LATEST: A cleaner has been injured in one of several incidents involving small explosions in Christchurch this afternoon.

An explosion at the Christchurch Bus Exchange caused commuter chaos around the city.

It was the third incident in Christchurch this afternoon. The first was in the High Street Arcade and the other at Carlton Mill corner.

It was reported police are also investigating a fourth device found in the city.

Specialist Search Groups and a bomb dog are working to clear the Bus Exchange before it can be reopened.

At least 500 people were told to leave the building after the explosion at 3.15pm.

Police said the cleaner's hands were injured after there was a small explosion in a soft-drink type bottle.

A witness at the exchange said the incident happened in an office in the building.

The cleaner came out of the room and lay down and it appeared the man had lost his hearing, the witness said.

MOMENCE, Illinois (AP) -- A 5-year-old girl who was feared drowned with her grandfather on a boating trip startled searchers Friday when she emerged from the woods -- naked, scratched and holding raspberries.

Crews had pulled her grandfather's body from the Kankakee River in eastern Illinois just hours earlier.

"People were like, 'Who's that little girl? That can't be her, can it?"' Kankakee Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ken McCabe said. "I went up to her [and] asked, 'How you doing? What's your name?"'

TINY dachshund Jimmy Choo is a dad after mating with a huge ROTTWEILER.

Jimmy really scaled the heights of passion to get giant mutt Helga pregnant.

Owners Alan and Louise Crowshaw had assumed a male rottweiler called Romeo was responsible — but were stunned when Helga’s six pups looked just like 11-month-old Jimmy.

Alan, 29, of Fleetwood, Lancs, said: “We let Jimmy sleep with Helga as we thought it was impossible for them.

"Obviously he had other ideas.”

'Exxon reps' unveil human flesh fuel

Up to 300 oilmen at the GO-EXPO in Calgary, Canada witnessed an unusual presentation about turning human flesh into fuel by 'representatives of Exxon and the National Petroleum Council (NPC).'

The two 'representatives' turned out to be pranksters from the civil disobedience group The Yes Men.

Conference organisers billed the speech by a 'NPC rep' as a major highlight.

The Greensburg dogs and cats have been moved to a Pratt veterinary clinic, where they will be held until July 15.

If they are still unclaimed, Greensburg residents will have the first chance at adopting the animal survivors of the May 4 tornado.

For more information, call the Pratt County Humane Society at 620-672-6777.

Diann Rogers knew there was no way Bebe could have survived. She had called and called for her 9-year-old cat to come home the evening of May 4. The Rogerses lived across from the John Deere dealership in Greensburg.

SYDNEY (AFP) - A three-legged dog has saved an Australian family from their burning home, police said Friday.

The dog's persistent barking woke the family, allowing them to escape from a fire that destroyed their timber home in Dalby, a town west of Brisbane in Queensland state, police said.

They said the property's owner and her two children, aged four and two, escaped with their saviour Jack, a blue heeler-cross who lost his front left leg in a car accident five years ago.

A suspected burglar in Miami was found dangling from a large ventilation fan after he apparently stepped on the on switch while his body was inside the machine and killed himself, according to police.

Miami investigators said a "known burglar" in the area was found dead in the powerful fan at the Maranatha Used Clothing store Thursday when the store opened up for business.

A witness said an employee of the store noticed feet dangling from the fan and called police.

A WOMAN has miraculously survived for two nights trapped in the mangled wreckage of her car after it rolled on a Territory highway.

The 36-year-old is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel when her car ran off the Stuart Highway on Friday evening.

Her car ended up in scrubland 30m off the road, about 150km north of Tennant Creek.

She was not found until about 9.30am Sunday when passing tourists spotted the wreck.

Little Howard David Ludwig made headlines around the world today after it was revealed that he already has a 12-gauge shotgun.

Howard, known by his family as Bubba, was issued the firearm owner's identification card by the US state of Illinois after his father, Howard Senior, paid the $6 fee and filled out the application, not expecting to actually get one.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Several species of ducks have evolved complicated genitals in what appears to be an "arms race" between the sexes, researchers reported on Tuesday.

And females may be coming out ahead, said the team of biologists at Yale University in Connecticut and the University of Sheffield.

Their findings not only open a window into a little-studied area of biology, but could help shed light on how evolution works to help both males and females control their own breeding, the researchers said.
