The figure is absolutely outrageous and completely unjustifiable. And republicans used to be the party of limited instead of Big Government. The consequences are now all coming back. But Democrats should not gloat too much, they had plenty of support for the same spending packages and gave Bush whatever he wanted (fools). The ignorant flag-waving American public now realizes they were pushed into war under false pretenses and lies.

NYC National Debt Clock runs out of digits

NEW YORK - In a sign of the times, the National Debt Clock in New York City has run out of digits to record the growing figure.

As a short-term fix, the digital dollar sign on the billboard-style clock near Times Square has been switched to a figure — the "1" in $10 trillion. It's marking the federal government's current debt at about $10.2 trillion.

The Durst Organization says it plans to update the sign next year by adding two digits. That will make it capable of tracking debt up to a quadrillion dollars.

The late Manhattan real estate developer Seymour Durst put the sign up in 1989 to call attention to what was then a $2.7 trillion debt.

clipper's remarks: McCain calls for a "League of Democracies" for the purposes of "peace" but actually for war. Its key principle is "entangling alliances" which George Washington warned against, starting with NATO as its foundation.

This is actually an old plan and precisely what the UN is all about except it cuts China and Russia out.

This is consistent with George Bush (Bush 41) "new world order" speech where he talked about a United Nations that lives up to the intention of its founders, as he launched Iraq War I. GWB 43 has also made reference to similar principles while already by-passing the UN when it is reluctant to launch a war.

Actually it makes little difference, except to show that Russia and China will be cut out of decisions because they will be the new targets of contest under his neocon vision.

The call to "make the world safe for democracy" (like Wilson and FDR) has been the foundation of world wars, and likely more.

Senator McCain Addresses The Hoover Institution

The NATO alliance has begun to deal with this gap by promoting global partnerships between current members of the alliance and the other great democracies in Asia and elsewhere. We should go further and start bringing democratic peoples and nations from around the world into one common organization, a worldwide League of Democracies.

It could bring concerted pressure to bear on tyrants

with or without Moscow's and Beijing's approval. It could unite to impose sanctions on Iran and thwart its nuclear ambitions.

If I am elected president, I will call a summit of the world's democracies in my first year to seek the views of my democratic counterparts and begin exploring the practical steps necessary to realize this vision.

The 21st century world no longer divides neatly into geographic regions. Organizations and partnerships must be as international as the challenges we confront.

The Bush Doctrine: Preventive, Not Pre-emptive War

clipper's remarks: While Krauthammer (neoconservative columnist) desperately covers for Palin in the aftermath of the ABC Gibson interview Robert Schlesinger gets it right. Palin and Gibson were both wrong, and Palin not even close. His playground analogy makes it clear and that the neocons have confused "pre-emptive war" with "preventive" demonstrates the difference between just and unjust war.

For the record, Charles Gibson didn't get the Bush Doctrine right either. But at least, unlike Sarah Palin, he had an idea of what he was talking about (a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy for the last six years).

Actually, it's preventive war, not pre-emptive. There's a key difference: Pre-emptive war is a long-accepted, noncontroversial practice—if an enemy is clearly massing and about to attack you, you get to strike them pre-emptively.
But the Bush Doctrine is one of preventive war: Attacking another country in order to prevent them from becoming a threat at some nebulous point down the line. To return to the playground analogy, it's as if you hauled off and socked someone because they looked at you funny—that odd look could be a signal that at some point in the future they're going to hit you. Better safe than sorry. But now you're the bully.
The Bush Doctrine of preventive war was controversial and revolutionary. While Bush and his cronies repeatedly conflated the two concepts by referring to his new scheme as "pre-emptive" rather than "preventive," they are not the same.

This is just one reason why Israel and the neocon agenda demanded regime change in Iraq, which clears the way for further wars of aggression in the region by Israel, under a pretense of a "war on terrorism" (which both Obama and McCain will continue).

Note too that while the US has been somewhat restraining Israel, this is mentioned too:

Israel asks U.S. for arms, air corridor to attack Iran

The security aid package the United States has refused to give Israel for the past few months out of concern that Israel would use it to attack nuclear facilities in Iran included a large number of "bunker-buster" bombs, permission to use an air corridor to Iran, an advanced technological system and refueling planes.

Haaretz reported that the Bush administration had turned down an Israeli request for certain security items that could upgrade Israel's capability to attack Iran.

An attack on Iran would apparently require passage through Iraqi air space. For this to occur, an air corridor would be needed that Israeli fighter jets could cross without being targeted by American planes or anti-aircraft missiles. The Americans also turned down this request. According to one account, to avoid the issue, the Americans told the Israelis to ask Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki for permission

And for you hypocritical democrats who want Obama, he already stated he would do the very same thing, invade Pakistan for the "war on terrorism"! (Objective commentary based on principle must spare none who violate it).

The wars will NEVER end until the people make the government stop and refuse to support ANY leader who violates the very restrictive principles of just war and the Constitution.

