You can find out more about Halsman here : www.temple.edu/photo/photographers/halsman/phbio.html and i fully reccomend looking at some more of his work - his collaborations with Salvador Dali were some of the most innovative work around.

And something to note - you could do this in photoshop now easily but Halsman did not - this was shot live. It took 26 tries to get it over five hours - Halsman counted to four, Dali leapt, 3 assistants threw the cats, one threw the water from a bucket and Halsman's wife held the chair. Its all done in the camera.

Tags: salvador, dali, philippe, halsman, photography, art, photograph

<clipSource>http://www.flickr.com/photos/monkeyc/95165918/</clipSource>

Love in a backward world

clipped by: coconutshell
clipper's remarks: Since it's sap-fest and sap-season's coming up, voila a little backwards movie that makes sense.

Clip Source: youtube.com

The 5 minute film tells the story of a couple who spot each other across a crowded street and fall in love.
Steve,

Our story begins with one PinkStainlessTail, who in an Ask Metafilter post about a Christmas song said the following:

" I like to sing Jingle Bell Rock, but using only the words "bell", "rock", and "jingle":

Bell rock jingle rock
Bell jingle rock
Rock jingle rock
Bell jingle bell
Rock bell
Jingle
Rock rock bell
Jingle rock, jingle rock
Bell bell bell

Drives my wife nuts. I'd record an MP3 of me doing it if someone could find me a karaoke track."

Soon after, much to the chagrin of humanity as a whole, he actually did record his version of the song.

It's only fair that you have to endure it, in penance for your bringing up that O Holy Night song every year.

Your... Friend?

From Miss Cellania, a guide to US newspaper:

1. The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country.

2. The New York Times is read by people who think they run the country.

3. The Washington Post is read by people who think they should run the country.

4. USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the country but don’t really understand the Washington Post. They do, however like the smog statistics shown in pie charts.

5. The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn’t mind running the country, if they could spare the time, and if they didn’t have to leave L.A. to do it.

6. The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run the country.

7. The New York Daily News is read by people who aren’t too sure who’s running the country, and don’t really care as long as they can get a seat on the train.

8. The New York Post is read by people who don’t care who’s running the country either, as long as they do something really scandalous, preferably while intoxicated.

9. The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren’t sure there is a country, or that anyone is running it; but whoever it is, they oppose all that they stand for. There are occasional exceptions if the leaders are handicapped minority, feministic atheist dwarfs, who also happen to be illegal aliens from ANY country or galaxy as long as they are democrats.

10. The Miami Herald is read by people who are running another country, but need the baseball scores.
