Experience has been a popular issue this campaign season. Now that we know who all the players are on the Democratic and Republican tickets, we can tally up their backgrounds.

As we have noted in examinations of the candidates during the primary season, history doesn't provide a very clear record on the relationship between specific types of experience and performance in office. For our purposes, we'll avoid judgments about the value or relevance of the experience in these candidates' backgrounds and simply lay them out.

SEN. JOE BIDEN, Democratic vice presidential nominee

Biden, 65, was elected to the U.S. Senate representing Delaware at the young age of 29. He was not old enough to hold the office on Election Day, but he turned 30 before it was time to take the oath of office. This means Biden has been a U.S. senator for

Tags: politics

<clipSource>http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2008/sep/03/fact-sheet-experience-and-tickets/</clipSource>

Incredible Japanese Fountain

clipped by: clipmaureen
clipper's remarks: How do they do this??????

Clip Source: videos.komando.com

Tags: fountain

<clipSource>http://videos.komando.com/2008/08/19/water-painting/</clipSource>

Children of the storm-KATRINA

clipped by: clipmaureen
clipper's remarks: Just found this very short film of kids a year after the storm. At the Westminster Thurber Retirement Community here, Heather Ramirez summed it up in two words. “Painful,” she said. “Frustrating.”

Mrs. Ramirez is only 33, but on a recent morning she was taking part in a three-hour training program called Xtreme Aging, designed to simulate the diminished abilities associated with old age.

Along with 15 colleagues and a reporter, Mrs. Ramirez, a social worker at the facility, put on distorting glasses to blur her vision; stuffed cotton balls in her ears to reduce her hearing, and in her nose to dampen her sense of smell; and put on latex gloves with adhesive bands around the knuckles to impede her manual dexterity. Everyone put kernels of corn in their shoes to approximate the aches that come from losing fatty tissue.

They had become, in other words, virtual members of the 5.3 million Americans age 85 and older, the nation’s fastest-growing age group

Tags: aging

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/03/us/03aging.html?th=&emc=th&pagewanted=print</clipSource>

It is going to be a long recovery....

clipped by: clipmaureen
clipper's remarks: My hometown, New Orleans, will survive but it will in spite of "official" help.....

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

<NYT_HEADLINE _moz-userdefined="" type=" " version="1.0">

NEW ORLEANS — The citizens of this scarred city have grown accustomed to promises of grand official projects that will infallibly transform life here but somehow never do. Their attention is diminishing.

But not in the case of Karen Gadbois. She jumps in her car and checks up on the promises, driving for hours across the city, then blogs about the results on her kitchen table while her dogs yap around her. A few months ago, she discovered a city renovation program that was not actually fixing up houses.

That activism might normally go down as well-meaning naïveté. Here though, it can be incendiary, in a place where big public funds slosh around, citizen needs are still great at Hurricane Katrina’s three-year anniversary and City Hall’s grasp of its own initiatives is shaky.

In fact, it has set off a bomb that has exploded in slow motion here in the past three weeks, largely thanks to Ms. Gadbois:

Tags: katrina

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/13/us/nationalspecial/13activist.html?th=&emc=th&adxnnlx=1218913720-a3PfxcNDAbK6My900zQ/Ew&pagewanted=print</clipSource>

Boxing cat

clipped by: clipmaureen
clipper's remarks: Another outstanding cat.

Clip Source: www.womansday.com

Tags: cat

<clipSource>http://www.womansday.com/home/13144/top-11-funny-pet-videos-page9.html</clipSource>

Silly Kittens

clipped by: clipmaureen
clipper's remarks: Meow

Clip Source: www.womansday.com

Tags: kittens

<clipSource>http://www.womansday.com/home/13144/top-11-funny-pet-videos-page8.html</clipSource>

PTSD & Episodic & Chronic Migraine

clipped by: clipmaureen
clipper's remarks: Possible link between PTSD & these headaches.

Clip Source: www.medscape.com

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Episodic and Chronic Migraine

B. Childhood abuse has been suggested as a risk factor for chronic pain in adulthood. In addition depression, as well as several other psychiatric disorders, are co-morbid with migraine.
