clipper's remarks: Attorney General Mukasey (neocon) wants to give broad powers to the FBI as if the 4th amendment is nothing at all instead of supreme law.

The Justice Department said Wednesday that in light of requests from members of Congress for more information, Mr. Mukasey would agree not to sign the new guidelines before a Sept. 17 Congressional hearing.

Can you believe this absolute corruption and blatant attempt to usurp power for federal policing? There will actually be a hearing in America's Congress to determine whether the 4th amendment will still stand--which forbids searches without probable cause! This right after the annual Sept. 11th propaganda campaign to justify ANY NEW POWERS the government wants, the Constitution notwithstanding.

Mukasey has no Constitutional authority to sign or authorize this (the Constitution is above Mukasey, as well as Bush and Congress), but he wants to, after a good propaganda campaign to justify it as "necessary".

New Guidelines Would Give F.B.I. Broader Powers

WASHINGTON — A Justice Department plan would loosen restrictions on the Federal Bureau of Investigation to allow agents to open a national security or criminal investigation against someone without any clear basis for suspicion, Democratic lawmakers briefed on the details said Wednesday.

The senators said the new guidelines would allow the F.B.I. to open an investigation of an American, conduct surveillance, pry into private records and take other investigative steps “without any basis for suspicion.” The plan “might permit an innocent American to be subjected to such intrusive surveillance based in part on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, or on protected First Amendment activities,” the letter said.

As the end of the Bush administration nears, the White House has been seeking to formalize in law and regulation some of the aggressive counterterrorism steps it has already taken in practice since the Sept. 11 attacks.

Mikheil Saakashvili's decision to use the opening of the Olympic Games to cover Georgia's invasion of its breakaway province of South Ossetia must rank in stupidity with Gamal Abdel-Nasser's decision to close the Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships.

After shelling and attacking what he claims is his own country, killing scores of his own Ossetian citizens and sending tens of thousands fleeing into Russia, Saakashvili's army was whipped back into Georgia in 48 hours.

Reveling in his status as an intimate of George Bush, Dick Cheney and John McCain, and America's lone democratic ally in the Caucasus, Saakashvili thought he could get away with a lightning coup and present the world with a fait accompli.

American charges of Russian aggression ring hollow. Georgia started this fight -- Russia finished it. People who start wars don't get to decide how and when they end.

Are secessions and the dissolution of nations laudable only when they advance the agenda of the neocons

FBI Obstructs Justice: Uncovering the Anthrax Cover-Up

clipper's remarks: Who benefited most from the anthrax letters, that targeted very specific people in Congress (Democrats Leahy and Daschle) and Media (including Tom Brokaw and Robert Stevens)? Was it Bruce Ivins--really? The FBI claims his motive was profit from a vaccine to cure anthrax, but we see no evidence that he ever produced it. We do find more credible motive elsewhere, and that the FBI wants to close this investigation, based upon his "suicide", is an attempt to put him on trial in his death, and in his absence!

Never has there been a more flagrant public crime with more injustice in the investigation and "conclusion", nor more international and governmental actions as a consequence (i.e. wars and legislation), if this is it. The FBI is aiding and abetting a cover-up, which is obstruction of justice, which they were told to do from the beginning.

By laying all blame for the anthrax letters on the award-winning Ft. Detrick scientist Bruce Ivins it can only be said that the FBI is obstructing justice. In fact, they were pressured to do just that from the very start, from very high up in the chain of command. The FBI official story now, after seven years, is highly incredulous. For whoever was behind the anthrax letters, and its several very specific targets, did more to further the neoconservative propaganda for a "war on terrorism" against radical Islam, to justify war in Iraq and regime change in the middle east, and to coerce Congress into draconian anti-constitutional legislation than any other action, other than 9/11 itself. To suggest that Ivins did all this for monetary gain is contrary to Criminology 101 which seeks solid evidence for "motive, means, and opportunity".

Iran threatens to shut Gulf shipping lanes

Iran has warned it is ready to shut down the shipping lanes of the Gulf as it boasted of a new missile system designed to "prolong" war at sea.

Officials in Tehran said the country was not yet ready to accept the core requirement that its suspect research programme is abandoned.

In advance of the discussion Iran announced it had developed a "unique" new surface-to-ship missile with a range of 200 miles. General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) hinted the missile would boost Iran's defensive capabilities in the Gulf, the key oil artery where it regularly contests the dominance of the US Navy.

