Chalk one up for Latino Review! The movie site totally called Jake Gyllenhaal nabbing the leading role of Dastan in the Jerry Bruckheimer produced movie adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Also confirmed to appear is Gemma Arterton as Tamina, a "feisty and exotic princess" according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mike Newell is directing the Prince of Persia film based on the 2003 entry, with shooting planned to kick off this Summer. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this story is that I knew how to correctly spell "Gyllenhaal," something I would have preferred to look up rather than dedicate memory to.

Hey Rob,

I've been a long-time reader, and, in part, thanks to your amazing creations, I realised the magic of PVC piping!

At work, out department decided to do 80s Trivial Pursuit as our theme. I decided to be Elliot from ET.

And the iconic image is the hooded youngster with ET in his bike basket. The back and front of the bike is done out of PVC pipes and silver paint, while ol' ET himself is actually just a carved Styrofoam face glued onto a paper cone.

I sure hope I can out-pedal the feds!

He and Dr. McCoy start pointing and giggling at you while you're conversing with the Captain.

He keeps giving Scotty incorrect coordinates so you beam down next to hostile aliens.

He doesn't need to get high on spores to punch you in the face.

Won't use Vulcan mind meld to save you from the alien, decides beaming up and leaving you behind would be more logical.

Keeps making "I've got my eyes on you" sign at you behind Kirk's back.

He tells you it's highly illogical even before you've started to speak.

He uses the other Vulcan salute. The one with only one finger.

For Deepti: Pink concert photos

clipper's remarks: Here you go Deepti. They're not much but these are my favourite ones. I took over 1100 photos of Naree, and ended up with just over 100 that I liked.

The lighting during Pink's part was much better and had only taken about 300 or photos but ended up with about 100 as well. I'm very proud of these photos! Best to click on the images. Much larger and clearer.

Okay, so I went to Dubai just to attend Pink's concert. Why? Why would I bother? It's because Naree (Becca) was the opening act. I've known Becca since she was about 8 or so. Her sister, Nina was in my class. It was great of Naree to get me a press pass to the concert so I could take photos.

I've seen Naree perform several times. But seeing her on the stage this time was something else. I felt so proud of her. When we were ushered to the press pit, I got a little teary as she greeted the crowd. Oh boy, did I ever take photos, and here are a few.*

I was ecstatic when she did the Carlton dance.

I don't understand what all the hype is about Dubai. It took ages just to get to the express way. And that was at 2 a.m.

*I know not many people read this, but for those who do stumble upon these photos, please do let me know if they're going to be used.

"Honest Ed" Mirvish

Toronto needs more people like Ed Mirvish. He turned a discount store into a landmark. He revitalized a historic Toronto building. He transformed a slum into one of the city's cultural hotspots. He brought glory to Toronto theatre. The man known as "Honest Ed" has died at the age of 92.

Everyone in the city has heard of Ed Mirvish.

His birthday parties drew crowds to his store for free food and entertainment. He handed out free turkeys at Christmas.

But Ed Mirvish's contributions to the city of Toronto go far beyond his famous discount store.

In 1962 Mirvish purchased the Royal Alexandra Theatre on King Street.

In 1993 Ed, along with his son David, opened the Princess of Wales Theatre

His reach stretched all the way to London, England, where he purchased the Old Vic Theatre, saving another historic theatre from destruction.

Mirvish was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for saving the Old Vic.

it was his eclectic style that made him well loved.
