I like the new iPod touch but only 8 and 16GB?

The 160GB upgrade in the iPod Classic is cool but why not keep the older model for a price point in a hard drive model, which is likely why it isn’t gone, with little upgrade and make the iPod touch in both Flash and HD? I guess they want to keep something for a future release, perhaps something else before Christmas!

Don’t get me wrong about not liking anything the progress with the iPod Touch is great, WiFi store and Starbucks integration are cool, and it’s amazing that the WiFi store seams to be available in Canada on the launch, which I wasn’t expecting. Anyways that just my initial thoughts and I’ll probably have more to update later, but what so you think? Oh and you can now stream the announcement here.

Tags: apple, arstechnica, engaget, gizmodo, iphone, ipod, ipodclassic, ipodtouch, starbucks

<clipSource>http://deys.ca/</clipSource>

iPhone almost Unlocked

clipped by: billdeys
clipper's remarks: I'm almost temped to make the 2 hour drive and pick one up after reading this!

Clip Source: www.tuaw.com

Tada! Earlier today, I got my prepaid iPhone activated after a long struggle, which you can read about here, along with an easy solution. After all that, what time was it? I found that your activated iPhone is a lot more flexible and powerful than AT&T and Apple admit. Pop out the SIM or put an inactive SIM and your iPhone works pretty much like a contract-free WiFi-enabled 6th Generation iPod. The WiFi means you can do Mail and Safari without a phone connection.

Tags: iphone, ipod, unlocked

<clipSource>http://www.tuaw.com/2007/07/02/tada-the-6th-gen-contract-free-wifi-enabled-ipod/</clipSource>

Fast Switching OS X and Windows

clipped by: billdeys
clipper's remarks: I wonder just how fast the switching is. One feature that is definitely not-so-tiny is something I'll dub 'fast switching' between Mac OS X and your Boot Camp Windows installation. While this isn't quite the built-in virtualization that some users were hoping for, it will minimize the startup, shutdown and boot times when switching between the two OSes. Detailed on Boot Camp's new features page, Apple has hooked their safe sleep feature into Boot Camp to allow Mac OS X to save all your open applications and windows, and then boot over into Windows. Once you're done in Windows, you can boot back over to Mac OS X and pick up where you left off - with all your open applications and documents put right back where you left them.

Tags: windows, winxp, mac, osx, macosx, switch, bootcamp

<clipSource>http://www.tuaw.com/2007/06/11/leopards-boot-camp-brings-fast-switching-between-mac-os-x-and/</clipSource>

Will podcasters step up to help their own economy?

clipped by: billdeys
clipper's remarks: Podcasters need to read this article.

Clip Source: www.ericrice.com

When Joe and Jane Q. Public fire up the iTunes music store, they are presented with quite a bit of stuff to buy. Music. Videos. Movies. Games. TV Shows– many by individual content, and others by series (album). Everything but the lonely podcast.

I have my theories. One of which, is the harmful nature of an echo chamber. Ask a podcaster about paying for a podcast, and they might say ‘no’–check that, they might say ‘NO’. And herein lies the problem. The Chamber of Echoes.

Why?

In so many words, I was chatting it up with someone from Apple–someone who certainly sees the irony that yes, you can in fact, buy a lot of stuff at the iTunes store, both by episode or by series, a model very similar to how most podcasters release their content. I was told in no uncertain terms, that functionality to sell podcasts in the music store, might come to fruition if podcasters made a huge amount of noise.

Tags: ericrice, spin, podcast

<clipSource>http://www.ericrice.com/blog/?p=515</clipSource>

New Touch-Screen iPods

clipped by: billdeys
clipper's remarks: I almost due for an upgrade, I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Clip Source: www.looprumors.com

Touch-screen iPods Tuesday?
