Recently, I came up with a fun project that captures a moment in a child’s life, and creates a unique fashion statement. Here’s how to make a customized silhouette T-shirt that features your precious tots.

For this project, you’ll need:
1. A child who is willing to cooperate for photo taking
2. Digital Camera
3. Printer
4. Standard computer paper
She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she’d ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

“You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,” she said. “Thank you.”

I squeezed her hand, then walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life.

Tags: the small moments matter

<clipSource>http://www.zenmoments.org/the-cab-ride-ill-never-forget/</clipSource>

Obama soap

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: Does anyone else think he kind of looks like Gollum?

$20

Clip Source: www.etsy.com

Sculpted by David Chalat

An amazingly hefty 8 ounce bar o' soap!

Sculpted with tremendous respect for Barack Obama. different songbird species have been observed picking up
single ants or small groups and rubbing them on their
feathers. Less commonly, other songbirds "ant" by spreading
their wings and lying on an anthill, and squirming or
otherwise stimulating the ants to swarm up among their
         feathers.

The purpose of anting is not
well understood, but the most reasonable assumption seems to
be that it is a way of acquiring the defensive secretions of
ants primarily for their insecticidal, miticidal,
fungicidal, or bactericidal properties and, perhaps
secondarily, as a supplement to the bird's own preen oil.

Clip Source: birds.ecoport.org

Finally,
birds have also been observed to indulge in anting behaviour using objects
that are not ants such as mothballs and apple peel.

Birds
have also been seen to use smoking cigarette butts for anting. On other
occasions both houses and trees have been set alight by birds taking
live cigarettes back to their nests. No-one really knows why.

Tags: bird behavior

<clipSource>http://www.stanford.edu/group/stanfordbirds/text/essays/Anting.html</clipSource>

Safety Tattoos for kids

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: Great idea! Start
with 5 pounds
of tomatoes, either plum, or beefsteak, or yellow, or even cherry
tomatoes
if that's what you have in the garden

Cut the tomatoes in half
end-to-end, and place cut side up on a rimmed sheet pan. Chop 4 cloves
of
garlic, and sprinkle over the tomatoes. Strip several sprigs of fresh
thyme, and sprinkle the leaves over the tomatoes. Season with coarse
sea salt
and fresh ground black pepper. Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil liberally
over all of the tomatoes; you'll want to save the oil for use in your
cooking. Place in the oven for 10-12 hours*; the
tomatoes will collapse, but not completely dry out. Pack into small
ziploc bags or a
freezeable container, and pour the oil from the pan over the top.

		The concept behind

Translation Tees began one day when I watched my
one year-old son walk past me down the hallway, carrying his blanket
		and talking to himself.

Here was this tiny little person blowing past his daddy, tossing
his possesions around the house and talking out loud: "BOBBLE", "MUK",
"BAPPY", "MOMMY", "BONK!" Somehow, I translated this
to mean, "Hey Mom!, get me a bottle of milk, then I'd like my pacifier—OUCH!,
I just fell!" I realized then that he had let me connect with his world,
and I felt I needed to take a snap-shot of that moment.

Tags: she used to say tie-in-the-hole for tylenol

<clipSource>http://www.designmom.com/2008/09/i-heart-tees.html</clipSource>

Vintage Transfers for Embroidery

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: I'm looking to pick up a new skill this fall, since my kid started school. Just fill up a jar with water, place it on your child's nightstand, and have your child drop the tooth inside before bed. The next morning, the tooth is replaced with coins and the water is blue (food coloring). So much easier! Well, as long as the mouth of the jar is wide enough for your hand to reach inside and grab the tooth, and you don't overfill the jar with water, that could cause issues.

Last night I also sprinkled some silver glitter in the jar and that was a fun addition. And the presidential $1 coins make a great prize (like pirate booty).

Tags: tooth fairy, childhood, magic

<clipSource>http://lostbuttonstudio.blogspot.com/2008/06/tooth-fairy-jar.html</clipSource>

Periodic Table of Videos

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: Short videos about every element in the Periodic Table.

Go get some science, kids!

Clip Source: www.periodicvideos.com

Tables charting the chemical elements have been around since the 19th century - but this modern version has a short video about each one.

Tags: periodic table of elements, science

<clipSource>http://www.periodicvideos.com/</clipSource>

cupcake photos

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: from Bakerella

Clip Source: bakerella.blogspot.com

Tags: would cupcakes make me feel better?

<clipSource>http://bakerella.blogspot.com/2008/09/cupcakes-and-cameras.html</clipSource>

Colorstrology

clipped by: bignosemousie
clipper's remarks: See source to find out your personal color, based on your birthday.
