Which is to scientists, pretty much crazy talk. Like prove that I don’t have a goose that lays golden eggs. Basically a perpetual motion machine means free energy, or energy from nothing. This is a no go from a physics point of view, a God machine. They have sunk a lot of money into the Orbo, thats what they call their machine. Have they all kissed the Blarney Stone?

Now you have a legitimate excuse to dress up like your favorite Star Wars character. The Breathe Air bike helmet was developed by a university student in the UK to provide head protection to cyclists and act as an air filter. The helmet was created to help alleviate symptoms of asthma and hay fever by filtering out irritating particles.

So far, the helmet is just a concept, although the student is looking for a manufacturer. The target price is roughly $200. [More]

Kartik Madiraju- in a move that's at once innovative and reminscent of an era of innovation that seemed far behind us- has invented a new source of ecologically benign energy. In contrast to the complex sorts of experiments going on night and day at particle accelerators around the world, Madiraju, a 16-year old student from Montreal, happened across an amazingly simple way to generate electricity. His solution, with potential applications ranging from clean-running powerplants to micro-power sources for nanotechnologies?

Magnetic bacteria.

Madiraju has found a way to generate roughly half the power of a standard AA battery with about an ounce of the bacteria- which is commonly found in water- for 48 hours. The magnetotactic bacteria, which he learned about reading Nature, are placed free-floating into tiny plastic bottles with metal strips on the sides serving as electrodes, causing crystals of magnetite inside the bacteria to spin and generate a magnetic field and electrical current.

Tags: science, invention, energy

<clipSource>http://www.emergetrends.com/index.php?id=145</clipSource>

Tasty Toaster

clipped by: bidwell
clipper's remarks: Dummy-proof toast! No one has offered a viable alternative to the ubiquitous hook-and-loop closure in 50 years. But Duffy's "slidingly engaging fasteners" link up easily and silently, don't wear down over time, and support eight times the weight that the stuff on your jacket can with plastic straps that bind together through matching, interlocking grids of little hexagonal or triangular islands.