He warned that Iran was ready to force the closure of the Gulf, a development that would push oil prices to levels. He said: "The possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz easily and on an unlimited basis."

His friends and key scientists vehemently reject and refute the FBI's fingering him (in a desperate attempt to close the case).

That the anthrax letters (sent to only Democratic leaders in Congress, Daschle and Leahy) contained the words "Allah is great" also demonstrates this was a false flag action with clear intent to blame Arabs and "Islamic terrorists" to heighten the propaganda and fear campaign and coerce Congress to pass draconian legislation for the PATRIOT ACT, Homeland Security, and permit a definition less "war on terrorism" (all contrary to the Constitution) and cede all power to the Executive branch.

The motive appears clear by the anthrax letters form and content, and the effects upon the country, which are inconsistent with the alleged motive of this good standing scientist that was trusted until now.

Ivins and a small circle of fellow anthrax specialists at Fort Detrick's Army medical lab lived in a curious limbo: They served as occasional consultants for the FBI in the investigation of the deadly 2001 anthrax attacks, yet they were all potential suspects.

Yet, colleagues and friends of the vaccine specialist remained convinced that Ivins was innocent: They contended that he had neither the motive nor the means to create the fine, lethal powder that was sent by mail to news outlets and congressional offices in the late summer and fall of 2001. Mindful of previous FBI mistakes in fingering others in the case, many are deeply skeptical that the bureau has gotten it right this time.

"I really don't think he's the guy. I say to the FBI, 'Show me your evidence,' " said Jeffrey J. Adamovicz, former director of the bacteriology division at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases

Chertoff: European terrorists trying to enter US

WASHINGTON (AP) — European terrorists are trying to enter the United States with European Union passports, and there is no guarantee officials will catch them every time, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday.

Chertoff's comments on Capitol Hill comes as the country is entering a potentially vulnerable period with the presidential nominating conventions coming up next month; the presidential election in November; and the transition to a new administration in January — all of which may be attractive targets for terrorists.

"The terrorists are deliberately focusing on people who have legitimate Western European passports, who don't appear to have records as terrorists," Chertoff told lawmakers. Iran blames West for 'artificially' raising oil prices, says war threat is a 'joke'

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Iran's president again took aim at the West, blaming the U.S. and Europe for "artificially" raising oil prices and dismissing as "a funny joke" fears that his country could come under attack.

Hours later, on Wednesday, Iranian state television reported that Tehran had test-fired nine long- and medium-range missiles during war games. The report quoted officials as saying the tests are in response to U.S. and Israeli threats.

But President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on a visit to Malaysia, told a news conference Tuesday that the U.S. and Israel were "focusing on propaganda and psychological war."

The latest developments were in line with the mix of conciliatory and bellicose statements by Iranian officials in recent weeks about the possibility of a clash with the U.S. and Israel, which has been held partly responsible for driving up world oil prices and bringing down the dollar's value.

9/11 third tower mystery 'solved'

The final mystery of 9/11 will soon be solved, according to US experts investigating the collapse of the third tower at the World Trade Center.

The 47-storey third tower, known as Tower Seven, collapsed seven hours after the twin towers.

Investigators are expected to say ordinary fires on several different floors caused the collapse.

Conspiracy theorists have argued that the third tower was brought down in a controlled demolition.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology, based near Washington DC, is expected to conclude in its long-awaited report this month that ordinary fires caused the building to collapse.

However, a group of architects, engineers and scientists say the official explanation that fires caused the collapse is impossible. Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth argue there must have been a controlled demolition.

Iran: Any attack on our nuclear facility will be beginning of war

Tehran will consider any military action against its nuclear facilities as the beginning of a war, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported Friday.

The commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, General Mohammad Ali Jafari, was quoted as saying that any country that attacks Iran would regret doing so.

According to the report, Jafari has warned that such a step would be the beginning of war.

In a newspaper interview last week, Jafari warned that if attacked, Iran would barrage Israel with missiles and choke off the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a narrow outlet for oil tankers leaving the Persian Gulf.

Israel carried out a large military exercise last month, seen throughout the media as a rehearsal for an attack on Iran.

Meanwhile, a U.S. admiral warned earlier this week that Iran is likely to launch ballistic missiles against Israel and the United States and the NATO alliance should prepare for it.
