They also made the “Tell a Friend” option more prominent and added an equally prominent “Report a Problem” button – presumably to report tethering and flatulence applications that slip through Apple’s screening process.

Flash Ready For iPhone, Waiting For Apple

The iPhone 3G's Web surfing in unquestionably one of the best mobile browsing experience out there, but the lack of Flash still sticks out like a sore thumb. Well, it appears that Adobe has confirmed that it's working on a Flash Player for Apple's device, but it's just waiting Apple to give it the go-ahead.

At the Flash On The Beach conference, Paul Betlem, senior director of engineering at Adobe Systems, said the company is working on a Flash solution for the iPhone. According to Flash Magazine:

Upon a direct question from the audience, Paul Betlem for the first time publicly confirmed that Adobe is actively developing a Flash Player for Apple's popular phone. He said (not direct quote) "My team is working on Flash on the iPhone, but it's a closed platform." He noted that Apple makes all the decisions, so in other words, the ball is in Apple's yard at this time. If Apple says yes, Adobe will have the player available in a very short time.

Imagine being able to walk into an airport or your office with your notebook and instead of consuming battery, it is recharged. Imagine eliminating that spaghetti of wires behind your desktop PCs. Based on principles proposed by MIT physicists, Intel researchers have been working on a Wireless Resonant Energy Link (WREL).

Rattner demonstrated powering a 60-watt light bulb without the use of a plug or wire of any kind, which is more than is needed for a typical laptop.

The magic of WREL is that it promises to deliver wireless power safely and efficiently. The technology relies on strongly coupled resonators, a principle similar to the way a trained singer can shatter a glass using her voice. At the receiving resonator's natural frequency, energy is absorbed efficiently, just as a glass absorbs acoustic energy at its natural frequency.

With this technology enabled in a laptop, for example, batteries could be recharged when the laptop gets within a metre or two of the transmit resonator.

The internet activist group 'anonymous', famed for its exposure of unethical behavior by the Scientology cult, has now gone after the Alaskan govenor and republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

At around midnight last night some members affiliated with the group gained access to governor Palin's email account "gov.palin@yahoo.com" and handed over the contents to the government sunshine site Wikileaks.org.

Governor Palin has come under media criticism in the past week for using private email accounts to avoid Alaskan freedom of information laws. The contents of the mailbox show this to be true and also hold clues of at least one other Yahoo based mail account held by Palin, "gov.sarah@yahoo.com".

Google Introduces Video Audio Indexing to Labs

In their quest to make everything searchable, Google is now starting to index what is being spoken in video clips, or to be more precise, what is being spoken in YouTube clips. This is done by using speech recognition technology to convert the audio into words which is then indexed into Google search. Then if you want to find a particular video clip or if you want to find out if someone has mentioned a particular subject in a video clip, you can enter keywords into the search engine and be taken to those clips right away (if they exist of course). This is being called Google Audio Indexing.

That’s the theory anyway.

Since GAI is a Labs product at the moment, everything is still a little rusty and doesn’t quite go 100% as planned.

now, Google is limiting the search results to the US presidential elections. After the election is over, they should hopefully expand it to the rest of YouTube, provided the Audio Indexing service works as planned.

Clicking the µTorrent logo in the About subsection of Help will play a synthesized sound
Pressing the T-button on the keyboard when viewing the About subsection of Help will start a game of Tetris
An older version of uTorrent (version 1.3) will show a Christmas eCard when launched on Christmas day

Pornographic phone shocks customer

A customer was shocked to find pornographic images on a mobile phone she had just purchased, even more so when she discovered they were of employees from the store where she had bought it.

The Australian university student was given an ex-demonstration model as it was the last in the Dick Smith Electronics shop, but it later developed a fault with the speaker. It was when searching through the menu options trying to fix the problem that she discovered that 49 images had already been taken

The first was a harmless shot of a female employee outside the store in her uniform, although things soon took an adult turn. One image featured the same female employee, naked from the waist down, performing a sex act.

Cracked Software Found On Authentic Asus Recovery DVD

Our reader isn't the only one to discover strange files on Asus recovery discs. A US poster on

the Asus forums reports finding files including CVs on his recovery disc - click here to see a screengrab of the files.

A contributor to the forums at the Australian APC magazine also reports finding the same software cracker as our reader.

An Asus spokesman has apologised to the customers who found the files. "We will be investigating this at quite a high level," he told PC Pro. "Once the investigation is complete, we will ensure it doesn't happen again."

He was unable comment on how the files got on the disc.

Asus ships software cracker on recovery DVD 1:16PM, Wednesday 17th September 2008

Asus is accidentally shipping software crackers and confidential documents on the recovery DVDs that come with its laptops.

The startling discovery was made by a PC Pro reader whose antivirus software was triggered by a key cracker for the WinRAR compression software, which was located on the recovery DVD for his Asus laptop.

He discovered a number of other suspicious files, including:

* A directory called "Crack" that appears to contain serial numbers for other software packages

* A directory containing a large number of confidential Microsoft documents for PC manufacturers, including associated keys and program files

* Various internal Asus documents and source code for Asus software

The reader sent the disc to PC Pro, and we can confirm the existence of such files.

The key cracker is found in the WinRAR application folder on the recovery disc and is credited to "Freddy Cruger".

iPhone developer makes $250k in two months

Former colleague and iPhoneDevCamp founder Raven Zachary tweeted that Trism developer Steve Demeter reported earning US$250,ooo in revenue since 11 July 2008 during a VC panel at the Mobilize conference.

Trism (iTunes link) is a $5 puzzle game for iPhone and iPod touch that features tilt and touch game play in the spirit of Tetris and Bejeweled.

How Sarah Palin's Yahoo mailbox was so easily hacked

By resetting the password, research and guesswork. So it's time to think about your own "security question," too

Alaska governer Sarah Palin's private Yahoo mailbox was penetrated on Tuesday, and the hacker has explained how easy it was on the 4chan message board, and duly preserved by Kim Zetter at Wired Blogs. It turns out it was much simpler than guessing her password. The hacker simply reset the password, after guessing the security questions using Google to find the information required. He writes:

after the password recovery was reenabled, it took seriously 45 mins on wikipedia and google to find the info, Birthday? 15 seconds on wikipedia, zip code? well she had always been from wasilla, and it only has 2 zip codes (thanks online postal service!)

the second was somewhat harder, the question was "where did you meet your spouse?" did some research, and apparently she had eloped with mister palin after college …