Pakistanis furious over U.S.-led border raid

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan is determined to defend its territorial integrity, the country's foreign minister said on Thursday, as anger mounted over a raid by U.S.-led troops on a remote border village.

The pre-dawn helicopter-borne ground assault on the village of Angor Adda on the Afghan border on Wednesday was the first known incursion into Pakistan by U.S.-led troops since the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

Twenty people, including women and children were killed, officials said, and a new civilian government, more sensitive to public anger than the previous government, summoned the U.S. ambassador to lodge an angry protest.

Foreign Minister Shah Memood Qureshi said the raid was a shameful violation of rules of engagement agreed with U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan.

"We will not compromise on any violation of our sovereignty," Qureshi told the National Assembly.

But the facts remain true and easily verified. Israel (and the neocons, Cheney had a man in Georgia prior to the war) were behind Georgia's invasion (and murder of civilians) of South Ossetia who declared independence from Georgia over a decade ago.

What the Hezbollah leader says (mocking Israel) is true, they stopped Israel's (unjust) war against Lebanon (bombing 70 percent of the country's infrastructure in a "disproportionate response") which was part of a neocon-Israeli plan for a "new middle east". Russia stopped the neocon-Israeli plans for the recapture of Ossetia.

Nasrallah: 'Failed' IDF generals caused Georgia defeat in war

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Thursday asserted that "failed" Israeli generals had caused Georgia's defeat in its current war with Russia.

"Israel exported failed generals in order to train the Georgian armed forces, including general Gal Hirsch, and we all know that the Georgian army was defeated by the Russian forces," Nasrallah said in a speech to mark two years since the end of the Second Lebanon War.

Brig. Gen. (Res.) Gal Hirsch was the commander of the Israel Defense Forces' Galilee Brigade when reservists Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were abducted by Hezbollah on the northern border, sparking the Second Lebanon War. He operates a privately-owned Israeli military contractors that recently trained Georgian security forces .

Note this happens as the oil laden Caspian region (Russia, Georgia, etc.) comes into play with war and rumors of war--and particularly as Condi Rice (former exec at Chevron) goes around heightening US rhetoric against Russia and signing provocatory missile agreements with its satellite states.

It is not actual supply so much as perceived supply which is effected by wars and "geopolitical" tensions and factors.

Change the (neoconservative) war policy, prices will drop.

Oil prices rebound even as crude inventories jump

NEW YORK (AP) - The price of oil bounced back near $115 a barrel on Wednesday, as traders shrugged off a massive increase in U.S. crude inventories and a stronger dollar and focused on possible supply threats.

It was a volatile day for energy prices, which initially retreated after the U.S. Energy Department said a big gain in imports drove crude inventories up by a hefty 9.4 million barrels in the week ended Aug. 15. The figure came in much higher than the average analyst forecast for a 1.7 million-barrel increase, according to energy information provider Platts.

Many analysts say the price of oil—still more than 60 percent higher than a year ago—appears to be consolidating at current levels.

Congress needs to stop listening to White House propagandists and see the real story, before they start a new Iraq conflict, with Russia, and even towards world war (i.e. NATO versus Russia and allies)! And Congress needs informed people to help wake them up to these documented facts:

The Ossetians, a divided people with one section living within Russia on the north side of the Caucasus mountains, and the other in Georgia, generally felt more comfortable with Russian rule than as part of the new, post-Soviet Georgian state. A small and nasty war with Tbilisi in 1990-92 led to a declaration of independence

Is it not the Ossetians that have the stake in all this, who will govern and rule them?

Georgia and Russia have stumbled into a war that need not have happened.

The epicentre is South Ossetia, which is home to both ethnic Ossetians and Georgians (the latter accounting for about a third of the 70,000 population). The destruction there has been appalling, and it looks as though many hundreds of civilians have died, in the first place as a result of the initial Georgian assault of 7-8 August 2008.

Ossetians fleeing the conflict-zone talk of Georgian atrocities, including the indiscriminate killing of civilians.

Let's compare US and Russia media sources to see each side of the story. Russia's government says this looks like Iraq (Bush's war) and Kosovo (Clinton's war, condemned by republicans) all over again! Americans should play the skeptic and consider domestic media as propaganda (as usual).

Massive US Naval Armada Heads For Iran

Operation Brimstone ended only one week ago. This was the joint US/UK/French naval war games in the Atlantic Ocean preparing for a naval blockade of Iran and the likely resulting war in the Persian Gulf area. The massive war games included a US Navy supercarrier battle group, an US Navy expeditionary carrier battle group, a Royal Navy carrier battle group, a French nuclear hunter-killer submarine plus a large number of US Navy cruisers, destroyers and frigates playing the "enemy force".

The lead American ship in these war games, the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN71) and its Carrier Strike Group Two (CCSG-2) are now headed towards Iran along with the USS Ronald Reagon (CVN76) and its Carrier Strike Group Seven (CCSG-7) coming from Japan.

The build up of naval forces in the Gulf will be one of the largest multi-national naval armadas since the First and Second Gulf Wars. The intent is to create a US/EU naval blockade
