The Starfucker comments because he thinks that in some way or another, you are superior to him. He is treating you like a mini-celebrity. He almost always says something nice, although it’s often tremendously bland and contributes nothing real to the conversation. There’s nothing wrong with that — it’s lovely for the ego — but when this commentor writes, “Amazing article, blah blah blah, I’ll definitely try to incorporate this into my own [blog, business, sex life]” you probably have a Starfucker on your hands.

The Worshipping Starfucker comments because he really, really likes you. He has probably read your archives back to your first entry. He loves everything you’ve ever read. He always thinks you’re right — sometimes because you really are, and sometimes just because you’re the one who wrote the piece. You can find these people by writing a completely asinine post and seeing who says nice things about it anyway.

Tell us about this design:
One day I stumbled upon a picture of Salvador, one of my favorite artists, and decided that for fun I would give it a little zombie flavor. The pic was just so eery and piercing. It started off as more of a personal exercise, and then I realized people dug it, and here it on teefury!

clipper's remarks: Today is Spoonflower.com's free swatch day! Who wouldn't love to get custom designed fabric? Now you can test it out at a great bargain. You only get two but it still is worth it. I ordered three and gave 5USD to Heifer International. Heifer International give livestock and such to families as a way to give them a way out of poverty. It is really super cool.

Spoonflower has also added a couple of new fabrics; organic cotton knit and bamboo-cotton poplin. I got a swatch of each of those and the third is the standard quilting weight.

Putting Our Crafty Community to Good Use: Heifer International

Spoonflower is still a tiny startup company, which means we don't yet have much in the way of extra cash that we can direct toward organizations that promote ideas we value like sustainability.

But we are wealthy in one sense -- we have access to a large, well networked community of amazing people who use our Web site (about 40,000 last time we counted). So we've decided to give everyone who takes advantage of Free Swatch Day on Spoonflower the option to take the $5 they would customarily have paid for a swatch and instead to make a donation to Heifer International, an organization that provides livestock, training and services to small farmers and communities around the world.

We'll report on the amount raised throughout the day on our Twitter feed

clipper's remarks: Mine is the purple spiral leopard pattern. As of right now, I'm totally bloody losing. Big surprise there! (sarcasm, well duh.) Winning is the so-very-not-great hedgie-somethingsomething pattern. Clearly, Smells_Fishy is the best pattern of the choices, and yet half the votes that the hedgie-nonsense has. What is wrong with most of these people voting?! I made my easily, without a lot of work, but Smells_Fishy obviously took some brains and yet it doesn't appear that it will win. I'm happy to say that I'm obviously out of touch with the people voting.

clipper's remarks: I attempted to crochet this in two colours. After an hour or two of wrangling I finally managed to get to the fifth and final round. That's when I realized I had completely screwed up! I haven't made a granny square before, and didn't realize that the corners aren't crocheted *into* the chain stitches but around. Oi! Will make another attempt tonight after trying my had at a traditional granny square.
