There's a certain mineral that may help reduce your diabetes risk.

Here's a clue: You might already be getting plenty of it if you eat lots of whole grains, beans, nuts, and leafy greens. It's magnesium -- found naturally in many plant-based foods.
Mr. Greenspan was wrong in 2004, when he sang the praises of adjustable-rate mortgages. He was wrong in 2005, when he dismissed the idea that there was a national housing bubble, suggesting that at most there was some “froth” in the market. He was wrong last fall, when he suggested that the worst of the housing slump was behind us. (Housing starts have fallen 30 percent since then.)

But his latest pronouncement — that the market rescue plan being pushed by Henry Paulson, the Treasury secretary, is likely to make things worse rather than better — looks all too accurate.

Tags: housing, greenspan

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/22/opinion/22krugman.html?_r=2&th&emc=th&oref=slogin&oref=slogin</clipSource>

WHAT ARE BRAIN GAMES?

clipped by: crazedmom

Clip Source: www.prevention.com

Is there any better advice than your mother's adage to "Put things back in the same place," or the used car salesman's habit of repeating your name over and over?

There's plenty! But that doesn't mean that your mom and the salesman aren't on to something. Many of the old-fashioned tips work--if you establish a habit of using them. But there are also new ideas, variations on classics, and specific--and fun--ways to sharpen your recall.

Here's something you can do right now, right where you are, to improve your memory:

Repeat this sentence: My memory is better than I think it is.

Tags: memory, loss, advice, health

<clipSource>http://www.prevention.com/cda/article/tips-to-recharge-your-memory/e03a9c777f803110VgnVCM20000012281eac____/health/brain.fitness?cm_mmc=Spotlight-_-101507-_-Health-_-Recharge%20Your%20Memory</clipSource>
