clipper's remarks: Several people, all of whom I'd objectively call "innocent," have been investigated by the FBI, humiliated, arrested, and effectively destroyed by scandal when photo-developing and computer-repair shops discovered that they had photographed their young children naked. One father lost custody of his kids for taking a photo of them mooning him. The argument is: "we all have to view innocent photos through the eyes of a pedophile, for the good of the children." Effing scary. I mean, I've taken several pictures of my son in the bathtub, and according to this article, that makes me effectively guilty of child pornography. Tragically for a number of people all over the country, innocent family photos turned over to the police have led to financial ruin, divorce, debt, public humiliation, and lifelong scorn as a registered sex offender for mothers and fathers.

Some cases involved pictures much less provocative than Sarah M.'s. Based on the way prosecutors interpreted photos in a few of those cases -- Marian Rubin, a New Jersey grandmother charged for taking nude photos of her granddaughters, then aged 3 and 8; and Jeffrey B., a New York father who lost custody of his two daughters after he shot pictures of them mooning him -- it's possible to spot red flags where our innocence used to be.

The claim has been made that we all have to view innocent photos through the eyes of a pedophile, for the good of the children.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tom Wayne amassed thousands of books in a warehouse during the 10 years he has run his used book store, Prospero's Books. His collection ranges from best sellers like Tom Clancy's "The Hunt for Red October" and Tom Wolfe's "Bonfire of the Vanities," to obscure titles like a bound report from the Fourth Pan-American Conference held in Buenos Aires in 1910. But wanting to thin out his collection, he found he couldn't even give away books to libraries or thrift shops, which said they were full. So on Sunday, Wayne began burning his books protest what he sees as society's diminishing support for the printed word.

The fire blazed for about 50 minutes before the Kansas City Fire Department put it out because Wayne didn't have a permit to burn them.

Wayne said next time he will get a permit. He said he envisions monthly bonfires until his supply — estimated at 20,000 books — is exhausted.

Dairy market forecasters are warning that consumers can expect a sharp increase in dairy prices this summer. By June, the milk futures market predicts, the price paid to farmers will have increased 50 percent this year -- driven by higher costs of transporting milk to market and increased demand for corn to produce ethanol.

But University of Illinois dairy specialist Michael Hutjens forecasts further increases of up to 40 cents a gallon for milk over the next few months, and up to 60 cents for a pound of cheese.

Hutjens and others said higher fuel prices have increased the cost of moving milk from farm to market, and corn -- the primary feed for dairy cattle -- is being gobbled up by producers of ethanol. The USDA projects that 3.2 billion bushels of this year's corn crop will be used to make ethanol, a 52 percent increase over 2006.

Ethanol is a renewable, homegrown fuel that can help lower U.S. dependence on foreign oil. But as more and more ethanol is made from corn, less and less corn is available for food production, and that’s causing some unforeseen problems.

Corn is a mainstay of American agriculture— it’s an important ingredient in cereals and baked goods, and corn syrup is used to make processed foods like candy, chips and soft drinks. But most importantly, corn is the major source of food for cattle, pigs, turkeys and chickens that are headed for the dinner table.

U.S. ethanol production could consume more than half of U.S. corn, wheat and coarse grains by 2012, driving up food prices and causing shortages

The study estimates that booming ethanol production has already raised U.S. food prices by $47 per person annually. In Mexico, protests have already erupted over the high price of corn tortillas, a staple food in the local diet.

Wireless energy promise powers up

A clean-cut vision of a future freed from the rat's nest of cables needed to power today's electronic gadgets has come one step closer to reality.

US researchers have successfully tested an experimental system to deliver power to devices without the need for wires.

The setup, reported in the journal Science, made a 60W light bulb glow from a distance of 2m (7ft).

WiTricity, as it is called, exploits simple physics and could be adapted to charge other devices such as laptops.

With the power switched on at the transmitter, the bulb would light up despite there being no physical connection between the two.

Measurements showed that the setup could transfer energy with 40% efficiently across the gap.

The bulb was even made to glow when obstructions such as wood metal, electronic devices were placed between the two coils.

"The goal now is to shrink the size of these things, go over larger distances and improve the efficiencies," said Professor Soljacic.

In a culture where sexuality and porn is now a part of everyday life, porn addiction in the church is escalating, according to a new survey.

In a poll of 1,000 respondents, 50 percent of Christian men and 20 percent of Christian women were found to be addicted to pornography. Conducted by ChristaNet.com, a popular Christian marketplace website, the poll asked visitors about their personal sexual conduct.

"There have been dynamic paradigm shifts in the behavior of Christians over the last four years," said Clay Jones, founder and president of Second Glance Ministries, which partnered with ChristiaNet.com to evaluate poll responses.

Many point to the Internet for the pervasive problem of sexual addiction.

"Technology (the Internet) has allowed pornography to flood the market place beyond a controllable level," said Jones.

Auction website eBay has pulled its US advertising from search engine giant and adversary Google.

The move comes after Google angered eBay with a provocative decision to hold an event on the same evening as eBay's annual merchants' conference.

Google's party was aimed at attracting attention away from eBay's payment system PayPal to its own card processing service, analysts say.

EBay spends an estimated $25m (£12.6m) a year advertising on Google in the US.

This makes eBay potentially the biggest single user of AdWords, Google's advertising system that shows adverts based on words in web searches and the biggest money-spinner for the internet search engine.

Most widely known for being a key ingredient in cobblers and pies, black raspberries may soon gain a new reputation as the most promising form of cancer treatment.

In the 1990s, Gary Stoner, professor of internal medicine at Ohio State University, began studying the effects of black raspberries on cancer, specifically colon and esophageal cancer.

"There are a large number of compounds in berries that inhibit cancer in animals," said Stoner.

Upon close chemical examination of the raspberries, Stoner and other scientists found that anthocyanins, the compounds that gives the berries their color, played a crucial role in preventing the development of cancer. Scavenging free radicals, molecules that alter and destroy DNA, and inhibiting the inflammation process are among the ways scientists believe anthocyanins help prevent and treat cancer.

"The inflammatory process produces cytokines," said Stoner. "Cytokines stimulate cell growth and inhibit cell death -- this drives the cancer process."

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) -- Dutch students have invented powdered alcohol which they say can be sold legally to minors.

The latest innovation in inebriation, called Booz2Go, is available in 20-gram packets that cost €1-1.5 ($1.35-$2).

Top it up with water and you have a bubbly, lime-colored and -flavored drink with just 3 percent alcohol content.

"We are aiming for the youth market. They are really more into it because you can compare it with Bacardi-mixed drinks," 20-year-old Harm van Elderen told Reuters.

Van Elderen and four classmates at Helicon Vocational Institute, about an hour's drive from Amsterdam, came up with the idea as part of their final-year project.

"Because the alcohol is not in liquid form, we can sell it to people below 16," said project member Martyn van Nierop.

The legal age for drinking alcohol and smoking is 16 in the Netherlands.
