Okay peeps, I’m sure most of you know how to use Limewire and Bittorrent these days. But, I’ll bet you haven’t used Google to perform a quick Mp3 search for the nagging song that’s been stuck in your head all day. The truth is that Google can be used to conduct a search for almost any file type, including Mp3s, PDFs, and videos. This functionality has been available for a long time, but most users haven’t caught on to it. So here’s a quick example of how to use Google to search for Mp3s. It’s like turning Google into the Napster of 2000.

The following is a Google search string for searching open web directories containing downloadable Nirvana music files. Substitute the term Nirvana in the search string for any other band of your liking. You can always bookmark the search result for future use.

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wma|mp3) “Nirvana”

With some very slight modifications the same search string can easily be used to search for ebooks in DOC and PDF format:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(pdf|doc) “george orwell 1984″

Or perhaps your looking for some specific video file:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(mpg|wmv) “towelie”

You can check the official Google Advanced Search Operators page for further details on editing this search string to meet your specific needs. Enjoy yourselves!

Now thry this http://www.briefli.com/ link it does exactly what we tought of doing above.

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings."

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

You should not confuse your career with your life.

Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

Never lick a steak knife.

The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.

You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.

You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.

The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above-average drivers.

A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)

Very useful, specially to search into difficult searching resources, like the Animated Chinese Characters. Always useful to search one character into different dictionaries with only one single entry.

Clip Source: zhongwen.com

Chinese Characters Dictionary Web

Most of the major Chinese character
dictionaries on the web are interlinked at a character-to-character level,
allowing visitors
to quickly jump across dictionaries to check the same character entry without having
to search again for the character. Find a character in any of the above
dictionaries and you can
follow the blue links, jumping between more than a dozen
dictionaries spread across seven countries and four continents. (I
once gave a
brief talk on this phenomenon.)

The researchers studied 110 different languages, none of which had a written component, which ensured that only spoken word categories would be used to describe the colors.

Forty-one of the 110 languages in the survey have words corresponding to each unique hue. In each language, the range of colors identified as corresponding to the gloss for each color spans nearly the identical range of hues. Here's a graph summarizing those results for 38 of the languages (3 were eliminated from analysis because too few participants spoke those languages):

But what about the other 69 languages? Their results actually followed a similar pattern in most cases. For example, 40 of the languages had a term corresponding to "grue" -- a mixture of green and blue. These languages still broke the colors into similar categories, but lumped two of the categories together. Even among languages that had all four color categories, "blue" and "green" were the most frequently confused colors. Other languages had words for "grelow" and "relow," but overall, there was close to 90 percent agreement on the boundaries of color categories.

Kuehni argues that this is evidence for common color categories in all humans. He's careful to point out that while this doesn't rule out the possibility that colors are culturally determined, given the wide range of cultures studied here, it's strong support for the idea that color categories are determined neurophysiologically -- that the way we categorize colors is embedded in the structure of the brain.

Tags: color, colors, colour, colours, language, brain, linguistics, survey, research, science

<clipSource>http://scienceblogs.com/cognitivedaily/2006/09/do_we_all_mean_the_same_thing.php</clipSource>

The Best of Google Video

clipped by: Djiezes
clipper's remarks: some really great stuff here.

Clip Source: hubpages.com

The Best of Google Video

Carl Sagan's "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage

James Randi debunks Uri Geller and Peter Popoff

60 minutes: The World around Us - Randi vs. Geller (video quality is not the best)

MeaningofLife.tv

The Root of All Evil? One evening at the dinner table my son said, “Dad this food is disgusting.” I thought - where did that word come from? Another time while I was explaining the rules to a game he said, “Now that’s just ridiculous.” A minute later he said, “this is stupid, I give up.” At that moment it dawned on me… He’s getting this stuff from me. From now on I better choose my words carefully.

When my son was born, I imagined how I would teach him about life. Little did I know that he would be the teacher. He taught me:

To look for opportunity everywhere
My son views the entire world and every new person, new object, or new event as an opportunity to learn something. When a new person walks in the room he wants to know who they are and if they would like to play. If I drop a new object into a cluttered room, he will spot it, touch it, pick it up, ask questions about it. Nothing new goes unnoticed.

A new synonym for persistence
Santa Claus brought my son a white board and a set of dry erase makers for Christmas (can you tell I’m in IT). My son learned to write very early. He spent months obsessed with writing letters on the white board. One day I looked at the board while he was writing and I saw this combination of capital letters - SHHANDSHOWBO. He also knows how to sound out words, so I asked him what it was. He said, “It’s a word I made up - Sha-hand-show-bo.” I asked, “What does it mean?” He said, “To keep trying even when it’s hard.” Now when I get frustrated I think - Sha-hand-show-bo.

Tags: lessons, life, learning, kids, postivie thoughts

<clipSource>http://www.steve-olson.com/10-things-i-learned-from-my-4-year-old/</clipSource>

How to remember where you parked

clipped by: carmepla
clipper's remarks: A tip for the "absent-minded professor" people.

Clip Source: www.badlanguage.net

How to remember where you parked

Dude, Where’s my Car? This happens to me a lot. I park somewhere and then totally forget where. One time, many years ago, my car was stolen and I didn’t realise for several days because I just assumed I’d parked it somewhere really out of the way.

Anyhow, I have found a great solution: my cell phone camera. I always have my phone (an Orange C600) with me and I just take a quick snap of where my car is - something that will remind me, like a streetname or a familiar landmark. Next time I’m looking for the car, all I have to do is look in the gallery and the most recent picture will show me where it is. I can also email the picture to my PC for extra reminderage.

Tags: tips

<clipSource>http://www.badlanguage.net/?p=284</clipSource>

Two kinds of Creativity

clipped by: carmepla

Clip Source: www.howdesign.com

Theory of Creativity

But here's a theory that separates creatives into two distinct camps. What can designers learn about the creative process from an economist? A great deal, surprisingly.

I'm sure we can all recite them: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. This list has remained unchanged since the time of Aristotle. To most people, a "sixth sense" refers either to one outside the realm of the scientific, or one that simply does not exist in most humans.

However, ask a neurologist how many senses the human body has, and you might get a surprising answer. Many identify nine or more senses- some listing as many as twenty-one. The first category of senses is the "special" senses, including the familiar sight, hearing, taste, and smell. The second category is made up of the somatic senses, which we usually lump under "touch"- including our perception of pressure, heat, and pain. The third category, however, is not nearly as well-known. These are the interoceptive senses- those that deal with data originating in the body itself.

Tags: senses, perception, science, sacks, proprioception, sense, biology, body, psychology, brain

<clipSource>http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=678</clipSource>
