But we have evolved to excel in one issue: sex. Not regarding sexual activity - as it has been shown that the bonobo (which is also wrongly named "dwarf chimpanzee") has more sex and much varied than the human being - but penis size.

Breakdown in family structure? Loss of prayer in school? Increasing childhood obesity? Prevalence of non-violent videogames? Whatever the reason, I think we need to spend more time telling the next generation the importance of striking hippies in the face with a fist. No functional society has survived hippies running around unpunched, and America will be similarly doomed if we don't change our ways.

Our military is overseas killing terrorists -- the violent form of the hippie -- so they can't be here punching hippies for us. A married couple receives a bank statement with a huge overdraft. They also receive a final demand for the gas bill. So they agree to save money. That evening, they are watching TV when the man gets up and tells his wife that he’s off down to the bar. Outraged, the wife informs him that he has no right to go to the bar and leave her at home when they need to economise. The husband nods and tells his wife to put her coat on. Surprised and amazed, the wife asks, “Are you really going to take me with you?” “No,” he says. “I’m shutting off the heat.”

For example, they look at faces. According to recent work by Nikolaas Oosterhof and Alexander Todorov of Princeton's psychology department, we form our first opinions of someone's trustworthiness through a quick physiognomic snapshot. By studying people's reactions to a range of artificially-generated faces, Oosterhof and Todorov were able to identify a set of features that seemed to engender trust. Working from those findings, they were able to create a continuum: faces with high inner eyebrows and pronounced cheekbones struck people as trustworthy, faces with low inner eyebrows and shallow cheekbones untrustworthy.

In a paper published in June, they suggested that our unconscious bias is a byproduct of more adaptive instincts: the features that make a face strike us as trustworthy, if exaggerated, make a face look happy - with arching inner eyebrows and upturned mouths - and an exaggerated "untrustworthy"

Clip Source: www.boston.com

Human beings are social animals, and our first instinct is to trust others. Con men, of course, have long known this - their craft consists largely of playing on this predilection, and turning it to their advantage.

Researchers have discovered that surprisingly small factors - where we meet someone, whether their posture mimics ours, even the slope of their eyebrows or the thickness of their chin - can matter as much or more than what they say about themselves. We size up someone's trustworthiness within milliseconds of meeting them, and while we can revise our first impression, there are powerful psychological tendencies that often prevent us from doing so - tendencies that apply even more strongly if we've grown close.

"Trustworthiness is the very first thing that we decide about a person, and once we've decided, we do all kinds of elaborate gymnastics to believe in people."

Tags: science

<clipSource>http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2008/08/17/confidence_game/?page=full</clipSource>

My cunt examination

clipped by: dakotayii
clipper's remarks: WTF

Clip Source: www.weirdasianews.com

Tags: humor

<clipSource>http://www.weirdasianews.com/2008/04/08/excuse-me-i-am-here-for-my-cunt-examination/</clipSource>

Masturbational INSANITY

clipped by: dakotayii
clipper's remarks: The mind too is attacked. According to legend, an assortment of settlers were selected to sail south to establish a colony in more hospitable climes. The men and women apprehensively put to sea, and the gaggle of enterprising Greeks eventually erected the city of Cyrene on Africa's northern tip. There, the settlers encountered a local herb which would ultimately bring them and their progeny fantastic wealth.

The plant was known as silphium or laserwort, and its heart-shaped fruit purportedly brought the ancient world a highly sought-after freedom: the opportunity to enjoy sex with very little risk of pregnancy

It is thought by many historians that this ancient icon of unfettered lovemaking is the origin of today's ubiquitous "I love you" heart symbol.

Tags: history

<clipSource>http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=851</clipSource>

Mirrors Don’t Lie.. : -)

clipped by: einbar
clipper's remarks: “When people are made to be self-aware, they are likelier to stop and think about what they are doing,” Dr. Bodenhausen said. “A byproduct of that awareness may be a shift away from acting on autopilot toward more desirable ways of behaving.” Physical self-reflection, in other words, encourages philosophical self-reflection, a crash course in the Socratic notion that you cannot know or appreciate others until you know yourself. StumbleUpon was primarily catered to geeks in the early days and the geeks are still here. Geeks aren't a good demographic for internet marketing. Another item to note is that some people [anti-spammers or the StumbleUpon Spam Fighters - of which there are many ] will go so far as to inform Google -via your AdSense ad- that you employed spammalicious practices in driving traffic to your site. They will also contact the people you got your referral ID from and inform them of the same thing. Some people will go so far as to find out who you really are and ...well... I guess it can get complicated from there.

Links of Interest:

StumbleUpon: How to Deal with Spam

StumbleUpon: Sp@m-Free Group on Stumble

StumbleUpon: "Anti-Spam" tagged sites on Stumble

StumbleUpon: Frequently Asked Questions

Newsvine: Latest News on Spam - Arrests, laws, trends etc.

Tags: web, stumbleupon, social-networking

<clipSource>http://digits.newsvine.com/_news/2007/12/23/1182485-spamming-stumbleupon-not-profitable</clipSource>

origins of laughter

clipped by: aydin

Clip Source: www.wired.com

Holt:
V. S. Ramachandran, the brain researcher, has a theory about the origin of laughter — that when you're in the jungle and there's an apparent threat, the first member of the kinship group to notice that it's not a real threat emits this stereotyped vocalization. And it's contagious, so everyone starts laughing. That's also the basis of the relief theory of humor, that there's a release of the energy you had summoned up to solve some puzzle. Kant said that the essence of humor is a strained expectation dissolving into nothing.
