But we have evolved to excel in one issue: sex. Not regarding sexual activity - as it has been shown that the bonobo (which is also wrongly named "dwarf chimpanzee") has more sex and much varied than the human being - but penis size.

His willy is 9.5 in (24.13 cm) flaccid, 13.5 in (34.29 cm) erect! The average human penis is 6 in (15 cm) long...

                        RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) -
The body of a Brazilian priest
who floated out over the ocean suspended by hundreds of
helium-filled party balloons, has been found off the coast of
southeastern Brazil, police have confirmed.

The corpse of Father Adelir Antonio de Carli was spotted by
a tugboat at sea near the city of Macae, three months after he
disappeared while flying a contraption buoyed by balloons over
the Atlantic Ocean in a fund-raising stunt.

"We were almost certain that it was the priest due to
various elements, such as the clothes and material used in the
balloon trip," Macae's chief of police, Daniel Bandeira, said
on Monday. "The DNA only confirmed our suspicions."

The priest disappeared on April 20 after he called friends
from his mobile phone to say he was about to crash into the
ocean.

He staged the stunt to help raise money for a chapel for
truckers in his highway parish.

Tags: news

<clipSource>http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080730/od_nm/brazil_priest_dc</clipSource>

Music and Torture

clipped by: dakotayii
clipper's remarks: I don't have to be a prisoner of war to know Barney the Dinosaur Theme drive me nuts..

Clip Source: news.bbc.co.uk

It's not like hearing a Bach symphony, where you can flow along with the music. The idea is to have no variation: the same sounds over and over again."

Dr Michael Peel of the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture adds: "Music is used to make the detainee aware that he has no control over what's going on in any of his senses. Deprivation of normal sensory stimulation and lack of control over one's environment is a disempowerment that eventually dehumanises people."

I never doubt some of them is guilty but you still cannot prosecute someone for chating. I have a friend in college who once got so drunk and went on Greyhound. He accidentally brushed against a little girl. The parents screamed MOLESTATION and a MOP formed and beat the shit out of him. The police came and threw him in county jail for 5 days . It took another 2 years of legal fighting to clear his name before every charges was dropped.

Clip Source: news.yahoo.com

Nowadays, it would be called empowering women. But back then,
centuries ago, it was just a way for the sworn sisters of this rugged and
tradition-laden Chinese countryside to share their hopes, their joys and their
many sorrows.

Only men learned to read and write Chinese, and bound feet and social
strictures confined women to their husband's homes. So somehow -- scholars
are unsure how, or exactly when -- the women of this fertile valley in the
southwestern corner of Hunan province developed their own way to communicate.
It was a delicate, graceful script handed down from grandmother to
granddaughter, from elderly aunt to adolescent niece, from girlfriend to
girlfriend -- and never, ever shared with the men and boys.

So was born nushu, or women's script, a single-sex writing system that
Chinese scholars believe is the only one of its kind.

Besides the $1.75, sheriffs get additional state payments of as much as $11.25 a day for the entire jail. More than 80 years later, most Alabama counties still operate under this system, with the same $1.75-a-day allowance, and some sheriffs are actually making money on top of their salaries.

Critics charge that Alabama is, in effect, paying law enforcement to skimp on food and may be rewarding sheriffs for mistreating prisoners.

The few sheriffs who would discuss the arrangement defended it as cost-effective for their counties and disputed any suggestion they are making a lot of money.

Sheriff takes out personal loan
The head of the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts, Ron Jones, said state auditors cannot determine how much some sheriffs are making off the system because the lawmen put the money in personal accounts.

Tags: news

<clipSource>http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24684752/</clipSource>

Doctors group backs marijuana

clipped by: dakotayii
clipper's remarks: About time

Clip Source: www.reuters.com

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A leading U.S. doctors group has endorsed using marijuana for medical purposes, urging the government to roll back a prohibition on using it to treat patients and supporting studies into its medical applications.

The American College of Physicians, the second-largest doctors group in the United States, issued a policy statement on medical marijuana this week after it was approved by its governing body, the group said on Friday.

The group cited evidence that marijuana is valuable in treating severe weight loss associated with AIDS, and nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy in cancer patients.

"Additional research is needed to clarify marijuana's therapeutic properties and determine standard and optimal doses and routes of delivery. And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people. As far as my experience goes, they are no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power. Otherwise I cannot see anything 'chosen' about them."
In his later years he referred to a "cosmic religious feeling" that permeated and sustained his scientific work. In 1954, a year before his death, he spoke of wishing to "experience the universe as a single cosmic whole". He was also fond of using religious flourishes, in 1926 declaring that "He [God] does not throw dice" when referring to randomness thrown up by quantum theory.

His

Clip Source: www.guardian.co.uk

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." So said Albert Einstein, and his famous aphorism has been the source of endless debate between believers and non-believers wanting to claim the greatest scientist of the 20th century as their own.

A little known letter written by him, however, may help to settle the argument - or at least provoke further controversy about his views.

Einstein penned the letter on January 3 1954 to the philosopher Eric Gutkind who had sent him a copy of his book Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt. The letter went on public sale a year later and has remained in private hands ever since.

In the letter, he states: "The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this."

Tags: news

<clipSource>http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/may/12/peopleinscience.religion</clipSource>
