In many women, hot flushes persist even in late post-menopausal years.

Hot flushes are among the most frequent complaints of women during the menopausal transition. In most women, hot flushes resolve within a few years of menopause, but some women report symptoms for many years after they cease to menstruate.

Researchers in America assessed the severity of hot flushes in 3167 post-menopausal women aged 67 years on average, who had attained menopause around 19 years back. These women were asked to fill out questionnaires that gave characteristics associated with hot flushes at the outset and after three years of follow-up. Initially, 375 (nearly 12 per cent) women reported bothersome hot flushes. Symptoms were seen more in women who had less education, had more recently entered menopause, had undergone hysterectomy, or had previously used oestrogen. However, the mechanisms underlying these relationships are still unclear.

Tags: health

<clipSource>http://www.doctorndtv.com/news/news.asp?id=3174</clipSource>

The fascinating facts (and common myths) about our brains

clipped by: bhai1
clipper's remarks: For details: Read the complete article.

Clip Source: www.dailymail.co.uk

Revealed: The fascinating facts (and common myths) about our brains

I've been planning to get around to writing it up it sooner or later, but later just never came.

Enough of that procrastination! Today is my 32nd birthday and roughly one year ago today, I wrote the following a few days after my 31st:

Every January people make New Year's Resolutions that they end up breaking. It was with that in mind that I spent a month trying to figure out what I wanted to do. Around that time I ran across both The Hacker's Diet and Jeff Sandquist's tale of weight loss and finally convinced myself to take it seriously.

I set a goal for myself to drop 30 pounds by my birthday.

Next installments:

It is a special type of health care service that provides

EPI provides education to a wide variety of people, including
other mental health professionals, schools, community agencies
                    and the general public.

The program is also committed to evaluation and research
in order to understand more about psychosis and to improve

Some of the more characteristic symptoms include confused thinking,

A psychotic episode commonly isolates the person from others and
impairs family and social relationships. Difficulties in school
and work performance arise and secondary problems such as unemployment,
substance abuse, depression, self harm or suicide and illegal behaviour
              can occur or intensify.

The experience of psychosis varies greatly from person to person
and individuals experiencing psychosis may have very different symptoms.

Education about psychosis is the best way to deal with the stigma.
Finding out what treatment is available, and how recovery is possible
can not only reduce some of the fear associated with psychosis,
but can also promote recovery by helping people anticipate and prepare
for what to expect from treatment and from themselves.

Tags: health tips

<clipSource>http://www.psychosissucks.ca/epi/whatmeans.cfm</clipSource>

Dementia: What Are the Common Signs?

clipped by: bhai1

Clip Source: familydoctor.org

Dementia: What Are the Common Signs?

What is dementia?

Dementia is a problem in the brain that makes it hard for a person to remember, learn and communicate. After a while, this makes it hard for the person to take care of himself or herself.

Dementia may also change a person's mood and personality. At first, memory loss and trouble thinking clearly may bother the person who has dementia. Later, disruptive behavior and other problems may start. The person who has dementia may not be aware of these problems.

More Information
