and extremely wealthy man, Marcus

Licinius

Crassus,
wanted to rule Rome. Just to give you an idea of what
sort of man Crassus really was, he is credited with
invention of the fire brigade. But in Crassus' version,
his fire-fighting slaves would race to the scene of a
burning building whereupon Crassus would offer to buy it
on the spot for a tiny fraction of it's worth. If the
owner sold, Crassus' slaves would put out the fire. If
the owner refused to sell, Crassus allowed the building
to burn to the ground. By means of this device, Crassus
eventually came to be the largest single private land
holder in Rome, and used some of his wealth to help back
        Julius Caesar against Cicero.

<clipSource>http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/ARTICLE5/index.html</clipSource>

JFK Quote

clipped by: katsteevns

Clip Source: www.notonemore.us

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make

(Feel free to say nicer things about a person behind their back than to their face.)
# Don't gossip and don't have a big mouth.
# Never judge other people harsher than you judge yourself.
# Forgive, but never forget.
# Don't have skeletons in your closet.
# Keep as few secrets as reasonably possible.
# Despite the rule before this one, keep your friends' secrets.
# Privately question your own values.
# Avoid questioning other people's values, especially in public.
# Listen more than you talk.
# Never tell other people that you think they or something they are doing is immoral or sinful.
# Keep your moral values and religion to yourself. Use them to direct your own actions.
# Don't be camera shy.
# Say "I love you" often.

Clip Source: warriorism.info

71 Things You Can Do

Most people do things that don't make sense, and I'm fine with it. I've learned to accept the non-sense that fills this world.

Still, the point is that people do things that don't make sense. They whine, complain, and cry over problems they can easily change. They get depressed over problems they cause for themselves.

For example, lazy people often whine that they don't make more money. Selfish people complain that they don't have more friends. Many people sabotage all their romantic relationships and then complain that they don't have a lover.

Granted, sometimes when something bad happens to a person it's purely bad luck. For example, you could be sitting in your well-built home while reading the newspaper and a tornado could tear your home up.

However, usually when you don't like what's happening in your life, it's your own damn fault. It's your fault if you're fat, lazy, uneducated, lonely, etc.

In the following, I list 71 things that you can do to be more successful.

<clipSource>http://warriorism.info/thingsyoucando.php</clipSource>

Slideshow: 10 Ways to Boost Your Metabolism

clipped by: chedare
clipper's remarks: And for most people, metabolism slows steadily after age 40. We honored her with the Human Rights Watch Defender Award in 2007. Natasha had also been honored by various European institutions: In 2005 she received the European Parliament's Robert Shuman medal and in 2004 was awarded the "Right to Life" award by the Swedish Parliament. She also was the first recipient of the Anna Politkovskaya prize -- named for the journalist who met the same fate.

While the international community applauded her work, the Chechen authorities were not as pleased. Fear conditioning is a form of Pavlovian, or associative, learning and is considered to be a model system for understanding human phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder and other anxiety disorders.

Neuroscientists previously suspected that both the amygdala and another brain region, the dorsal hippocampus, were where cues get associated when fear memories are formed. But the new work indicates that the role of the hippocampus is to process and transmit information about conditioned stimuli to the amygdala, said Ilene Bernstein, corresponding author of the new study and a UW professor of psychology.

<clipSource>http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/07/090707093753.htm</clipSource>

Mapping Big Ideas - 200 pages of world-changing thinking

clipped by: einbar
clipper's remarks: " In case you’re wondering just why this visualization model works, watch information designer Tom Wujec’s excellent short TED talk about the 3 ways the brain creates meaning out of words, images, feelings, connections"

Clip Source: www.brainpickings.org

Mapping Big Ideas: BIGVIZ

200 pages of world-changing thinking

When two of our favorite ideas — TED and data visualization — converge, it’s a beautiful thing

BIGVIZ —

is the work of visual cartographers David Sibbet and Kevin Richards, who created over 700 spontaneous sketches in real time at TED. egoldstein
clipper's remarks: We haven't been seeking out the reviews, but nice to see Amplify getting noticed. I clipped this paragraph because it speaks to one of the reasons we created Amplify as a separate service from Clipmarks. We really didn't want to disturb the user experience or community on Clipmarks.com, but we wanted a way to better support Twitter and Facebook users as well as groups. We felt the best way to do this would be to create Amplify as a separate service from Clipmarks, but giving Clipmarks users the option to sync the two.

Clip Source: www.appscout.com

In a way, Amplify is what I had hoped Clipmarks would be: in addition to giving you an easy way to take entire clippings of the Web that you can return to and review later, the service allows you to share those interesting tidbits with the world. This way you give other people a way to interact with you, comment on your clippings, and see what you're reading on the Web that you think is interesting and worth sharing. Since Amplify allows you to hook into your Twitter or Facebook account, the service doesn't have to compete with those networks for attention and can compliment them instead.

Tags: amplify, appscout, pc magazine, review

<clipSource>http://www.appscout.com/2009/06/collect_blog_and_share_clips_o.php</clipSource>

The Reason Project

clipped by: balthazarus
clipper's remarks: Looks promising...

Clip Source: www.reasonproject.org

The Reason Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation devoted to spreading scientific knowledge and secular values in society. With hard facts, analysis and humor, Jim Swanson exposes the so-called "Coalition of the Willing in Iraq"
for what it is, The Bush League of Nations, a shameful Big Media-supported myth
that is simply one chapter in a much broader campaign of lies and crimes intended to deceive and distract
Americans while the Bush regime wages its war on Iraq, the world and especially America. The book digs into
the truth behind this deception and serves as a rallying call to restore America's sacred democracy and Constitution
	  for our children and grandchildren.

But that difference vanished among students who watched the podcast but did not take notes.Students who listened to the podcast one or more times and took notes had an average score of 77, McKinney says.
To find out how much students really can learn from podcast lectures alone - mimicking a missed class - McKinney's team presented 64 students with a single lecture on visual perception, from an introductory psychology course.
Half of the students attended the class in person and received a printout of the slides from the lecture. The other 32 downloaded a podcast that included audio from the same lecture synchronised with video of the slides. These students also received a printed handout of the material.
The researchers told the students they would be tested on the material in a week, and they also asked

Clip Source: www.newscientist.com
