Towards the end of last night's Joe Biden/Sarah Palin debate, Joe Biden said this: "All you have to do is to go down Union Street with me in Wilmington and go to Katie's restaurant..."

and realized Biden was referring to the long-closed Katie's Italian restaurant, which is actually two blocks away from Union Street.

For a guy running as an in-touch-with-the-real-people candidate, it's hard to believe he not only referenced a restaurant that has been closed for nearly 20 years, but also got the location wrong!

I just called the owner of Wings to Go, Nate Johnson, who verified that Katie's closed in the late '80s.

"He was a little off," Johnson said of Biden.

Journalists continue to ask, “What was John McCain thinking in selecting the gaffe-prone Gov. Sarah Palin?”

Recently, for example, in an exclusive interview with news anchor Katie Couric, Palin gushed, “When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’ ” Apparently the former Alaskan beauty queen failed to realize that in 1929 there was neither widespread television nor was Franklin Roosevelt even President.

For example, Palin — who has had past associations with reactionary groups — caused a storm earlier when she characterized Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama in seemingly racialist terms: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

Mitt Romney is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America.

Another Sawdust Clay Recipe

What You'll Need:

Newspaper
3 cups sawdust (available at a lumberyard)
2 cups wet wallpaper paste (mix with water according to package directions)
Acrylic paints
Paintbrush
Large bowl and spoon
Tube
Wire frame or foil

Step 1: Cover your work surface with newspaper. Have an adult help you mix the sawdust and wet wallpaper paste together in a large bowl, and stir until the mixture becomes doughlike. Take the sawdust mixture out of the bowl, and knead it with your hands.

Step 2: Use this thick clay to make textural sculptures with an adult's help. You can form your sculpture over a tube, a wire frame, or a small ball of foil.

Step 3: This clay is also great for making small bowls and vases. Once you've finished shaping your clay creation, paint it with a coat of wet wallpaper paste to set it. Let it air dry for about four days. When dry, paint it with acrylic paints.

Making Sawdust Clay

Measure 2 cups of fine sawdust into a medium sized bowl.

Add 1 cup of dry wallpaper paste.

Blend together well.

Slowly add water and stir until your mixture is a clay consistantly.

Once you have your clay made you can make shapes, designs, creatures - whatever you want!

Let your creations dry at least 24 hours.

Once they are dry, you can sand and paint them.

If your clay is too sticky, add a bit more sawdust and paste.

Obama's Inconsistent Abortion Stand

I'm willing to be charitable to those I disagree with if they leave a way to take them seriously in all the things they say. I disagreed with one of Kerry's fundamental premises, but he had a consistent view, and I pointed that out to counter the many who refused to do that with him. This is different. Barack Obama has basically declared himself incompetent to make any judgments on one of the key issues of our day, and I have to say that I agree with him. The statements he's been making show that he's either hopelessly ignorant on some very important policy matters or deliberately contradicting himself in order to pretend to two opposing groups that he's on both their sides. That means he probably should have a job where these issues really are above his pay grade. There are a lot of such jobs. Unfortunately for him, the job of U.S. President (not to mention U.S. Senator, Illinois State Senator, or constitutional law professor) would not be in the list.
