I have made cake balls several times now and next time I will have to try these cake pops and/or cupcake bites (no stick).

The blue cake is an amazing color.

Protect Your Kids Online Using Open DNS

The first thing you will want to do is sign up for a free account and download the OpenDNS Updater application. OpenDNS will automatically detect your IP address and will prompt you to create a name and download the Updater application.

After signing up go to your Dashboard where you can start creating rules for filtering, manage your administrator settings, and add additional networks. Basically your dashboard is where you will make all changes you need. If you ever get stuck or have questions they also have a cool support system which includes a knowledge base and user forum.

Lets take a look at filtering content.

This is an example of the detailed categories in the Low filter setting. This helps you choose what types of content you want blocked.

Here is a list of all the categories available to block through OpenDNS.

Mini caramel apples

1) Wash and peel a large, fairly tart apple.

Using a melon baller, extract balls of apple. A large apple will yield about 6 balls

Place in a bowl and sprinkle with lemon juice.

3) Carefully spear each ball of apple through the ROUND end. Keep the flat end on the bottom, so they stand upright. Using a paper towel, blot off the excess lemon juice. This is important- if the apple has too much juice left on it, the caramel won't stick.

4) Dip the apple in the caramel, using a twirling motion to coat it evenly.

5) Transfer the apple to the nuts and roll, using a gentler twirling motion.

6) Stand the apples upright in the cups and let them chill in the fridge to solidify. Cute and addictive!

Ice cream cupcakes

Start with cupcakes. I made mine mini cupcakes in a tiny muffin pan, making 2 bite ice cream cupcakes.

Spray the muffin tins with nonstick spray. Fill the muffin tins only half as full as you normally would. For the mini muffin tins, this means using a little less than a teaspoon of batter. For the regular muffin tins, this means using about 1 Tablespoon of batter. Bake cupcakes at 350 degrees F and check them after 8 minutes.

Remove the cupcakes from the oven, let cool in their tins for 15 minutes. Loosen the cupcakes by running a knife along the edges of the muffin cups.

keep the cupcakes in the cupcake pan, cover with plastic wrap and put in the freezer for 3 hours, or overnight is best.

When ice cream is softened, use a quick hand to spoon and flatten ice cream on top of the cake.

When all of the cakes are topped with ice cream, return to the freezer to harden. I left my ice cream cupcakes in the freezer over night, but give them at least 4 hours.

There are many people making and/or selling their own versions of felt birthday crowns; I imitated an illustration of a child wearing a crown on the cover of The Birthday Book for my design. I used plant-dyed 100% wool felt for the front, and plant-dyed wool-rayon blend felt for the lining (because the plant-dyed 100% wool pieces are not large enough for the entire lining). Using plant-dyed felt seemed very important to me for this project. Not only is it just lovely, special, earthy, and so appropriate for the spiritual significance of a birthday (a reminder of our connection to the earth, which is especially tangible in the moment of birth), but it is also thicker and stands up a bit better than a standard felt (even 100% wool) would.

How cute is this growth chart kit? It's a 4 foot long jute piece, mounted on wooden dowels and hung with a red ribbon. Twenty tags are included (ten in red, ten in manila) with space to mark your child's name, age, and date of measurement. The little muslin bag is full of large safety pins to attach the tags.

Once shaped, cover and return to freezer. (5-10 minutes)

While cupcake shapes are chilling, begin to heat up your chocolate bark.

Brown chocolate bark for the bottoms. Pink or white chocolate for the tops.

Take the cupcake shaped mixture and dip bottoms into the melted chocolate - just to the point where the mounded shape starts. Remove from chocolate, turn upside down and wiggle so that the excess starts to slide down slightly. Then lay on the wax paper upside down. If you want them to be lollipops, then go ahead and insert the lollipop sticks while the chocolate is still wet. Continue with rest of the cupcakes. You can also leave some without the sticks. They’re just as cute as Cupcake Bites.

Dry completely. (15-20 minutes)

TIP: Let the pink chocolate sit for a few minutes after heating to thicken. This will help it from dripping down the sides of the cupcake.

just turn right side up and rest on the wax paper. Then go ahead and put a m&m on the top and add sprinkles while wet.

I picked up a 6oz box of blue, yellow and red jello plus a box of knox gelatin. To get these fabulous layers, mix the blue jello with an envelope of the knox gelatin. Pour in two cups of boiling water. Dissolve the gelatin. Add 1/2 cup of ice. Stir until thick. Remove any remaining ice cubes and any bubbles that may have formed. Pour into a 9×13 inch pan. Let set in the refrigerator.

Repeat with the yellow jello and pour it over the set blue. Repeat with the red jello and pour it over the yellow. And there you have it, Rainbow Jello.

I won’t go into the whole primary and secondary color thing, but these colors, when stacked upon each other, create other colors. There is not an orange or green layer. It just looks like it when the red and yellow layers touch and then yellow and blue layers touch. Pretty cool.
